I told the caller that I won't give identifying information.
When she came to her question about my age, she asked 10 times, and 10 times I reminded her "no identifying information."
She stopped the survey then.
That was 20 minutes into her survey.

Received a call on Sunday 1-20-2013 caller suggested they were from the California Department of Public Health and gave me the 1-800-780-7273 to call to talk to a supervisor, as I balked at taking the survey, as the caller ID info looked a lot like the same company that called me twice about solar. - ( 408-703-6484) I did not call 800-780-7273  she gave me to research them as that would give them my name tied to my number. Others stated they  "Could not find anything on the internet about this number, could not find this number on the CA State Dept. of Public Health Website.  Called back the number and they said "survey department", if they were with the state than it is only logical that they would answer the phone in that fashion...feels bogus to me."

I am just going to pick up the phone next time and hang up if I see any of these numbers calling me. Why would the Health department not know who they are calling ?

Yep, got the same call - first thing he asked was if this was a private residence without even identifying himself!  Eventually said he was from CA Dept of Health Services. When I pressed him for which State of CA administrative dept he was with, he said that they were "a nonprofit taking a survey". Interestingly, our phone # is unpublished.  Hmmmm?  He then said he was interested in talking to private residences, not businesses, so I suggested he could look in the white pages of the phone book and find lots of people to call (tee-hee-tee-hee) .......... he was not pleased with my "stupidity".  It is amazing how superior scammers feel until you turn the scam back on them, LOL.  The true joke is on him, smells like a phone scam / phishing trip to me!
By the way, to the best of my knowledge, "nonprofits" are exempt from adhering to the do-not-call list which is how political orgs supporting candidates skirt around it also. Get any of those calls at dinner?

Said she was from "California Department of Public Health Research Project Heath Study" and wanted to ask me questions. Her phone number was 800-781-7273 not 000-0000-0000.  I quote the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991--"remove my name, phone number, address from you list and do not call me back" If they call again, penalty of $1,500 each call. PS I am on the Do Not Call List but they still call.
This is their 4th call in 2 weeks to me.

Seems like Dr. Richard Brown is a real dick...

Everyone should all call his home number repeatedly and ask him personal questions!

He will probably take the data with him to some marketing company or HMO, and it is not at all for California Health, whatever that is anyhow.

I got a call from an unknown number.  The person said she was with the California Public Health Department and asked if I would mind taking a survey.  When I asked how long it would take she didn't know, but said it would be more than five minutes.  I foolishly agreed to participate, but the person got very rude and started to ask questions that I did not want to answer, so I told her I was done and hung up.  Tonight I got a call from another person who asked to speak to the oldest female in the house.  When I told her that I did not want to participate in the survey, she asked to give me the address of a website that I could go on and confirm that "we are who we say we are."  I told her again that I didn't want to participate and she said "but you're halfway done..so she knew who she was talking to and that I had partially completed the survey.  I told her (again) that I was not going to do it and she was still talking when I hung up.  They are with CHIS (California Health Interview Survey) which is conducted by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research.  The Director's name is Richard Brown, PhD. I'm going to find out this guy's e-mail or phone number and request that his team stop harassing me.

SAme as above - asked they send out a written survey, but said they could not - went to the CDC web site and essentially the same questions are there on a survey SO anyone could copy it and say they are from the CDC - waste of TAX PAYER MONEY IF IT IS REAL --

Just got a call from a person with the same operating script.  They have me the 800-780-7273 to call back for more information.  They called right in the middle of the SuperBowl too!  Looking at the California .gov websites to see if I can find anything to verify the legitimacy of the survey but haven't found anything yet.

They called me too and were very persistent.  I kept saying I didn't want to do the survey and I had to argue with the guy for nearly 5 minutes.  I don't believe they work for the state, maybe they are a contracted firm that collects data and provides that to the state, but I don't believe they are government employees.   (they were trying way too hard)

I called the 800 780 7273 and asked how I could find out this number on CA Dept of Health website. They pointed me to google and said to do a search for "brfs california." No luck. Then they said to do a search for "brfss california cdph" That returned results but I hung up before verifying that I could find the number on the site, which I did not. I did not call back.

