I received a text from "Verizon" (my carrier) stating that I was about to exceed my minutes and to call that number to change plans.  I'm nowhere near my limit.  I think it may be a scam company.

Event Reminder
I received the following:

------------------------------------------
from: 900-070-003774
Free verizon wireless message: Did you know you can check your minutes by dialing #MIN? Or call 800-749-1352 for a free calling plan analysis. To opt out press X.
------------------------------------------

The text message is valid. It is not a scam. It is just a reminder from Verizon letting you know that you are about to go over your minutes and that you need to check to see how many minutes you have left.

I called Verizon from a land-line phone and I explained to the customer service rep that I received this text message and I asked him if he can confirm that the text message came from them. He asked me to give him the id number in the "from" section of the text message (which is the 900-070-003774 number above) and as soon as I said 900 he said "yes that is definitely from us." He then proceeded to pull up my account to verify the message and informed me that the reason it was sent was that my minutes were running low and that it was basically their way of reminding me.

He then told me that I had 73 minutes left on my account until my next billing cycle  and if I thought that it would last me for the next 3 days when my minutes refresh. Since I have multiple phones on the account, I told him that I would notify my family that we only have 73 minutes left and to not use up those minutes and that we should be ok (luckily I have a family that listens). He then stated that since I have always kept my account in good order, he would add 150 free minutes to my account just in case (the 150 minutes would not rollover to the next moth of course). He was an extremely nice guy and was very accommodating.

Although there was nothing to worry about, my advice to anyone else would be to not call or text any number in a text message. Instead call the main number of your service provider (in this case Verizon) from a land-line and let them know about the text message you received. They will verify if the text message came from them and let you know what to do.

That isn't a 900 number. There are too many digits. That's the "user ID" of the text messager. I just got the same message sent to me and googled to see if anyone was getting the same message. I called the number from a secure line at work since the 800 number isn't identified anywhere and isn't showing up in the reverse lookup. It is, indeed, Verizon Wireless, and they were trying to upsell my account to higher or limitless minutes.

I just got the exact text message and stupid me replied with an "X." I immediately got a response back that read
"Thank you. If you wish to eliminate all future SMS informational and marketing from Verizon Wireless, reply Q."
This seemed weird so I began researching a little bit. This is a scam! It is texting from and to a 1-900 number. Don't be fooled! I'm calling verizon immediately to report it and see if they can flag my account so I won't have to pay.
