So I tried calling the number back and the only way to get off the list is to call back during business hours and talk to one of there reps.  I'm not going to bother doing that because I don't want to sit on hold and then have to listen to them try and pressure me into donating, at this point I think it is easier to simply ignore their calls.

This number has called me twice today, I did not answer both times as I usually ignore 800 numbers.  I'm going to call it back later tonight and see if there is a way to get taken off of their list.
This is a FRAUD!!!

I live in York Region and the male caller was being chummy with me, after nearly a minute identified himself trying to get donations for the local police force.

Reading the above posts, this is obviously some scan from outside the city and they only misrepresent themselves calling on behalf of the local police.   Totally disgusted on these people behaving in this manner that will ultimately impact legitimate charities.

Fraud!  Fraud!  Fraud!

same here.. I was getting this call for over a month and daily.. its annoying. Earlier I never pick up thinking it might be from xyzss.. but few days back I heard the call and he introduced himself from Toronto Police Asso.. I little bit scared and asked him again to repeat.... Then he asked me to give support. I asked the website address from where I will dontate. But he didnt give any info. He kept on asking me to donate now. I found fishy and told him not to call me back again. But getting the same calls .. Thanks for these post..

I continually receive calls from this number asking for support. Reading through these posts, I saw this number listed on the 'NOW' website. 'NOW' says that this is the Metropolitan Toronto Police Association Charities located at 180 Yorkland Blvd. in Toronto.

After Googling "toronto police yorkland station" I found that it was in fact 'Metropolitan Toronto Police Pensioners Association'. I tried calling their number (416) 495-7091 to try to get to the root of the problem but only got a pitiful excuse of a voice message.

I hope someone else has better luck and will check back to see if anyone does? I'm sure I haven't heard the last of these people...

Those bothered by this number should call the Toronto Police Association immediately and log a compliant. Edward Costa is currently the Director of Civilian Field Services so call and leave a message to his assistant (or directly line if you can get transfer to it). The switchboard is 416-491-4301. Try to get a name or operating number from anyone who calls you, especially if they say anything inappropriate. (One person told me when they refused to give info about their place of work they implied that was because it was a bad business). Really inappropriate. Personally I think anyone with law enforcement should not be collecting money; conflict of interest and all. Only way it stops is if we call directly to the people in chrage and say "stop".

They have been calling my home for a few days now.
When I pick up and say hello, I hear a bit of static (like the sound when someone is on the other line) and then it's quiet.  (I never say hello twice, as that usually prompts a real person to answer)

Nothing shows up on the call display except for the phone #.

a man from the same # called asking for donation for police officers to take children to Wonderland on July 2, 2008.

It was just odd how he was calling. He gave me address 253 College Street(Bay and Bloor area) but why Bay and Bloor? when it's College and Bay area.
He just didn't make things clear and had heavy Southern accent.. doesn't it make sense??

Interesting...I had a call where they asked for Maria and I replied there is nobody here by that name.  The guy responded, "oh really?" then quickly said "good bye"

I called the number back and it identifies themselves as the Toronto Police and that they apologize for the calling inconvience.
