Missed a call from this number so I don't know who it was. I noticed from some of the other reports that this is "MAS Collection Agency." I can't find them on the internet. But I have had trouble with "MAF Collection Services" in Tampa Florida so I am wondering if that is who this is?

They've been calling me for ages, asking for somebody named Maria.  I don't know how many times I've already told them that they have the wrong number.

Once the idiot on the other end just paused for a while to breathe heavily after I told him.  When I said "hello?" after ten seconds of his confused and awkward silence, he hung up quickly.  Didn't think to take me off the list while he was at it - though why would he?  That would make far too much sense.  They didn't take me off any of the other times I explained the situation to them.

8007412183, don't speak, don't know them, don't
owe them, they just keep harrassing everybody, not
just me.  The Feds or the State Attorney Generals
of each state should close them down, and they should
be sued for money damages.

I'm getting really sick of this number calling me. It's called me 4 times alone today. I was about to pick up and tell them to stop calling me, but they hung up as I was about to answer. It's every single day, multiple times a day. I don't know who it is, or what they're looking for, but after being ignored so many times, don't you think they'd get a hint?!?!

I have received two calls from this number within the past two days.  I picked up the first time and there was an automated message that stated my first name and spelled out my last name, which I thought was very strange, but I abruptly hung up because I remembered seeing an email that went around my work place that warned of a new scam from Nigeria.  Apparently, they call people from these strange 800 numbers and are charging them a ridiculous amount per minute while the people are trying to figure out why they're being called over and over.  I'm not sure if that's the case or not, but there is defintely something strange about this and it is harrassment and must stop.  How can they get away with this??

I just got a call from them on my cell phone.  There is no reason for them to be calling me either, As I have no outstanding medical bills.  I'm terrified to call them back, because I know once they make contact, they never leave you alone.  I love how the message says "By listening to the following message, you agree to be the intended person..." all without ever saying who the intended person is supposed to be.

Seems like if they have been calling the wrong number for over a year you would answer and tell them it's the wrong number. If they believe you or not chances are they'll stop calling. So to answer your question, try picking up the phone and telling them it's not the right number.

You can get any bill collector off your back by invoking the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  Send them the following letter (modified to fit the case):

Re: Your file no. ________________

I deny liability to you or your client on the above-referenced claim.

Section 805 of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act provides, in part, the following:

(c)   CEASING COMMUNICATION.--If a consumer notifies a debt collector in writing that the consumer refuses to pay a debt or that the consumer wishes the debt collector to cease further communication with the consumer, the debt collector shall not communicate further with the consumer with respect to such debt, except--
   (1)  to advise the consumer that the debt collector's further efforts are being terminated;
   (2)  to notify the consumer that the debt collector or creditor may invoke specified remedies which are ordinarily invoked by such debt collector or creditor; or
   (3)    where applicable, to notify the consumer that the debt collector or creditor intends to invoke a specified remedy.
If such notice from the consumer is made by mail, notification shall be complete upon receipt.

I am hereby notifying you to cease all communication with me regarding this claim.

                        Very truly yours,

*************
Make sure to provide your name, address, file number, etc. There are hefty fines for collectors who continue to harass you after they get this letter.

That's the most stupidest answer I have ever heard. How out of touch with reality are you? I guess you are one of those fortunate people who has never had one of hese companies call your house thinking they had the correct number in which case they won't quit. I guess you have never heard that debts age with time (which is different from state to state) so here is a lesson for you
1. debts (open accts like credit cards) have a Statue of Limitations of approx 4 years in which from the time it first went delinquent, not to be confused with when it was first reported, to approx 4 years after that date in which the courts are on the side of the collector and you can be sued for the debt.
2. debts (open accts like credit cards) once they pass that 4 (approximation mark, different from state to state) they can be disputed in a court of law (but you must show proof that the Statue of Limitations - SOL) has lapsed. This is pretty easy to do because what you do is make out a letter of validation for the debt (not to be confused with a letter of verification, which is what they will try and send you back). The letter of validation should request the date the acct last went delinquent with some more info requests like, acct no. original lending institution etc etc etc. Compare this date with the dates applicable in your state. Also keep in mind that a lot of these agencies that buy delinquent accts, show the date the brought the acct as the open date or date acct last went delinquent. Don't be fooled by this, if you know the acct is 4-5 years old, don't let them tell you it's a brand new acct. Their job is to get you to make one payment. That one payment will have you hooked for another 7 years.
3. these agencies will try and collect even after the 4 year mark, remember the year is different from state to state. they want their money. once you start making payments you are HOOKED. the clock starts all over again.
With all of that being said. We all make mistakes, get behind on our bills etc etc etc...things happen. The best thing is to pay your bills on time. If you don't and they go delinquent as prescibed by the laws in your state, then the law may be on your side if it has passed the SOL.
I am not a lawyer, this was done with a lot of research and letter writing and phone calling. I was in this situation, so i know a little of what i'm talking about. I have gotten some aged debts taken off my credit report and the letters and calls stopped.

Technically, its not a scam if they have the wrong number for a person they're looking for. I had the same thing happen with a different company, they were looking for some one I had never heard of and I could barely hear the person speak. But I told them I didnt know the person and they took my number off their lists.

It happens, unfortunately. But any good company stops calling. If they keep calling, THEN its a scam or whatever.

Debt Collector
I had several missed calls from this #, 800-741-2183,today while I was at work. They did not leave any messages for me. I decided to call it back when I got home. I spoke with a male representative and they asked for my phone # and said, is this Michele Green? I said no. This person said that he would have my phone # taken off of the list within the next 24 hours. I also, have no outstanding bills in any financial area. I pay all of my bills on time as well. This IS A SCAM!!!

I had a call from this number today also, 8007412183. I looked it up on the internet and came to this website. The recording said it was a message for someone with a different first name than mine, but the same last name. This seems to be a pattern from what I am reading, and obviously they're phishing for information and are not a legitimate collection agency, since they never get the correct phone number. If I continue to receive calls from them, I will have my lawyer get involved.

This number keep calling me looking for someone else (a person that I do not even know?!?!?) Called them twice to remove me from their call list, told them I am not on the do not call list, still calling me. Just filed a complaint against them at http://www.donotcall.gov.

If we all file a complaint, that will make the system moving. Let's do it!!!

Secret information? Pay my bills and the calls stop? I don't have a single outstanding bill. Not one. Zilch...nadda...nothing. Nothing from my past, either. Our bills come in the mail and we pay them. We have no unpaid medical bills, insurance bills, utility bills, NOTHING! All car payments, house payments, etc. are made on time and paid in full. But the calls keep coming. So, you have proved that you are not only unscrupulous, but total liars, too.

Your company's web site (http://www.mafcollection.com/about_us.html) declares "Mission Statement ? MAF Collection Services will be recognized as a premier debt collection agency, known for well-trained, professional staff that meets only the highest ethical standards of the industry." It's a good thing you put that in the future tense because in the present tense you have the lowest ethical standards of any industry except, perhaps, drug trafficking and human slavery. And "professional" is certainly not an accurate description. I'd like to see how you would do in a court of law. I wonder what a jury of YOUR peers would look like? scales...forked tongues...
