I received a BofA phishing email today asking me to verify my account information. The phone number for more info was listed as 800-887-5749.
Even though I suspected this to be a phishing scam, I called the number (from my cell phone and blocked the caller id) so that I could quiz them and play with them a bit. To my frustration they just kept me in the "your call will be answered soon" loop! The email wanted me to confirm my credit card info.........I don't have a credit card with BofA so it was easy to spot this scam. Just wanted to have a little fun with these losers and make them think they had a live fish on the line for a few minutes! : )
I called the real BofA number and reported the incident and forwarded the email to abuse@bankofamerica.com for their review. BEWARE..........banks never ask you to verify information like this online. ALWAYS call the number you were given at account opening. NEVER call a bank phone number given to you in an email no matter how legit it looks and NEVER CLICK ON THE WEBSITE LINKS THEY PROVIDE.

Okay, so today i got two weird emails in my spam from "BofA". One said that I should call 800-887-5749 and provide personal info to confirm my account. BofA sends text messages to me, not emails, but I believe the emails were a hoax because BofA has NEVER asked for credit card # and mailing address. Beware!

***This is regarding an OUTBOUND call that I made to Bank of America...***
I was on the phone with B of A discussing my checking account and because I also needed to discuss some issues with my automatic online bill payments, they said I needed to speak with the "Online Bill Payment Center" at 800-887-5749.
So I called it and immediately I just got the feeling that I wasn't speaking to someone at B of A. The representative was having trouble looking up my account so he asked for my credit card number (but not the 3-digit code on the back), checking account number, name, and address. This all seemed unusual to me since they normally do not ask for all these. But since I was calling the number that B of A gave me, I put my suspicions aside and provided this info.
The representative did find the data regarding my automatic online payments, and he did mention some items that nobody other than B of A would be able to access (or at least SHOULDN'T be able to access) unless he was on B of A's computers, so this made me feel a little bit better. Still, the way he spoke and the words he used didn't seem like standard B of A language.
I guess if I see a bunch of charges next month from Nigeria or Timbuktoo on the credit card # I gave him then I guess I'll know I was just hoodwinked by someone at a number that B of A told me to call.

I went to make a purchase on Daffys.com. A Bank of America Verified by Visa sign popped up. It seemed suspicious. I did not recall signing up for it and it was asking for personal information. The contact number provided was 1-800-887-5749. I did not proceed with the purchase and contacted the Bank of America - my bank. I was advised the number does not belong to Bank of America. I reported the incident.
