Sister-in-law got the same call, and gave the woman on the phone access to her computer.  Called my wife while on-line with the 'support' person, who had access to the PC for something like 30 minutes.  She did not give her a credit card number, but there is no telling what was pushed to her PC or pulled down during the session.  When my wife realized she was still on-line with the 'support' person, she told her to turn the power off on the computer immediately, which she did.

We are now coaching her through changing the passwords to every single on-line site she has ever visited on that computer, and tomorrow she'll take it to a computer shop and have the hard drive wiped clean and re-install the operating system.

Got this call today, actually from 425-668-9652, Sam Jones (With an East Indian accent) calling from Windows tech support. I asked how I'm supposed to know for sure that they are Windows, and he said "because I'm telling you I am". I asked for the phone number to call them back and he gave me this one. I told him I googled the number, and did not come back with anything from Microsoft. He said "How do you expect to find it on Google? It's just a phone number" I said if I google Microsoft Support right now, I get phone numbers to contact them. He told me those numbers are just to supply you with computers, not to help fix problems. Obviously, he has no idea about how any of this works... I told him I know this is a scam and I would report the number to the police. He replied "Yeah, ok, you go ahead and do that. Goodbye."

Tried calling the number back and it just rings and rings.

Just got the call same as everyone else.  Immediately, I was skeptical but they readily gave out the 1-800-806-0762 number to call the manager.  I had difficulty understanding her (East Indian accent) and she had all the telemarketing lines down pat.  I asked how they got my information and she said it was when I registered the software we purchased.  I asked why they didn't call when we had issued with our computer before, why only now and she had no answer.  Like others, she deflected to the urgency of my computer issues right now.  When I said that I didn't trust her, identified it as a scam and said I'd be reporting this she said I should call the phone number.  Don't trust then!!!

Just got the call today almost had me fooled. But when I started pressing for answers to verify weather he was from Microsoft he would just go back to the urgency of repairing my computer, I asked his name, he replied Micheal  Brown ( with an East Indian Accent) . Google Micheal brown you will find he was at one point the CFO of Microsoft. Allot of things do not add up in his pitch so I basically told him to give me a number I can reach him at which he did. (1800-806-0762)  Then when  I told him i would have the local authorities check it out for me. What do you think happened next?
!!!! The phone went dead !!!!

Thanks Mike for the web info from Microsoft. I urge everyone who are getting these calls to have a look and can see that Microsoft is aware of the scam, does not support it in any way, shape, or fashion.

My call came from `Sam' a couple of days ago. A month earlier it was William. Same voice, same guy I suspect. When I asked him where was he calling from he, hesitated and finally said, North Bay. North Bay?  However, he couldn't tell me where the hell North Bay was. Then he said, it's near Toronto... Idiot... I hung up.

Three days later  (very persistent these parasites) the same guy, this time his name is  Shane, (with a very noticeable East Indian accent) again wants me to allow him to give him permission to `enter' my computer to fix these so-called scary malicious virus components. WTF.

I asked him where he was calling from and now says, California. Ok, where in California. Silence. I said, San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Jose, Monterey. Silence, then he says,,..San Francisco. Ok, what's your address. Mumble, mumble in the background in a foreign language, then comes back with "It is not our policy to give out that information".

The name of their company which I'm sure was an error on East Indian `Shane's' part is called WebSupport247. Google this and you'll see it's an on line sales pitch for yes,..software to fix your computer. Hope all this helps.

I won't go into more of this ridiculous conversation as I'm sure you've all heard it before. Anyway, finally, got the phone number. It is 1-800-806-0762. Google it and you'll see similar WTF moments.

I have re-copied the Microsoft info that Mike posted. Have a look. Good luck.

Got a call from them.  Strung them along.  Asked them how my computer could be running slow if it was off, and whether the viruses would pose a risk for the health of myself or my family.  Asked to be put in touch with the technician immediately to remove such dangerous viruses.  When I was passed on to the second level, I replied that I use linux and not Windows.  I think he was both miffed and confused.  Next time I will ask if in addition to fixing my computer, whether they can replace my Thermopanes while they are at it. :-)

Same here, my aunt called me yesterday saying that someone named Mike Steve called her to let her know that they have been receiving malicious virus from her computer and they were there to help her guide her through removing them.

She was on her way out and said she would call them back and was given this toll free number.

Since my husband is a tech, she normally has him do any work on her computer so thank goodness she called us to ask. We told her that if anyone ever calls for issues like that, do not believe them.

What a bunch of scammers preying on people.

My husband received a call and the person told him that there was a serious problem with our computer.  My husband asked who was calling and they told him 'Windows'.  My husband doesn't use the computer often and told the guy that he should call back when I was there.  He said he couldn't and left this 1-800 #
First of all Windows is a software... I told my husband next time this happens just hang up.
Hope this helps others.
