This number calls with an automated message 'from the fraud detection something for something' looking for a person I've never heard of, 10 times a f***ing day. There is no way to get through the prompts to tell them this person doesn't exist and stop these ridiculous robo-calls.

This automated msg from the fraud detection requests me to punch in my home phone number because they detected possible fraud on my account.  They even knew my last 4 of my credit card. I called my bank USAA immediatley.

I received a call from this number and immediately checked my USAA web account.  My account was tagged with a message to call a different 1-800 number.  Someone had attempted to place a $827 fraudulent charge to a direct marketing company.  Apparently, USAA recognized the company as a source of fraudulent charges and blocked it.

I received calls twice from this number in one night and after looking at several online sites, found people claiming it was either a phishing scam or was USAA's fraud department.  I called USAA (800-532-USAA) and found out that in this case it was indeed their fraud department.  Although there were no fraudulent purchases, my after-Christmas spending spree had triggered the alert and was quickly able to resolve the issue.

That said, you should always call the USAA number and not respond to any automated (or live) call requesting personal information you receive from the 800-720-7359 number (or any other number for that matter.)  Take 5 minutes and google "caller ID spoofing".  It's not uncommon for those phishing for information to spoof legitimate numbers so that the caller can appear to be from a legitimate company.  So in short, although the call I received was legitimate, that does NOT mean that everyone receiving a call which appears to be from this number is also legitimate.

Yup...legit call. I missed it the call, but logged on to their website, clicked on my credit card, and a similar message popped up that said my card had been flagged for a security reason. It provided a number to call, which I did. My card was being charged by two different companies overseas that I had obviously never heard of. The card has been canceled and a replacement is on the way. Kudos to USAA for bringing it to my attention!

Some of you that say it's a fraudulent number...when you call the number on the back of the card, you get a customer service rep who probably knows very little about what's going on in the fraud department. Much of the fraud detection is automated to begin with, so there's a good chance that the human being on the other end isn't aware of what's happening until you call. Do what I did....log in to the website, and review the charges. If they're all legit, then you are probably traveling or using your card for something you don't usually use it for. So, call them and let them know what's going on. In my case, someone in England was buying porn with my card the same time I was using it to put gas in my car.

800-720-7359 shows "TOLL FREE" on the Caller ID screen.  It is a recorded message claiming to be from USAA credit card bank.  I called USAA at the number on the back of my credit card, and they said there are no problems or questions regarding my credit card.  They took down the toll-free number above, and agreed to file a phishing caution report about this number.  DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK or give them any of the information they are asking for.  Call USAA at the number on the back of your credit card if you want to reassure yourself that there are no problems with your account.  You may also want to file a phishing complaint with FTC.gov or fill out a complaint form at DoNotCallRegistry.com.

The above number is USAA fraud protection.  I called the number off the back of my credit card and had them verify the number off the crappy voice recording.  They shut down my CC because someone other then myself charged $3700 at 0300 while I was sleeping.  Good job on their part, but why can't you find anything about this number on their website.  Makes one nervous to call it back.

Message claimed USAA credit card fraud dept.  It included the last 4 of card number and the full names of both card holders.  I checked my acct on usaa.com and saw a few transactions that could be interpreted as suspicious - multiple charges in the same day from multiple vendors (but were legit).  Then called the 1800 to confirm.  Conveniently got a usaa.com survey when exiting website and gave feedback that doing this should be possible online or AT LEAST pop up an alter saying that the fraud dept was trying to contact me to give me a better feeling about the random number.

Got a message on my answering machine regarding possible unauthorized charges and was suspicious.  I checked my account online and didn't find anything anauthorized so I called the number listed on the USAA website for lost/stolen cards.  The rep I spoke with said that 800-720-7359 is USAA. He transferred me to it and I had to verify the last four transactions on the automated system -- if I hadn't gone through that process the rep told me my card might have been suspended so it's good that I didn't ignore the message.

Yep.  Called Usaa main banking and they transferred me to fraud alert.  They cleared up a few things.  Let's see if I still get automated calls.  Hopefully not.

