They do have direct access to your medical information because your healthplan or your employer plan (Insured or Self funded ) contracted with this company to handle their subrogation of claims. They will get an electronic feed from your health plan of certain trauma related codes that could be the direct cause of an accident. That starts the investigation process by this company. If it isn't work or accident related, tell them and they will close their file. But it is illegal in most states for your health insurance to pay accident related claims in which there is other primary insurance such as auto and/or workers compensation that should be billed first.

Trover Solutions (and other names) subrogation specialists investigate health insurance claims to see if their client has to pay your claim or find out if any other insurance can be held responsible so they don't have to pay. They look for things like did it happen at work, do you have any other insurance, etc. Yes, you need to answer questions as the contract you signed to obtain the health insurance has the clause in it where you will provide info when requested. It really irritates me the way they work, but it's supposed to help keep my premiums down. Last years insurance premiums 14K does not include life ins.

In general, this company works for many insurance companies, attempting to find additional information, i.e. secondary or even primary carriers to pay for medical services those hiring companies must pay. I have BCBS Texas and every claim is challenged. Yes, it's in your health insurance contract to give requested information to make sure the appropriate company pays for your care. I know it's irritating, but you contracted to allow this when you signed for the insurance. I did have a provider bill my BCBS when the claim was Work Comp. By complying, you help keep your premium costs down. But then, my health care premiums last year were 14 grand.

I just received a letter from Gibson & Sharpe about a past bill on my son which has been paid in full. If u think about it your Insurance provider should or would already have your personal information on u once you applied for insurance with there company.  If u try to call that number on that letter they are trying to sell you something. I truley believe this is a scam.

I received 3 letters as well. Signed Rebekah McGuire Dye saying they will report to my medical provider (which they had correct) that I " am not going to comply with your health plan obligation". Goes on to state I have a "contractual obligation" blah blah. So I clicked the website link and its pretty official looking but I'm not stupid. I'd NEVER voluntarily post my address and medical info ONLINE. I don't care who they are. Besides my "medical condition" they are so concerned about was the flu. How can you possibly pin that on anyone? If this was legitimate, they should know the "medical treatment".  SCAM.

Debt Collector
I also recieved a letter from them.   It had HUMANA on the paper in bold Letters and that was under my name.

I did not think that people could try to collect on Medical expences that are in the rears.

I do not owe any Credit  Cards or anything like that.   My credit score is way over 750.

I noticed this letter did NOT have the address of the attorney's.    It only had a phone number to contact them.     It also spoke of Trover Solutions.   (suppose to be a partner of Humana.)   I don't have Humana anymore!!!

The signature was from a S.S. Quaye

If you look even further it states that Humana is a Medicare Advantage organization and stand-alone prescription drug plan with a a Medicae contract.     All phone numbers on this entire letter are the same.     1-800-765-5247

BEWARE!!!!     This is not from Humana or Attorneys that represent them in solvingi medical information claims.     Humana takes care of it's own claims and if you wish to dispute something, a Humana consultant will call you personally, or you can file against Humana - It does not require Attorneys in any manner.

It is NOT legal to have a collection agency to collect on Medical charges.

Check your state law and you will find this.

Debt Collector
Seems debt collectors are getting hard up!  Rec'd same letter 09/04/12...sorry but when I call, I'm glad I read these post first.  I will not provide them with any info as they should already have it from Medical Provider.  What they fail to realize is that our disabled child in question passed in March 2012 & even though this is supposed to be from a date of service in January, 2012, I have found that the provider has problems with submitting to both insurance companies & has had this problem for a while as they are wanting over $6,000.00 for this same sweet child's hospitalization after he passed (keep in mind all was not done for him to prevent death & they gave him a hospital born infection that ultimately took his life we feel) and they did not even submit it to the secondary provider.  It is heart breaking because of the circumstances we are dealing with currently...sadness still very apparent, but to use "This firm represents Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) and Healthcare Recoveries..." is appearing to be false & misleading to say the least!  One thing I have done all along is contact any debt collector when I receive their letters, but now with mergers & buyouts in corporate america along with the economy the way it is, who's to say how LOW these entities will go!  I have even called the number listed & their hours of operation are not even correct on their appearing false &/or misleading letterhead & be aware if you go to their online site...all they want is to know if you have an Attorney, is this an accident, etc...(phishing for more of your finances) AND WANT YOUR PHONE NUMBER!  I guess debt collectors are attempting to make themselves more important than they really are.  Don't they realize if people forgot due to multiple circumstances (ie disabled child, child death, etc...) & had the money that they will pay it & if they do not have the money due to economy/hardship that there is nothing else the people who receive these letters can do but my guess is...THEY JUST DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't worry about it. This is a subrogation firm looking for secondary payers. I received the same letter last summer following my accident and hospitalization. I wrote across it in big letters: "NO INSURANCE OR SECONDARY PAYERS" and mailed it back. I never heard from them again.

Received a letter. I. recall what treatment I received as it was my annual physical in June 2010. I agree if the insurance company wasn' covering anything I should have known by now! I'm going to call my insurance company in the morning. I received a similar letter a few years back and ignored it and nothing came of it. I check with BCBS of I'LL if I question if anything is covered. I was more than grateful to find this site!

One of the tricks of the trade in a collection agency is to seem like you are more than who you are.  I suspect that Gibson & Sharps aren't attorneys and that they are violating the spirit of the HIPPA law by implying or suggesting that they know anything about your medical information.  Also, this may be construed as "phishing" for information.  I'm going to an attorney.  I want to have a nice fat $10K settlement from them for suggesting they have access to my private medical information.  That they do not state the specific matter in question is even more ammo for my attorney.  So - I suggest everyone go out there and find an attorney and go after them now.

I didn't receive a call from these people, but I have received two letters from this so called Healthcare Recoveriers.  I misplaced the first one and received the second one today saying this is the second request for a claim and to call them immediately at 1 800 696 4573.  The are saying that It is very important that I contact them because they need information regarding treatment I had done 3 months ago at a chiropracters office.  The letter goes on to state that it doesn't matter where or how the injury or illness occured, they just need to know about it.  It is also signed (computer font signature) by a Cheri A Hall, stating she is the Manager of the Customer Service Department.  The bottom of the letter says that all inquiries made by them on behalf of BCBS are in full compliance with HIPAA.  The letter seems legit, but three things made me wonder about it. 1- The letter doesn't exactly say WHY they need me to call. 2- I've never heard of these people... if BCBS needs my info, shouldn't they contact me? (They don't have a problem contacting me over anything else) and 3- There was nothing saying what would happen if I didn't call. Like, your claim may be denied if we do not hear from you.. no threats in other words. Like I said, the letter seems very professional, but I am very busy and I refuse to waste time by calling people that I am not obligated to call.. Does anyone know if I should call these people back?  From what I am reading, I'm thinking.... NO WAY.

FYI- I did seem to find some more information.  Seems they are a company hired by BCBS to look into claims.  They are trying to find out if someone else is responsible to pay for the inury (Since I went to the Chiropracter, they want to know if I was in a car wreck so they can get the other party to pay, OR find out if I am going due to a preexisting condition so they do not have to pay). I believe I have paid this ins company enough money that they can cover my chiropractic costs.  Not that it is any of their business, but I'm just going for my own wellbeing, not due to any injury or preexisting condition.

Anyways, hope this helps someone.  I had some trouble finding any info about this company.
