While E-fix may do some legitimate "fixes".................I truly hate to accuse someone of nefarious motives, but.......................in our case, they came to us. Unsolicited. First in a pop-up, and then in a phone call. I have no idea how Efix knew how to contact us. I guarantee you my dad never, ever, ever would have taken the trouble to google for a pc fix. Not when he has me a few hundred feet away to do whatever..............

I do know I had not once, not twice or thrice...............but restored his computer to factory condition "FOUR TIMES" during this time period!!!!!, then did all the various windows, driver, what not updates...............to bring his pc back to a happy good place. Only to have someone from e-fix contact him (because he was resetting passwords per my instructions) and conning him into tunneling into our network to fix a pc that "DIDN"T NEED FIXING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I would like to know how they knew to contact him? And............How they were able to put a pop up (cookie) on his screen.....................also find the family phone# and call??????

He is a facebook bingo playing nut. Perhaps he's left too much information open to people who want to charge him money to fix his newly fixed computer. Except said computer needs to be "refixed" after they're allowed to tunnel in and find (or more probably create) prior nonexistent problems. He didn't need a fix!!!!!!!! Why/how did they call us?????

This still really tee's me to no end. Especially reading that it's elderly people preyed on. I work for the library system. My job is to educate and help people. One of those things being to help our patron's use and get comfortable with computers. I spend so much time assuring and reassuring people, especially the elderly, that "you're not going to break it!!!". It's ok to experiment and seek, learn and search. I've told my parents and many patron's. The worst thing that can happen is you might have to restore your pc to factory default. And that is so rare..............You have to really mess things up to need to do a restore. That's the worst case scenario. One I did 4 times for dad. Only to have these yahoos come in and do whatever.

By the way, it's easy to restore. You'll find the file in your menu. Be sure to back up pics and emails. You don't need efix to do this. They may cause the need.................as in our case, but really, you can do it. Just follow the directions on screen. Depending on the age of the computer after a restore you will probably have bundles of updates. You're going back to the date the computer was put together............................a lot of restarts (some updates need a restart to "take") and patience. Mainly checking the screen from time to time to follow the next step.

Most of these posts are from older people or concerned family members. To prey on this portion of our population's insecurities is just damned creepy.

I was raised to respect and revere my elders. Granted some need to be vetted, but please................don't victimize and prey on them. There are a lot better, more honorable ways to make a living in this world. Hurting others shouldn't be one of them.

Remember.............Instant Karma's gonna get you!!!!!!!

Is there any reason your father didn't mention his lack of access to email? There are cases where email addresses are unrecoverable. In such cases, we offer to create a new email account. If this is declined, we will return the money paid for the email recover, $50.
These processes are policy, there's nothing in it for the technician to refund or not refund in this circumstance.
A large part of our clientele is elderly, but this is due to their common trait of being less educated with computers than average. We bill all clients the same for the services provided, and I'm proud to say we do a better job than most other technicians, usually with more convenience and less cost.
Try Best Buy sometime if you disagree with my last statement. I doubt you'll get out of there for anything less than $250.

Most likely your father had a piece of spyware that gave him a homepage that made it difficult to navigate anywhere he wished. When one has spyware on a computer, it's a good idea to reset the email password, as these programs can read everything you type, such as an email password. Leaving the email as it was and cleaning the computer would have been a security risk.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this issue reoccurred on the computer in question after you fixed it. Removing spyware is remarkably difficult unless you're highly computer literate. If you're qualified to work on his computer, I always strongly recommend family or friends perform services rather than a paid company, but this is sadly not often possible.
We do not charge by the minute. Some support companies do charge by the hour, but we only charge for the services we render.
Though your father was not a client of mine, I am pleased that you were able to correct the problem.

We presented her an invoice for services. We performed those services. We did so for a reasonable fee, as this sort of work takes on average 4-6 hours to complete.

You were not around to do the work for her. We were.

