Announcement from RCN, but not telemarketing.  They called to say they have chosen to upgrade the speed of my cable internet service, free of charge, please enjoy the new service.  Sure enough, the speed was increased.  No complaints from me.

This number called my Net-10 throw away phone, and this number has never been given out by me.

RCN called and left a voicemail saying they upgraded me from 10MB/s to 20MB/s at no additional cost. That's cool, I hope both statements are really true.

annoying - i assume this is RCN given that I've reverse googled this #.  No one talks or leaves a message.  They keep hounding me. RCN - stop calling, you're harrassing customers / former customers who have moved.  If they want your services, they know where to go.  YOu're doing more damage than effective sales / marketing.  Enough with the madness.

This number is RCN, and they were given my phone number by Chicago Apartment Finders.  I don't remember giving Chicago Apartment Finders permission to hand out my phone number... shady!

Not sure what is the deal with this number but I got a call from them on my cellphone, they left a short voice mail saying it was in regards to my payment, I have NEVER had this RCN service, never had heard of them...

Thanks for all the info on who the 800 # belongs to.  I got the call today again, and one back on May 12th.  I am an RCN customer, but I didn't pick up in time.  So I figure, if I miss a call and you can not leave a message, it could not have been that important!  But I;m sure they'll try another time.

They called twice recently.  First time, no message.  Second time, I pick up the phone and the guy goes "What's up man, what do you want to do?"  I say "Pardon?" and he hangs up.

Got this call today, blocked with Google voice, f*** yeah!!!

It's illegal, technically, but when you signed up for RCN and agreed to their terms of service, you gave them permission to call the number you registered with.  Even if you haven't had their service for years, that's how they're getting around the legal technicality and still calling you without breaking any laws.

For what it's worth, RCN is far from the only company that does this kind of thing -- it's pretty standard these days.

Thanks for the info, everyone.  I was wondering who this was.  I thought it was illegal for companies to cold call via cell phone?

In the past 3 weeks, they have called nearly every day. One day they actually called three times. They never leave a message. This is beyond annoying.

Ugh, this is annoying. They keep calling, twice today already, once yesterday, once on Tuesday and once on Monday.  I have RCN service, but don't need any special offers and am not waiting for any service.

1-800-746-4726 calls at least twice a day, at all hours. Rings and doesn't leave message. This is getting annoying to say the least and I use RCN internet service.

This number has been calling for the past several days. I haven't answered. It makes me want to cancel my RCN service.

It feels like I get this call every day, sometimes twice a day. How do I get my number off their list?! I refuse to answer and they keep calling. this is a huge waste of my time

Calls usually come in pairs, but while I'm at work or school.  Never a message, and since it's RCN, I will never upgrade.

it's RCN, calling to give special offers.  i only want them for what I have, not adding on services and I've requested not to get these "special offers".  They call about once every 6 months, so it's not terribly annoying but still it's unwanted.

RCN called, but it was an actual person. He could barely get through the message, and didn't really get far. He was calling about a special, but really didn't feel like selling it, since he was talking so slow with really long pauses.

It is RCN and they call non stop - i havent had their svc in 3 mos and do not owe them any money so this is all sales calls.

I am expecting calls from contractors, so I picked it up.  It was a short (30  second) message from RCN advertising some cable package.  I already have RCN for cable, so I guess it was an up sell.

Really annoying - I dont want companies to get the idea that this is an OK way to advertise.

This is RCN (1-800-RING-RCN), but I didn't pick up, so I'm not sure why they called.  It has happened once previously too.  They usually don't leave a message.
