Mr. Griffin leaves messages for someone I do not know and basically tells me I am a liar when I call back to tell him not to call. What a rude, unprofessional "private investigator" my butt. Never said what it was for but he would have the police serve a summons and that I somehow knew who he was looking for but whatever story I want to stick to. Boy' your Mom must be proud of you. Get a real, honest job, you moron!

Debt Collector
You will find that this collector with call using caller ID spoofing which is illegal.  Be sure to file a complaint with the FCC:  http://www.fcc.gov/complaints

Know your rights:  http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Do I have any recourse if I think a debt collector has violated the law?
You have the right to sue a collector in a state or federal court within one year from the date the law was violated. If you win, the judge can require the collector to pay you for any damages you can prove you suffered because of the illegal collection practices, like lost wages and medical bills. The judge can require the debt collector to pay you up to $1,000, even if you can?t prove that you suffered actual damages. You also can be reimbursed for your attorney?s fees and court costs. A group of people also may sue a debt collector as part of a class action lawsuit and recover money for damages up to $500,000, or one percent of the collector?s net worth, whichever amount is lower. Even if a debt collector violates the FDCPA in trying to collect a debt, the debt does not go away if you owe it.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

When, oh when, will people start learning once and for all that you cannot "block" a phone's number when you call a toll-free number?

I have been ignoring these calls from 'unknown' for about a month.  They have left only a handful of voicemails, always from a Mr someone.  When I called back on a blocked number trying to call their bluff, they were extemely rude.  I filed with the FTC weeks ago.  I cannot stand the calls, but they are relentless.  I dont know what to do next.  A month of this has been too long.

My grandma got a call from 1-800-793-5729 yesterday from Mr. Butler looking for me and said if they didn't here from me they would be turning me over to the Sheriffs Department. They upset my grandmother so I got the number and called them back. Mr. Butler said he had his Private Investigator track down my dads number but what he didn't realize is that he called my grandpa. I reported them to local authorities yesterday and they called back today and I told them they have been reported and to have no further contact with me and that any call after this is harassment. Very rude and scum of the earth people. They wouldn't bother me but when they upset my 80 year old grandmother it pisses me off. I plan on reporting them to the FTC and the BBB later today as well

Trey(brother) said he was very rude. He called him a liar when he said he didnt have a number to reach me at. He also told my brother that i missed a summons. I didnt even know i had a summons aren't they supose to send something in the mail or get a hold of you. I have never had a summons before but i dont think i can miss one if i did not even know there was one.

This guy called my ex-grandmother-in-law looking for my sister. He said his name was Bryan Butler and that he was a lawyer looking to speak to my sister regarding a huge debt. When asked how he got "grandmothers" number, he replied he recieved the number via a private detective. However he didnt call me or my family and we are her immediate family. Beware this number. Don't call them and if they call you, REPORT them immediately.

Mr. Johnson called my cell while I was at work.  Took his number and told him I would call him back.  In the next 30 minutes, he calls my job and tells them to have me call him, that he was having papers served on me at work.  Call them back, spoke to a supervisor that was so rude and started screaming at me.  Gave me until noon the next day to pay them 500.00 dollars.