We never claim to be with any other tech company. Our greeting in our calls state EFixNow, and there are disclaimers all over our site in not-so-fine print that we are a third party company. We have no interest in making an email inaccessible. If we are unable to perform the services promised, we most often void the charge upon speaking with the customer. You say: "This company probably preys on a lot folks who aren't tech-savvy."
By that logic, mechanics prey on auto-owners who aren't mechanically inclined.
Plumbers prey on homeowners that don't know about piping.
Additionally, we never seek to create opportunities for our customers to return to us for service. We do everything in our power to correct the issues we find, then protect the computer to prevent the issues from occurring as much as possible. If the client is open to education, we will happily show them how to use common security tools to prevent issues in the future. I urge any skeptics to compare our work with a big box like Best Buy or Staples. You'll find us less expensive, more convenient, and more comprehensive in the work completed.

I do work for efixnow. I'd never work for any company that seeks to mislead and defraud anyone. We simply provide a service for a reasonable cost.
The services we provide are remarkably easy to perform for folks that have a lot of computer experience, just as Jiffy Lube provides services that are easy to perform, but their customers cannot or will not do these services themselves for whatever reason. We have knowledge our customers do not. This is the same reason you'd pay a plumber to work for you.

I work for this company. Part of our process is calling the customer when the work is done. We will attempt to do this numerous times. We also do not bill taxes. I'm not sure why you were having problems with our 800 number, I do know for a short time we were having issues with our phone contractor, but this issue was not ongoing for long. The number is up and working now.

I clicked on a link that was available when I couldn't log into my email. A technician called to assist me. She asked various question and then she connected to my computer. It was really neat to watch her work my computer from Utah. She did a diagnosis on the computer and found my problem. I was impressed she told me all the bad things going on as well as the good things. I was charged according to my computer needs. I felt very comfortable with this company helping me. I felt they only charged me for what I needed without adding extra work or software to increase the cost. I will defiantly use them in the future. I gave their number to my neighbor. She was charged slightly more than me because her computer was in worse shape than mine. She also was very pleased with her service.

Before you jump to conclusions about a site like this, you might want to take a minute to do some research. These rates are from GeekSquad. Taken straight from their site. Its the same battle. The only difference is Efixnow.com does it from your home. Take note to what email troubleshooting cost. Take not to basic virus and spyware removal. Honestly most of you know that they would rather just charger you 100$ to wipe your computer and let you get it screwed up again. You pay for what you cannot provide yourselves. If your such computer experts and make the fixes for your family members or yourself. Then leave them your number, tell them to call you. You remote in, you fix it. Stop complaining. You werent there to help, we were.

I believe many computer repair technicians have ideas about what the geek squad charge for computer repair services or are unsure. I created this simple table which shows what services they do, and charge for. Everything is taken directly from their website.

Some services are missing like DC-Jack repairs, laptop LCD repairs, motherboard replacements and OS re-installs. I think many of the advanced repairs the geek squad scares off the repair by telling the customer that the computer repair is not worth the fix and up sells a new laptop or desktop.

This company can do some good but they like to pray on the elderly and unsuspecting. My father (81 yrs old) was a victim. He called his ISP (local cable company) to get email setup. I assume they put these vultures on to him and they called offering to help with that. Still no email and $200 poorer. I am fighting the battle for him now.

Additional note: Efix Now has a laughable slick scam website. Efix lists several common PC problems they'll be all to happy to "fix" for OVER $50---AND UP.

What Efix doesn't want you to know is: That same long list of problems can be fixed FOR FREE, by going to www.piriform.com and download / install their one click easy to use program, Crap Cleaner!!

There are NO STRINGS ATTACHED to this advice.

And you can also visit www.suggest-a-fix.com to get FREE answers to other computer problems FOR FREE--NO MONEY ASKED FOR!!

