Just received this call. Picked it up and hung up in their face. I still do not believe its an emergency notification call. I have already had the codered call. I just hang up on them.

A call from this number came in on Call Waiting. With Caller ID, I am spared from answering the phone from these scammers. Unless the Fed decides to stop this kind of traffic, we are stuck with it. Wish somebody would run for Senator with this kind of stuff to be first on his or her Agenda.

@Ron I definitely agree with you and I do just that when they call I do go on the website to see who is actually calling me they never leave a message so you know that it must be a telemarketers.

I just received a call @ 2:12pm it came up unknown on my caller #ID of course they didn't leave a message so it must be someone trying to sell something.

I am in NY. I got a ticket in NYC. It was put in collection. I received calls every day from a collection agency. Them stopped answering the phone. Then received a call from this number caller ID Emergency System, 10 minutes later they called again.

Well I guess that the folks at 800 791-3749 have worked their way from the west coast all the way to New York. Personally, I don't pick up my phone unless I know who's calling. 99.9% of the time it telemarketers or some other harassing company. Do yourself a favor, when an 800 number is seen on your caller ID, don't answer it, just check them out on the web, you can always call them back if they're legit.
Good Luck,

Phone rang once and stopped.....
radishmom 2011-06-06 20:58:25 Unknown
North Florida -- left cut-off msg "...test of the emergency (?) system. In case of an acutal emergency..." (similar to those emergency broadcast tests you see, or used to, on TV). But it only rang the one time, not the NINE times over the course of a day (9 AM to 4:30 PM) as happened when nobody picked up a couple of weeks ago.
Not sure whether to believe it's legit, as we had had a bona fide emergency a few weeks prior to that, and the Caller ID showed "********* County Sheriff" (or something similarly official, not "Toll Free Call").

just got a similar call
I might save the number as "emergeny note" or something so I recognize it in case or an actual emergency....

I got a call today but didn't answer it. Caller ID only gave the number. I'm in Kansas.
Our CodeRed system is just now getting set up. I registered my home number but not my cell phone. The call from this number came to my cell phone, which is not registered with CodeRed.
I just called this number back and got a recording that it is just a test of the CodeRed system.
Wonder how they got my cell phone number. I didn't get a test call from this number for the land line that I did register.
I like things to be clear and easy to verify. When they don't identify themselves on the Caller ID it becomes a nuisance, an annoyance, and causes me to want to withdraw my permission to call me. Not that they would honor that, or they'd be more out front to begin with. What is the purpose of deliberately blocking the name from showing up on the Caller ID?

We get a call from 800-791-3749 all the time, day and night....really weird hours. Can't believe they are testing the emergency system THAT MUCH!

Just received a call from this number and didn't answer. I have been getting calls from different numbers lately and some have been from prisons. I would like these calls to stop. I am on the National Do Not Call List.

Called ~ 11:45am today to cell phone. Let vmail pick it up. Message said it was a test of the emergency notification system and that no action was required on my part, this is only a test. Will report again if callbacks persist. I agree with previous posters -- this may be legitimate, but also it is so easy to spoof IDs that it is really impossible to know which calls are scams when they are ringing.

Metro area Portland, OR -- same call the last three days on my cell phone. "test of your community's emergency notification system" I'm not answereing.
Vigilant 2009-08-18 01:00:04 Unknown
Received this call a while ago in the Portland area, did not pick up. They are collecting phone numbers from those that do pick up to sell for future telemarketing, per my friend at the phone co.

Again, unless I receive a letter in the mail or see something on my local news about receiving a call from some sort of emergency call center, then I consider this and all unknown calls as a scam/telemarket. There is too much caller id spoofing services available, this call can be anyone.

Received call from 800-791-3749 here in Virginia at 12:21 PM 9 June 2009.
Cell phone didn't ring; it just beeped and showed "missed call" 800-791-3749. I didn't recognize number so I just ignored it.

Shortly after submitting my earlier entry, I received another call from this annoying number. I finally got fed up and decided to take action. I got ahold of the Emergency Communications Network in Ormond Beach, Florida. This company is in charge of handling the Code Red Emergency system. I spoke to a really helpful girl and explained to her that I'd been getting calls from an 800-number and she began to look into it for me. My cell phone number is registered with the Code Red system. The system kept automatically redialing my cell phone number because my cell phone doesn't ring right away. I have ring-back tones with Verizon Wireless. When someone calls my number, it asks them to please enjoy the music while I am reached. The Code Red system doesn't recognize this and automatically thinks that it's supposed to retry later. Because I hadn't been able to be reached on my cell phone before (due to my ring-back tones), the system did a test of my home number. It dialed once and left a message and did not dial again because it was able to get through to an actual voice mail / answering machine. The girl at ECN explained that because their system has not been able to get through on my cell phone, my cell number would be removed from their calling list. The system thinks that it is a disconnected number at this point because there has been no answer.
Not sure if this will help anyone else but I feel a little bit better now that I've gotten an answer as to why these annoying calls kept coming through. :)

I have gotten 4 to 5 calls per day from this phone number for the past three days! It's getting really old! My phone usually rings once and then they hang up. How annoying!
labby 2009-02-20 16:08:38 Unknown
i've gotten calls from this number twice this week. i don't believe for a minute that this is from the emergency system. i've gotten calls from the emergency system before during severe weather events and the number is identified as the emergency broadcast system not "unknown".