They did sound very eager to prove that they worked for the government, which I asked them several times and they said yes, they did. Sounds too fishy. Stay away.

BTW, the first caller did say to refer to br-31 (search results yielded no such study) if I call the 800 780 7273 #. Not sure what that meant but I did not give it to them when I called.

Have received multiple calls from unknown on caller id, each time stating that it is a State of CA Public Health survey. Each time the person launches into the "survey" like I am just supposed to start answering right away - first thing is: how many adults over 18 are there in your home - and each time I tell them that I don't want to participate. Then, the person starts to "argue" with me as to why I should be answering the questions. This last time - just a few minutes ago - I told the caller to have our number removed from the list and also to give me a number to call to verify. The number was 800-780-7273 and, now, I am here.

Even if this is a legit call, I have no way to tell who is on the other end of the line. I do not trust that the 800 number is going to be legit, either. With identity theft and crime targeting so prevalent today, there is no way that I am giving any information to anyone I do not know via a phone call from unknown name / unknown number.

I keep getting the Unknown caller on my ID and usually they hang up, the two times they called and I made the mistake of picking up...they wanted to know HOW many girls live in the house, and if they could talk to the second oldest. Ok...that made me uncomfortable. They claimed to be from the CA Department of Health in SAC. I told them my sister was away at school and not to call back. Of course they did, and argued with me when I told them I was not going to let them talk to my little sister. I told them to put me on a "do not call list", then they gave me that bogus survey number 1-800-780-7273. It is all very odd and not worth trusting...nor can I find any information on this number, just this here.

I have received this survey call three time from 1-800-780-7273., and have asked them to take me of the calling list.
At this point I am more interested in finding out if there is someone in the California Dept of Health who I can talk to to complain about there guys if the really work for that department, and if not, maybe to some law enforcement agency.

I just got a call from the number referenced. Like everyone else I was told he worked for the CDC and that I could validate it by looking at the web site or calling the 800 number. The first question he asked is do I live in a home or apartment. The number that came up on my caller ID was  Unknown 1-000-0000

Received a call a 2PM 5/19/2008 caller suggested they were from the California Department of Public Health and gave me an 800 # to research them before they called back for their apx. 30 min. random survey.  800-780-7273.  Could not find anything on the internet about this number, could not find this number on the CA State Dept. of Public Health Website.  Called back the number and they said "survey department", if they were with the state than it is only logical that they would answer the phone in that fashion...feels bogus to me.

I called AT&T and told them to stop allowing 000-000-0000 or 123-456-7890 to be used.  There is no reason that they could not just send all those bogus calls to a black hole somewhere.

I WAS TOLD AT&T SELLS FAKE NUMBERS TO BUSINESSES and if I have a complaint she gave me the number to the FCC.

This is just a way for major phone companies to make money by selling fake numbers that can't be traced to circumvent the DO NOT CALL LIST.

The only way to stop this is to get an aftermarket phone that sends numbers you do not want to voicemail without ringing the phone.  Some of the older ones ring once then goes to voicemail.

Check the reviews to see which ones work.

They have been calling me almost every day for the last week. They are very rude. Won't take no for an answer since I did not want to participate. They kept asking for other people in the household. When I asked about the 000 identification number, they gave me the bogus 800-780-7273 number. No legitimate survey on behalf of the state of California would perform a telehone survey. This is known in the computer industry as data mining. They want all your private information and will sell it to the highest bidder. DON'T PARTICIPATE. CALL THE COPS.

Same experience as many of the above posts.  They jump right into asking how many adults over 18, and argued with me when I told them I didn't want to participate.
I called the number provided when I asked for a supervisor and actually received a call back.  The woman directed me to this web site
www.cdc.gov/brfss
and to this survey http://www.cdc.gov/brfss/questionnaires/pdf-ques/2010brfss.pdf
In spite of the aggressive behavior of the phone agent, it seems legit unless this is an opportunistic company trying to leverage the CDC's questionnaire.
I asked the woman to take me off the call list, and she said she would.