Efix Now indeed IS a scam outfit---think of it as a college for con artists.  Their defense in court? It's NOT against the law to operate a badly run company!!  THAT's how they manage to wriggle out of Civil Court---and they have a politician ( or two ) in their pocket ( that's how they get supplied with phone list "hot sheets" ).

The general rule of thumb: If they hang up on your answering service, they're NOT legit......however......

Unlike your usual schmoo con artist outfit, Efix WILL record a slick worded message on your answering service---using YOUR NAME they got off their phone list "hot sheet"!!  They pray you're someone near senile--or one not tech savvy and easy to double talk to---and have the cash they seek.

Your best way to shut down these crooks:  NEVER take their call.....EVER.

I did get a call from a guy from the 1-800 704 8416 number and now am worried. Efix did fix my computer but left it in safe mode. I could not use it for anything this way. I called back 1-801-878-8338 and the guy took it out of safe mode and I was apprehensive with his needing to work more on it. I believe I have been maybe scammed, but I did pay $150 on credit card. It has gone thru. Am I ok? Was the second number legit???

I work for EFixnow.com  I probably got some commission from you! Ha its a sales job dumbasses you are supposed to sell to everyone to make yourself and the company money. It is not a scam. We explain what we are doing and what the client is paying for. If they choose to put in their credit card number they know what they are paying for and we do exactly what we say we will. No one is forcing anyone to put in their card number.

I have spent nearly 2weeks, every minute I'm awake and not at work, trying to fix my father's computer since calling the phone number that was listed on a pop up after resetting his email passwork.
Funny thing, I had just restored his computer. We had just completed doing all of his window's and norton's updates. His computer was fine.
After the gentleman Randy, aka Moonbeam (his user name listed in the ok'd users on his account) tunneled into his computer, wanting 200. 00 to fix it, I couldn't even access Windows updates, let alone uninstall or update norton's. After 4 computer restores.....2 which were complete hardrive formats, when he went to reset his password (per my suggestion) for his email he got a phone call. He thought it was our ISP provider calling back. No...it was someone wanting 149.5  to fix his computer. He'd noticed dad had been having problems with his email password.
Arghhhhh Dad let him tunnel in thinking he was from Century link. I've been on the phone w/Norton's 3 hours trying to clean his computer once again.
I don't know how this company is contacting people. The second # I found, after nothing appearing on our caller ID, had to call *69, sent me to a message stating they were the "Do not Call" office. They wanted the number that called and our phone #.
I know we didn't call the Do not Call registry today. I didn't give them the information. Efix doesn't announce themselves when I call and get their message. Randy doesn't answer my voicemessages.
I just lost nearly 2 weeks of my life and lord knows how much personal information to these people, depending on how savy they are and how far they've tunnelled into our home network. I'm mad.

To: Edward Smith top of this page, the phone number you have 1 800 704-8416 is a working & correct number. Stop your cursing & grow up. I had my PC serviced by them, have called them back a few times, 1st. call problem repaired.  2nd call back I missed my return call yesterday. Placed a call today & waiting for a call back.  I live in Hamilton Ontario Canada & realize call backs are difficult as it is a very busy company. Patience is a virtue, fly off the handle & I also would be finished with the likes of you. P.S I am a senior citizen does that make us all stupid. There are time is your life that you just have to trust someone, I just have one minor problem for my tech to fix, hopefully soon. Helen Roberts Hamilton Ontario Canada.

first off, I have gone to Walmart to look at televisions, and guess what the person helping me did not try to sell me a 1,000 dollar television.  There are ethical sales people out there.  And most people do not pay for their email.  You are telling me that it is ethical to charge someone 100 to 200 dollars to get into their email.  Are you kidding me???????  I asked my mother what was done to her computer and she couldn't tell me.  Your right, my mother called you because she is old and confused.  You did her no favors. This company takes advantage of people.  It is a scam.  I am still waiting for that detailed log of what you did on her computer.  If it didn't cost her so much, it would be a good laugh!  She does not come on here to write you because she does not understand message boards and things like that.  You took advantage of mother and she is no more knowledgeable about her computer than she was before she called you.  If it makes you feel good to think you are actually providing a service using free scanning software and push a few buttons, then you have no conscience.

