Same here, I called the number in the email, then I got worried and googled the number and got to this site. I got even more worried and called the number on my card, but they verified my account had just been closed due to security reasons, and a new card is being issued.

Ditto - Got worried after I found this site and called Chase via the fraud number listed on the Chase site.  They verified that my account was closed.  Whew!

This is definitely LEGITIMATE.  My husband had a fraudulent charge on his credit card they phoned him and sent two emails. They are stopping his card and expressing him a new one. Our account online already has the new credit card number. He phoned them twice as he was travelling on the road and had a bad connection. This is not the first time Chase has come to our rescue. Thank you Chase.

I received and email regarding possible fraudulent charges.  Rather than call the number on the email I called the number on the back of my Chase Visa card.  There were fraudulent chanrges on the card.  The email was legitimate.  Thanks Chase!

Legitimate number for Chase. I received an e-mail about fraudulent charges and was told to call this number. Instead, I called the number on the back of my card and they confirmed that suspicious charges were made.

I too called this number back after the email and took the action of closing my card. I then called the back of the card and confirmed that the account had been closed and a new card sent, so this number does seem legit.

Agree with the advice from above posters, however, safest to just call the number on the back of your credit card.

It is legit. I'm the most cautious person you could ever meet. Made a few calls before actually following instructions on this particular email. Or pretty much any email I've ever got. In this case, the number belongs to chase fraud department. Rest assured. Do not believe anyone on this thread that has said it's a scam. If ever in doubt, call the back of the card FIRST.

The number IS valid.  Only 1% of a phishing email needs to be fake for it to work.  They can send you an email that has EVERY SINGLE part of it filled with the REAL, official numbers, but the link having something like http://www.chasef.com (the f could be anything they slip in that diverts the click to a bogus address), hoping you click the link instead of calling the number(s).

If you call the number, and the email is bogus, then they would simply tell you that the email is bogus.  Oh well, the scammer didn't catch you.  They still have thousands of others they MIGHT catch.

Still, it's better to treat ALL information as suspect, and just call the number on your card or on the official Chase (or other credit card) website.  Even though someone MAY have received an actual scam email with this number in it, that doesn't mean the number is fake.

That number (800-876-4811) is currently (as of 2013/02/20) a VALID Chase Fraud Department phone number.  Anyone trying to tell you that it is a scam number are either lying, overly suspicious, or simply ignorant.

Just because that number may appear in an email does NOT mean it isn't a phishing attempt.  Often, phishing attempts rely on you clicking the link, and not bothering to call the phone number.  They may give a VALID phone number, hoping that they sent enough bogus emails out that SOMEONE will click the link.

I made a stupid tonight, and called the number without thinking. (It's past beer o'clock)  It has taken some time, but I finally got someone from Chase (via the number on the back of my card) to actually call the number himself, then verify that the person he was speaking to is one of their employees.  So...as of tonight, 800-876-4811 IS a VALID Chase phone number, though the people at Chase have a difficult time finding any record of it.

In any case, the SAFEST thing to do is immediately call the number on the back of your card when you receive an email like this.  In my case, the email was a valid fraud alert due to a suspicious online purchase that I had actually made.  Your mileage may vary.

ALWAYS call the number on your card! NEVER call a phone # from an email. Credit card companies will NEVER contact you via phone.

That said, it's easy to spoof email addresses and phone numbers. I probably should have used the number on my card in the first place.

Please remember that you cannot trust a number on an incoming call. Caller ID is correct, but with spoofing, that call could be from anywhere in the world. NEVER give out personal information on a phone call you did not make from phone book, back of credit card, or statement.

Number is legit. Call and verify with the number on the back of your card if you want. I did and they verified it is a legitimate chase fraud dept.

Anyone telling you the number is legit is a liar and working for the scammers. 1) This is not the way Chase addresses fraudulent transactions (2) the actual reply address from the sent mail is EASY to identify as NOT coming from Chase, (3) Chase would NEVER under any circumstance do this: "Internationally, you can call us collect at 480-902-7910." - read that quote very carefully, what is "Chase" asking you to do? Think about it... Being vague to not tip off the scam ring in India (yeah, that is where the 480 number is actually set to ring).

Work in Fraud mitigation for an International payment service and used to supervise business billing services for a large US telcom... deal with these guys all day for the past 15 years.

Got a fraud email that said to call this number.  Just called the number on the back of my card and indeed it was legit.  Why would anyone say this is fraud?  Always be safe though and call the # on the back of your card.

i received an email also from "Chase" trying to verify a "Go Daddy" transaction.  I was to verify the transaction...As I do not have a Chase credit card I went online to get the phone number to call Chase...they responded that the 800-876-4811 number IS NOT a Chase phone number and any email from them would be addressed using your first name.

This number is not for Chase bank it is a scam. Do not call this number for any reason they will try and get your info as if they are from Chase bank. I received several spam emails that contain this number - it looks very real but is bogus and not part of Chase Bank or Card services.

This number does not actually belong to Chase, it belongs to a scam posing as Chase trying to get information about your bank accounts. They have sent me numerous bogus emails and used this phone number in the email to get you to call. I have verified with Chase that these emails are a scam.  Do not give any information to anyone calling from this number!!

This number belongs to the Chase credit card security department.  If they don't have your email address, they will continually try to call you to verify a purchase that sounds out of your spending habit pattern.
