With rare exception, credit card debt dies along with the decedent. Your lawyer will in fact tell you this. When we notified AMEX of a death, they apologized for our loss, and sent a letter underscoring that sentiment. Never heard from them again, as the matter was settled. No need to send in a death certificate for AMEX.

Get several calls a week from this number. Damn fools.

Calling non-stop for months. I have blocked the call, still calling every day.

How do I get them to stop?

I've gotten several calls this past week asking for richard. No such person. Same person calls.

These people called, didn't leave a message, so I called back knowing what to expect.  They asked if I was a relative of my deceased boyfriend's deceased wife!!!!  Imagine that!  I said I didn't know who it was and they said they would remove my number from the list!

What SCAMMERS!  I knew the information about the unsecured debt being gone upon death but cannot believe that there are horrible people like this out there trying to scam people into paying what they don't owe.  If they want their money, THAT IS WHAT PROBATE IS FOR!

Hi, I too am in the same situation as you.  Luckily, I have a phone that can block calls, so that's what I do....I just add them to my "blocked calls" list.  I have learned that you DO NOT give these types of people any info about yourself because then they start coming after you when they find out there is no estate.  Legally, they cannot touch me and I know it and I guess they just think people in general are stupid and not well informed.  The money that has been spent trying to collect this tiny amount far exceeds the original debt.  It makes no sense to me....they'd be money ahead if they'd just write it off.

These rejects keep calling my phone even after I've told them repeatedly this isn't the number of the person they are looking for anymore. These morons should just send letters addressed to the individual who owes the debt, they always say they are removing my number and then call back two or three days later acting like I've never said BOO!

I am contacting my state Attorney General and filing a complaint! At the very least they people have a responsibility to MAKE CERTAIN they are not harassing innocent people!

No person should have to put up with these low-lives EVER.

What difference would it make if a DEBT COLLECTION agency is "respected" by the better business bureau?

They are a DEBT COLLECTION agency and that translates into plain english as SCUM!

They harrass people and give they certainly DO NOT simply remove your number even after you've told them a hundred times it's not the number of the people who owe the debt anymore.

This type of activity over the phone is MEANT to harass someone into paying an old debt. All too often they aren't even contacting the right person at all, that doesn't seem to matter to these rejects.

One day their asinine harassment will be illegal, it can't happen soon enough, these SCUMBAGS need to go out of business permanently!

LOL!!  I guess that shut him up!!  And as to trying to cooperate with these A**holes, I was contacted by them concerning my husband's estate (of which he had none) and filled out and sent back a form they sent me stating such AND after talking to them on the phone and they STILL harass me with constant phone calls.  I blocked their number, so I don't have to be bothered by them any longer.

I received a call regarding the estate of my EX-husband whom I divorced 23 years ago. It is not my debt and I am not responsible for the debt he incurred while he was alive! I plan on filing a police report regarding the harassing phone calls from this collection agency.  I also will not answer any calls that I can't identify on my caller ID.

My husband passed away a year ago...got a call from West Asset Mgt (after a year) ...the lady said her name was Debbie...She was rude and even threatened me a dead line. She told me that I was not responsible for my husbands debts, but that she wanted to settle and when I said that there wasn't anything, she began to ask if I had other credit cards that I could put the balances on...I'm on a small fixed income that my husband left me...there is no estate...there is no money!!! What part of this do they not understand!

I get calls from this number daily...sometimes several times a day.  I just pick up and immediately hang up the phone.  No conversation, no message, and no beeping phone from letting the answering machine get it.

I also received a call from the same people.  My husband passed away 7 months ago and even though they advised me I was not responsible for my husband's debts, they still wanted me to settle up.  I just told them there was no estate and no money which was the truth.  I am on social security which fortunately they cannot touch.  My condolences to you BA for the loss of your loved one.

This number calls me 3 times a day.  They want to know about my deceased father's estate.  Rather then answer, for the first couple weeks I just ignored it.  Today I answered in my fake phone reply "Stands hair salon, Jessica can I help you"  they asked about my father, I told him he had the wrong number.  We'll see if they call again.

Today for the umpteenth time, I received a call with the usual message. I finally decided to call back since I knew what it was about from having other mention the name/nature of the company. I explained very clearly and politely that there are NO ESTATE and NO ASSETS. I also told him getting these messages is very stressful and upsetting and to not call again. He verified my mailing address (he had it, I didn't volunteer it).

He stated he was required to ask a few questions so that he could clear this up. The answer to all of them was no...the questions were in reference to things like bank accounts, bonds, that sort of thing. He asked about probate and I told him that in my state probate wasn't required since my husband had nothing.

At no time did I apologize for there being no assets...I just stated that he left nothing. It's the truth.

He was courteous and did the ritualistic condolences bit...at least they are trained to do that. I hope this is the end of it.

Tomorrow marks 6 months since my husband died. It is as painful now as it was then.

Today they tried a new tactic. I recognize the 800-878-3317 number and do not answer. I let them leave their usual message. They called back immediately from a number that showed "unknown number" on the caller ID...again I didn't answer since the timing of a second call was just too obvious. The message has changed a little bit. Now they are looking "for the person who can pay the outstanding bills of ..."

Nice try but if I was left no money and I am NOT a co-owner of this credit card, they are out of luck.

No estate=no money. Credit card debt is unsecured debt. What part of NO MONEY don't they understand. I recognize the number and ignore it. I was quite surprised that they didn't call back one minute after the first call was ignored. That is their normal approach.

I get occasional calls from this number. Since I don't feel like arguing with them, I don't answer. They don't seem to understand there is "NO ESTATE". What doesn't exist can't be collected from. If they are still calling at the 1 year mark, I'll find a way to file a written complaint. The messages have been courteous and the most recent caller used the phrase "final affairs of" instead of "estate of". I know it is about a credit card that belonged to my late husband and I was not a co-owner of this card. He left no estate; therefore, they will need to write off the debt.

I agree, thank you for your reply. I've gotten alot of calls since spouse deceased, and some are nice and offer condolences but some are not even hearing what you say. Shame on them.

I got call's from this number for weeks at my office. don't know how they got my office number. They left a few messge's but couldn't identify themselves when I phoned back the 1st time. I stopped answering after that.  Call's continued until they some how got my home number and called at 8:30 am Sat. The guy said he was from West Asset Managment and asked for the person handling my dead mothers affairs. I was pissed and unloaded on the guy how pursistantly continued to ask for the person handling her affairs but wouldn't tell me what he wanted sighting HIPA.  He named several members of my family.  I think they are running a scam.  Despicable!  Told him never to call me again and so far they haven't.

This number called about a dead ex, and said they were looking for the people connected to his willl.
If they call again, I'll call the police.  So who ever you are I hope that you hear that.

Also got a call from this number about a dead relative.

@Colin - They may be legit but they should stop bothering people about dead relatives.

They called my aunt and got my number, as I represent my father's estate.  Now they are calling me.  They refused to say who they represent until I cite the MA laws, then they won't tell me specifically who the bill is for.  I told them they need to send me a bill IN WRITING or the judge won't settle it.  They "offer" to settle it outside the estate.  If they weren't playing idiot games, I might do that but now they need to talk to the judge (the estate is solvent).  Reported them to the MA AG for harassment.

They may be legit, but their tactics are illegal in the state that I live in.
