800-663-6175

I received a vm on my work line from 800-663-6175 with a reference # stating that my card was returned to them and they were looking to mail it back to me. When I called the representative he asked me for my last 4 digits of my social (which I provided) & then he asked me for my date of birth. I then told him that I did not feel comfortable giving that information out. He advised me to call the 800 # on the back of my card, which I did. The women I spoke to from Amx was NOT able to validate that the original call back # was a valid American Express #. She put a note on my accout, so I'm still not sure if it was valid or not.

OK: NOW, at 8AM on 7/22/10 we get this "TOLL FREE CALL" pre recording saying the same thing about our AMEX card...yeah? We have no such card! We HAD 1, but closed it immediately! Bet it's yet another phish & we will NOT go for their bait!

I had a voice mail also claiming to be AmEx with returned card and did not call back and will not based on the postings of everyone here.
| re 2010-02-22 14:50:53 Unknown |
exactly. said that my new gold card had been returned. Asked for my information. I hung up and called American Express and gave them the contact number of the fraudulent company.

Received call claiming to be American Express on behalf of someone I know and that card sent to me by that person has been returned and should call and refer to reference number. No card was sent.

Appears to be a scam of some sort, I called AMEX and my cards are fine.

Thanks for posting this. I got this call too and it did not seem right so I thought I'd check here. Can't someone go after these folks?

The voice message that was left for me was also reportedly from American Express. My name was not mentioned in the voice message. The voice message indicated that "Joyce Lagenni's (sp.?) renewal...small business card has been returned...call800-663-6175 to arrange remailing of the card...reference number 11100211."
Praise the Lord for the Internet!

I got a call from this number too and said my card was found. I laugh because I am just a newly resident here in US and don't have any card. Next when they call and asked my SSN# I will give the wrong # and info and let see what they feel:-)

They called saying my American Express card had been returned to them. Funny, I don't HAVE an AmEx card. Did a search on this number and voila! Never, ever give out your info to someone calling you, look up the number to see if it is legit and call them back.

We got a call from this operation too. Definitely a scam, and I'll bet that some of the postings here that show up with earlier dates (Rod, Allan, RJ...), saying that they'd found out it was the right number for AMEX, are just part of that scam. Very, very sneaky people!

They called me and claimed they were from American Express. They said they sent me a credit card that came back returned. They asked me for the year of my birth date and the last numbers of my social security number. I hesitated when I gave them the information. The last four digits of my social security number is useless without the other numbers. I will be calling my credit protection to verify this.

Rec'd a call from 800-663-6175 that sounded very legit, from the Amex "remail" department - about my green card having been returned. Got on the phone with an operator who asked for the last 4 digits of my SS#. I immed. hung up and called the # on my Amex. The Amex operator said there was no record of my card having been returned. This is obviously a phising scam. My card does not expire for 2 more yrs.

Received call stating American Express card was returned and needed to be resent. Let ref #. I don't have an American Express card.

Got a call from this number on my answering machine, computer-generated voice stated my name and that they had my AMEX card returned to them and said to call back with a reference number. I don't have an AMEX card, but I called anyways to tell them. The operator asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN, but I refused and told her why. She suggested that I contact AMEX customer service to make sure they had the correct person (she said I could find the number in the phone book!).
I called AMEX who did some searching for an account with my name (I may have had an account in college - long inactive). When nothing was found, I gave her the the original phone number and she cold not find any matches with any department internal to AMEX. Definitely a scam.

early morning call, very very bad.
| Rod 2008-12-09 13:32:51 Unknown |
Its a legitimate call. They called and left me a case # to call back with. I called main AMEX (# on my card), and they confirmed that my new card had been mailed to an old address, and they needed to confirm the proper shipping address. I smarted off to the woman, and said "well, you don't have any problem sending my bill every month!" She laughed and said that they have a different company/department who actually ships out the cards, and their database had not been updated.
This one is not a scam.

I called Amex and they said it's not in the directory. However, he had notes in my account that reflected the conversation I had when I called back the number, so I think it is legit. They didn't ask for my social, just wanted to confirm my address to remail a replacement card (mine expires soon).

