I was recently asked to adopt a child by the Children International when I was walking to the metro station. I thought it would be a good cause to sign up, and agreed to pay about $30 per month. After I signed the papers, the person from Children International told me that I just signed up for at least a two year contract. I wasn't given the information when I was asked to sign; I know I probably should have read their contract but it is hard to do when you're outside trying to get home. Anyway, if I fail to pay $30 per month for the next two years, could they report me to the collection agencies/ debt buyers which could ultimately ruin my credit history? Thanks.

Law dog, I think you don't know what you are talking about.

I checked out their business. They are a national organization.They have 6 offices. Main office is in Ca... other offices are in NY, TX, FL, PA and AZ. This is a very crafty company. They do attorney outsourcing. So they are off the hook in terms of licensing and bonds. They don't do any of the actual  dirty work so they have virtually no complaints with the BBB.They let the lawyers handle all the actual lawsuits. They have over 350 lawyers around the country in their network. I verified thru the  Martindale directory of Attorneys. They are also affiliated with over 2000 process servers! Debt buyers and collection agencies are using these guys to slam consumers with lawsuits in order to collect money. Not very nice guys but legal.  I will keep a lookout for more info and post it here.

This # does belong to Children International (children.org) and is a valid company.  I got 1 too and when I looked it up here I realized it's because my credit card expiration date was this month and I have my sponsor fee auto deducted from it.

I am pissed. I jus bought a new cell phone and I get a call from this number. I haven't given my number out to anyone. I hope this has not been a number used by someone else and I would be subject to their calls.

My search shows that the number belongs to a child sponsorship program called "Child International".