This company preys on people who are old!  My mother in her late 70s thought she was talking to Yahoo. There was nothing wrong with her computer!  I guess they did a few scans and whatever.  Stay away from this company.  I told them to send me a detail report of what was done on her computer and a message was left with me that it was emailed.  I do not have any such email.  This company should be reported which I plan to do.  Who in the world charges 200 dollars to scan a computer.  They should not be able to get away with this.  There needs to be an investigation and I plan to find a way to get that done.

Total scam!!! When my dad had trouble accessing his free email account he was led to efixnow. He gave one of the techs remote access to his computer and the tech led him to believe that he had a major issue with his internet and email. The tech wanted $200 to fix my dads computer when all it was was basically a shortcut error. Now some may comment that if he needed help then what is the problem?? The problem is that it is way to easy to take money from the elderly and "computer illiterate". It took me 2 minutes to fix the problem!!! Thank goodness my dad did not give out his credit card info!!  I was not aware that computer techs charged $100 per minute!!

I personally, work for this company. I am hiding my name because I don't know if we are allowed to post about our company. We are a fairly new company, so I understand why people think we are a scam, Honestly, I am a very honest and kind person. Yes there are times where the sales people that work with us ( I am a technician ) don't know what they are talking about, they are sales people, go figure. ( you don't say a car dealership is a scam because they ripped you off, they are there to make money, so are we. ) A lot of people we deal with do not know a thing about computers. What we do, if the computer needs it or not, is give people the tools and knowledge to keeping their computers clean and safe for the future, unlike other companies, who just clean the computers and wait for people to come back when they screw it up again. We strive to teach people how to keep their computers running as best as possible. Yes, some computers are just bad computers, old, low hard drive memory, and low ram, so I can see how people would say we did nothing when really it is just their computer and/or internet.     And the only way we get peoples number, is because they went on our website, filled out their information, and submitted it to have us call them.   And if you say we pick on the elderly..... Well, we are a business, we don't just ask how old that person is, or say they sound too old to have a credit card and turn them down.  See how saying we are doing something wrong, just doesn't make sense?  That would be like your parents or grandparents going to the store and wanting to buy something, but the store turns them down because the person looks too irresponsible to use a credit card... They are responsible enough to have a credit card, right? Any business would not turn someone down if they are willing to pay.   See where I am getting at here?   Go to Walmart and ask for a LCD flat screen priced at $1000.00 and they will sell you one.  My point being, I work on about 10 computers a day, out of a 2 to 3 week period, I may get 1 person that is unhappy, ( most of those are because they didn't understand something, or a fault on my part which I do fix in front of them ) and mostly the rest of the others it is because of email, not the work on the computer, and out of those 99.99%  it is because they signed up for a paid email and closed the email account because they did not want to pay the email provider anymore. So.. the email provider it that case will close the email account, permanently. There is nothing, anyone can do at that point, even if the customer wants to pay the email provider again.   So, do not say we are a scam, we do a lot better job than most companies out there, I will spend hours of my time to help someone who does not understand, and it makes me feel good when people tell me they are so thankful for my patients and helping them make everything so much simpler.

People who do not know anything about computer should not talk about computers. Your grandpa obviously needed help with his computer or he would not have asked for the helpin the first place and HE put HIS credit card information in to pay for it. If you want to talk about scams and being ripped off why don't you identify who you are or who he is? as far as I know there is nobody named "Me". I was locked out of my email for over 3 months and the tech who helped me was very smart and got me back into my email when yahoo just sent my call to India. I was thankful for the help and that I was helped by someone from the united states. If your grandpa was so ripped off why didn't he post on here? Speak for yourself...
