If Obama and the NSA had looked at all my personal data they had collected they would that the person they ask for did not live at the number they called. Remember, BIG GOVT is watching you.

My sister-in-law got a call from this number and they asked for my cell phone number.  They left a case number for her to give to me.

Good morning, "ILA." It's not fake, it is really the Bureau of Census attempting to do their job on behalf of the National Science Foundation for a legitimate survey. Please do your research before inflating the paranoia levels of the masses. Typing in ALL CAPS makes it seem like you are yelling on the internet. Thank you.

I GOT A CALL A FEW DAYS AGO--WANTED MY ADDRESS ETC. SAID THEY WOULD KEEP CALLING TILL I GAVE THEM THE INFO. I KINDLY TOLD THEM TO JUST TAKE MY NAME OFF THEIR LIST & I WOULDN'T BE ANSWERING ANY QUESTIONS. SO FAR SO GOOD. I KNEW IT WAS FAKE AS SOON AS THEY STARTED ASKING PERSONAL QUESTIONS.

Adding yourself to the Do Not Call Registry only affects telemarketers, not official government agencies so this is not going to stop any phone calls/mailings from being sent or directed to you.

1 800 722 3069 is the number used directly by the Census Bureau for telephone interviewing for the National Survey of College Graduates. If you are being contacted by this number or some other form of contact asking you to reply to that # it is because through census reports or alumni association data the National Science Foundation (Official sponsor of the study) had gathered you or the individual being asked for has received a college degree equivalent to Bachelors OR higher. The primary goal of this study is to provide our young minds statistical data to help them choose a college degree to obtain, and also a field of work to put their degree to use in upon completion.

Additionally, the Census Bureau conducts many other surveys/studies other than the Census you complete every 10 years. Just because YOU have never heard of it, does not mean it is false representation or a scam.

got call from this number (8007723069) today Feb 7, 2011, claiming to be from the US Census Bureau, leaving a case id of two letter and 5 numbers (length 7), and insisting to only speak to me not even my wife. do not intend to call back, and that number is not listed on the official Census Bureau website.
this stinks.

Survey
I got a very official message saying to call 800-772-3068 and give a reference number. They knew the address, asked if I was a man we formerly had as a housemate, and then wanted a phone number for him. I was reluctant to give it to them. Is this really a census number?

My understanding is the real US Census Bureau does *not* call or email, they will either send a written form or a live person with a real ID will show up at your door. I strongly suggest you call/email the real US Census Bureau and ask if this is for real. Without having looked into it, I won't *ever* give out info over the phone.

Survey
On 10/21/2010, there was a phone message from this number saying it was "the Census Bureau" and to call the toll-free number and mention a case number. I returned the call at 5:47 p.m. Central Time, and the number was answered by a female who said "US Census Bureau". She asked for the case number; I provided it and then was asked if my call was in reference to a phone message left at (my phone number which she stated).  Then she wanted verification that I was (specific person in my household) because she had "questions on a survey" to be answered. When informed that I was not the named individual and that the person she sought would refuse to answer any phone surveys, she said she would mail the survey to the named individual at the address she had.

Political Call
I got this number via e-mail (shown below), not a phone call.  Before I did any research, this appeared to be more spam, but I did find links between a "Deborah Kinnaman" and the Census Bureau.  Within the following document, you can find details on which census survey it is (National Survey of College Graduates): http://www.census.gov/main/www/surveyabstracts.pdf
NOTE: The survey for which they may have attempted to contact you MAY BE DIFFERENT!

But if you think you were chosen for the same survey I was, that document lists the contact numbers for each of the surveys.  For example, it lists Ms. Kinnaman's telephone number, shown here for those unemployed college grads who feel they've been harassed: 301-763-3817.  Note that she also appears as the contact person on several other surveys, such as the National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation (2006) and the Telephone Point-of-Purchase Survey.