I rec'd a message from 800-663-6175 claiming to be AMEX & my card had been returned, they gave a reference number. Being that they had my nickname, not my actual legal name, I was skeptical. I called the number on the back of my actual AMEX card. The real representative said that there is no such number for AMEX in their database. They have alerted FRAUD PREVENTION. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER - it is a scam.

So, I called American Express and they said I didn't any records under my name (I didn't give them my social even though I knew it was the legit AE). So I went and did a credit report on myself and low and behold, I DO have an American Express card started when the people at 1 800 663 6175 said... So either the people at this number have access to my credit report (which means they already have plenty of information to steal my identity...) or they are legit. I think it's a horrible way to do business, but I'm thinking they're legit. Regardless, never never never give out personal information over the phone and always triple check everything that doesn't feel right!

My parents got this call. My dad gave me the number and referance number. I was extremely skeptical but called anyway. It "sounded" legit, and all she asked for was my last 4 and my year of birth. I never had an American Express card however... I gave her my work address (as my new home address) and am going to see if my "card" shows up in the mail in a couple weeks or if this is all a bunch of shenanigans. I'll post here again if I find out definitively if it's a scam or legit.

I received a call from 800-663-6175 with a message that Am,erican Express attempted to send me my Optima renewal card, but it was returned. I immediately Googled 800-663-6175 and found the various comments about it being a scam number or a legitimate number. I am an Amex black card holder so I called my personal representative and she researched the entire situation at American Express. 800-663-6175 IS A LEGITIMATE NUMBER AT AMERICAN EXPRESS. Amex tried sending my renewal card to an old address that had not been updated in their system, but it was returned. That is why they called and left the message to call them back at 800-663-6175 with the reference number they provided. They will ask you to identify yourself and provide the last 4 digits of your SS number, but that's all they need to release any in formation about your situation. My reference number checked out with Amex directly and they confirmed that 800-663-6175 was the remail department, so you do not need to be concerned about this number or message. I hope this was helpful.

Received a voice mail from -- 800-663-6175 saying I had a small business card that has been returned and I thought it was a scam. I called the 800 number on my AMEX business card and low and behold, my card was returned and they forwarded me to the remail dept. I wouldn't call the number above directly, but it may be a legitimate message, so check it out on the regular 800 number on your card first.

I received a call from 1-800-663-6175, also claing to be an AMEX customer service. The whole thing sounded bogus, and also played the cheesy elevator music and a very unprofessional "customer service representative". They never asked for personel info, but I told them I never applied for an AMEX, and they switched gears and started back-peddling, that someone has my same name - but one letter is different - even though they called my house number. It is definately a scam!! Beware!!

A message was left on my home voice mail on 3-18-2008
They left their phone number 800-663-6175 and said an American Express card had been returned.
They left reference number 07102377
I called 800-663-6175 and Amanda answered
She asked for my name
She asked for my last 4 social security digits
She asked for my phone number
She asked for my full social security number
I freaked out thinking, "I just gave my social to the phone number they left me."
I looked up American Express numbers at http://www10.americanexpress.com/sif/cda/page/0,1641,24690,00.asp
I found 1-800-223-2670. I called it and the lady gave me this number, 800-528-4800 the customer service number.
I called 800-528-4800. Terry answered. She verified that the 800-663-6175 was an American Express phone number.
She said 800-663-6175 is a remail number for American Express.

This outfit does sound bogus, but I called 800 AXP 1000 (which is the official Amex number printed on my card, and they claimed this was from their "remail" unit.

I got a voice message from 1-800-663-6175. Their recording stated my card was returned, and I was given a reference number. I called AMEX and they had no information on my card replacement. They told me AMEX never give reference numbers. Then I called the above number and realized it is aways the same person answer the phone. Definitely a scam.

Received a call from 1-800-663-6175. Their recording accurately stated my name, and said my AMEX card was found. The automated voice gave the phone number and reference number. I logged into my AMEX account and all was fine. Then I found this site. Definitely a phishing scam.

received a call from 1-800-663-6175 claiming that my AMEX card got returned. They wanted to get my SS number and birthdate. I wised up and declined giving them the information.

Call with a bogus sounding operator, and cheezy elevator music. I was hoping to talk to a "representative", but was on hold for too long.
