Don't deal with Toshiba if you don't want the S**t scared out of you. Customer service is rude, they forget to tell you that every order MUST HAVE A VERIFIABLE LAND-LINE PHONE NUMBER. They use reverse address number programs. No where in the web-site does it state that! ! ! The 800-916-7146 is a non-returnable call number on purpose according to them. I'm buying a Dell or Acer now.

Yes, It is Toshiba.  They were verifying that I was shipping the Laptop to an address that my name was not associated with.

This call itself is NOT a scam; they are simply calling to verify your shipping address if it differs from your billing address (I'm in grad school but my billing address is my parents' home in another city.) If they call you and you did NOT order a Toshiba laptop and wish to confirm an order, alert your credit card company. Call them back to confirm; simple as that. Don't call the other customer relations number, because it will take you 10x as long to speak to a human (who may or may not speak English intelligibly.)

Toshiba Direct called to verify a laptop ordered using my credit card and name - to be shipped to another  state - the shipping address did not match my charge address.  He left the order number and my name on my answering machine.

Toshiba Direct experiences daily fraud, so they are verifying every order. Whoever this fraudster was they were trying to ship laptops to Hutchinson PA. Somehow they had acquired my home address, tel, name and cc #.

If you ASK Toshiba will give you the last digits of the credit card number the fraudster provided, then call that credit card company to report it!!

I ordered a Toshiba laptop online today. They called from this number and confirmed I ordered it online. Their call was a security step to insure I actually made the purchase online.

Something is wrong here.
I called back, and did not give the "order" number,
just immediately asked what this was about, ...
I never ordered anything from Toshiba.
They said,
" Ok, Have a nice day", and hung up.
They did not ask for my name, or "order" number.
I would think that a real company would want to
correct any problems.
Just sayin'.

It is Toshiba.  The caller is not scamming you.  You still should never give out personal information to an incoming caller but no one from this number would ask for it.  I ordered a laptop and had it shipped to work so the shipping address did not match the billing address.  They call a number they have on file to make sure some one isn't trying to use my credit card to order.  The blogger saying they didn't order is saying someone is trying to order using their credit card so it's actually a good thing that they call.  However, if you got this call and did not order anything from Toshiba you should check with your credit card company and your credit report.  Also, call Toshiba and get details of the order so you can give that information to your credit card company.  If someone is trying to commit fraud they might try other means as well.

Same thing happened to me, this is a legit Toshiba number. they are calling to verify an order if the shipping address does not match billing. They will tell you the last 4 digits of the account used for the order. In my case I had previously been contacted by the card company indicating my data had been stolen and they had already issued a new card so if Toshiba had tried to process the order the purchase would have been denied anyway.

This is a true Toshiba Direct number. I received the same call from Toshiba saying they would like to verify the shipping address since the laptop we ordered (we did NOT) was going to Kentucky & we live in another state.  This was a credit card fraud attempt by the person(s) that ordered the laptop in KY by using our old credit card number (cancelled 1 mo earlier) - not by the Toshiba customer service caller.  I alerted my credit card company immediately.

A man called to say he was with Toshiba and was callig to verify a laptop I had ordered to be shipped to another town in the state where I live and that tne shipping address did not match my charge address.  He even gave the order number. It is a scam!  If you get one, alert your credit card company!!
