It was NOT vancity.  It was someone CLAIMING to be vancity.

It might help if you didn't fall for the scammer's line.   If other people read what you said, they might actually think it is vancity and give away info like their credit card or banking info.

People should verify what they're putting on here.  I did.  Vancity has it's own marketing dept, doesn't use these 2nd party services, and told me it was indeed a scam.

For the other people here, please read with a "grain of salt".

Their phone number wasn't masked, but it was a toll free 1-800 number.  If you're talking about vishing in general, yes it's easy to either mask it or, worse, spoof the caller id to look like it came from your bank.

In this case, it wasn't masked at all.

Number has been calling our home phone a lot lately.
Never leaves a message.

I'm with Shaw Digital and apparently they have selective call blocking.
http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCare/Digital ... allBlocking.htm
Really easy to block the last call you received.
Can block up to 32 numbers.
And it's free!

This is not a REAL Vancity telemarketer.  I received it and called vancity, after they offered me a prize and said I have to verify my vancity account details.  I hung up, then phoned vancity. They looked into and it's a "toll" free number registered with Verizon (minex - sp?).  Obviously a scammer wanting account information or credit card numbers etc.   VanCity has reported the number to Verizon, but who knows if Verizon will actually DO anything about it.

Been getting this call 2-3 times a day for the last 3 days! Called Rogers to inform them of a scammer that is preying on their subscribers and costing minutes and money and they were uninterested in doing anything about it aside from upselling me a $5 / month service to block unwanted phone numbers...

... so there ya go.

I called Telus Privacy Request at 310-1000 & the lady said in order to do this, it's called view call, something like caller ID, but it takes about 24 hours to activate this, the lady will need your email address, and will confirm your name, or telus ID #(If you have it handy?), & your date of birth(DOB). She will then put you on hold for 3 minutes, now lady came back & says that for this service it's actually free for the first two (2) months, but that it costs $1.95 after that, it would be added to your service, but you would pay after two (2) months, in order to cancel this service, you would have to call in at telus 604-31-2255 & cancel if you decided to cancel. I thought about it, & no I don't think it's worth it. You pay when I was originally told it was free, so I did not get this service added to my services I have with telus.

thanks

I made a mistake on the telephone # that keeps on calling, it's actually 1-800-902-0506, NOT (1-800-902-0606).

Just follow the same protocols as per above. As well there is NO CHARGE to use this service from TELUS.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

If you receive a call from 1-800-902-0606 and you subscribe to TELUS, you can call Telus & have them block this #(1-800-902-0606) from calling you. If you need any further questions, please email me at guyvan2010@hotmail.com

Heres to everyone that has received a call from this bloody freaking #!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This company has been calling for the last 3 weeks.  They refuse to speak to my wife. They only demand to speak to myself.  They claim to be Vancity Customer Service.  After talking to my bank which is Vancity, they advised me that they DO NOT conduct business over the telephone. DO NOT give out any personal information.

These are the group of people who mask their phone number in order to try and get your credit card number.

They usually call from one area for a few weeks or so then move on to another area with a different phone number.

Whatever you do DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS!! like banking, your home address and especially your credit card number.

Called me three days in a row.No message. If it's so important to call me everyday, you'd think it would be important enough to leave a message.
Definitely curious about what they want. Not curious enough to answer an unknown number though.