I just got the call and called the main usaa number(800-531-2265).  They confirmed it is a legitimate from usaa.  The fraud department told me that since the call is generated by their automated system I needed to respond to the call through the automated system or it would continue to call me.  For some reason the usaa rep couldn't just confirm my information for me over the phone as they usually do.

I have been given 3 USAA credit card numbers ending in 3221, 4818, and 2317 to be used to purchase over $8000 of my stuff. I ran $4200 on one card and got suspicious and called USAA. They told me the numbers were good but the name did not match.  I asked them to call the owners of the cards to advise them of the ID theft but they said it was not their policy.  Go figure.
I hope none of you own these cards. I can be reached at 800/474-8243.

This is Scott again. I decided to go ahead and call USAA Credit Card and it was them who made the call the two recorded calls. They wanted to verify five or more of my last purchased. They said it was a security check. They just wanted to make sure it was me making the charges. I asked them why and they implied that my name was pulled out of the hat. I don't really believe this. Apparently something raised some flags, because my card was suspended until I verified the charges. I took the opportunity to tell them that the method and sound of their recorded message reeked of spam and phish.

The call from this phone number is from USAA Fraud division. I was not available to answer the call when it came in but after checking this site and seeing that people were saying it was from Usaa Fraud Division I got online to check my CC account and I could not believe the charges and pending charges that were not mine.

I strongly recommend if you get a call from this number to get online to check your USAA accounts and if you have unauthorized charges have them switch you over to the Fraud department!

This is legitimate.  It's USAA's fraud division.  I've been doing a lot of travel lately by car.  I've had gas fill-ups all up and down the eastern coast... apparently this is what triggered their calls.  Didn't appreciate how early in the morning they called but that's a different matter...

I received a call from 1-800-720-7359, but did not answer it.  Being suspicious I Googled it and found this message board.  I immediately called USAA and sure enough, there was a fraudulent charge on my card.  I cancelled the card immediately.  If you get a call from this number, call USAA to ensure your card number has not been compromised.

Yes it's a legit number from USAA credit card fraud division. As soon as your card is locked out the computer generates a call to your phone number on record notifying you of the problem. I my case someone from New York (big surprise...) tried to purchase a Apple computer. I'm not even an Apple guy. So if this automated voice is left on your answering machine it would be wise to give USAA a call. It might save you some money.

I received such a call and with a recording about possible recent activity of fraud on my USAA credit card. I too was skeptical but called the number to check it out and an automated voice asked me to verify my recent purchases. Sensing this could be a scam, I hung up and decided to call USAA directly and find out if this number was legit and if there was a problem with my card, or at least notify them about this number to watch out for. Turns out that there were several fraudulent charges (all made online) and it was good that I called because they were able to cancel the card and remove the mystery charges from my bill. I received the message from 800-720-7359 within a couple days of the first mysterious charges and luckily it helped me catch something I might not have noticed once the monthly statements rolled around. Better safe than sorry, so if you get a call from this number and have suspicions, couldn't hurt to call USAA's listed customer service line. Hope this helps!

My call was much like that described by 'Peacekeeper'. I am sure that it is not really from USAA, but rather a phishing expedition. When they asked me for my e-mail address, I gave them half of it and asked them to give me the other half. That is when the 'friendly young lady' hung up.I called USAA at the number listed on my card and they stated that they had not called me and did not need to talk to me.

I just received a call from 800-720-7359.  It was a recording stating that they wanted to verify information concerning recent purchases on my USAA credit card.  The automated voice stated my name and asked me to verify who I am by pressing the "1" key on my phone, then asked me to key in my 5-digit zip code.  At that point I promptly hung up.  There are too many scams like this and I figured if USAA really needed me for something they could call me dirctly or use the email address they have on record.

USAA is a great outfit but if this is the way they will soon conduct business, they are headed in the wrong direction.

An automated call asking me to verify my last 5 purchases on my USAA American Express Card. All my purchases were routine, so not sure why I got singled out to get this call. The automation service could be nice, but it is not designed very well and is a long and tedious verification process. Unfortunately these calls always come at the wrong time. I wish USAA and other credit card companies would use email links to their secure web site instead of calls over extremely insecure voice telephone lines to do this type of verification.
