This 1-800-669-6607 number is the original toll free number Countrywide Home Loans had for it's customer service years ago.  When BofA bought Countrywide, BofA retained this number for "one" of it's home loans servicing departments.  It appears that not only does this number not go to BofA's Customer Service, but BofA has setup a faux phone network to hide and disuade us home owners that were original Countrywide customer.  If you call that number, you will probably be diverted to BofA Debt Collector that handles the modified loans, and who have their own agenda.  I don't know who these people are, but their ultimate goal is to get you into modifying your loan (more charges, fees, wait times, trial periods, and other legalized scamming techniques) that will, over time, downgrade your credit worthiness, set you that much farther back in your mortgage payoff, and it makes them (whoever they are) more profit.   Also, note, hardly ever, never, ever will anyone call you from that number.  They have too many form letters and automatic emails to bother to call you.  It's not difficult for a 9th grade computer novice to purchase software that can emulate BofA's phone number, call you will scant information, then get you to reveal highly valuable data.  Tell them to send you the information in the mail, if they ask for your address---hang up!    Also, if your name is on the deed to your home, or you think your name is on the deed to your home, find out who receives your property or real estate tax payments (that's in cases where your mortgager is paying it for you) and verify you still own your home.  These scams have been successful in creditably changing homeowner to someone else, while you are still responsible for the mortgage----and you would never even know it.

i received a letter saying that i was 2800 dollars delinquent on my mortgage payment in 2008 when it was countrywide. i called this number and it seemed like a male teenager answered the phone. all he said when he answered was "home loans". i told him i had a letter from them wanting  to help stop foreclosure. he said "hold on". i hung up. this was not a professional greeting. i also remember seeing a reply from someone else saying that the letter head was in black and white and bank america's letterheads are in color. i agree with this. this is a scam so whoever reads this beware of scams especially if you are a senior citizen like i am. all they want is to take advantage of you

The person calling you is Bank of America. Most likely a missed payment reminder.

So this is my story.  I'm now in the 1 yr anniversary of a 4-mo Trial Mod Pmt Period.  My son happened to be there and he said a guy came to the door to verify if the people listed on the note lived there; that was it.  They left a crappy hand cut-out "hey I was here slip" with blanks for the "to:" "Date:" and "Ref:" to be filled out by them that weren't plus a phone number that I googled - which is why I'm talking to you.  It's just a crappy make-it-yourself piece of paper.  Fortunately my son was very evasive but honestly I don't know what to think.  Was it really BAC?  or one of those many fake/fraud offers you get for re-fi's or mod's.  Is this legit??

Had a visit from someone this morning who handed me a card with this phone #. Card stated that they were an independent contractor and that they were there to determine the occupancy of our home. Have never seen this before.

Had a visit this morning from a young lady, indicating that she wanted to verify if the house was occupied and that I would have to call 800-669-6607. Is this a real number.

Thanks,

Joe

I just received a call from this number.  When I answered no one said anything.  I checked the caller ID and called the number back.  Someone answered and said they did not call.  I checked the caller ID from a few days ago and the number was on there again.

I also received a letter in the mail with a Bank of America logo on the letter head. The logo is not in color for one which BofA would use color. there is a name on the letter with mine and it is not my wife. i called this number because it was on the letter. It had an account number on it which in entered in after the recording said it was not an account of theres. After that they wanted my SSN and Zip of my home which was on the letter with my address. I call BofA after I got to work and they had nothing on me or this account. This has to be a new scam phishing for information.

Watch out for those scammers from India pretending to be with Countrywide (which hasn't existed for nearly two years).  There is NO "Countrywide" brand anymore.  Anyone using this name is a scammer out to steal your identity.  I got a call today from this number but no message.  NO legitimate company would do business this way.  Whoever is using this number wants your social security number so that they can steal your home!

Caller ID recorded the call as NOT PROVIDED and the person wanted the last 4 digits of my social security. I told her I don't give out my social to anyone who calls me as I can't verify who she really is.

That really is the number for BAC Home Loans Servicing, LP. Unfortunately, people do lie and give out random phone numbers to avoid receiving collection calls from the bank.  That's probably why lots of people get calls from that number.

As a Countrywide employee, I have to say that sometimes the borrowers give us numbers that do not belong tothem . We stream through loans and send letters to the current customers that indeed have a loan with us and it is not our fault we are provided incorrect information.
