So is it the caller's job to violate the FDCPA?  What about all the people reporting they are being called looking for someone else entirely?  Are they supposed to be "responsable" and pay too?  Anyway, why are you responding to a thread that had been dead for 8 months?

I'm going to say something, these companies work with call centers, So do not think that the caller get your number so easy, hospitals or places where you owe money, give the debtor data to this company for them to take charge of collection, if they call you many time if because they sometimes only have one number, and you didn't asnwer or you don't do any thing for pay your bill, so if they call you many time is because they sometimes only have one number, and you didn't answer or you don't did any thing for pay your bill, so be responsable and pay,and do not blames the callers, they only do they job

"United Collection" comes up on the caller ID. They have called many times and since my husband and I don't carry any debt whatsoever, I figured they were suspicious/fraudulent and never picked up. Today they finally left a voicemail. Someone named Stephanie at extension 48824 is looking for my husband's ex. Sheesh! They divorced 20 years ago! And since they had no children, they have had absolutely no contact in all that time. How this "agency" got my husband's current info is scary. We're not going to track her down for them! Sounds like UCB is willing to harass ANYONE remotely connected to the debtor. Sounds like illegal tactics to me.

Don't want calls from this number??.. pay your bills. Welcome to the real world. It could be worse. Instead of pesting phone calls for a balance owed.. you could have a loan shark beating down your door to take you out at the knees. Lol. Make the best of it :)

My mother received several calls from these people telling her to "grow up" and that they were going to sue us for the money that she owed.  These people never said who they were calling for and we are not in the red with anyone.  We finally called these people back today and gave them the reference number and found out that they were calling the wrong number.  I wanted to see how stupid these people were and kept inquiring about the account.  They provided me with the account balance, number, name, and phone number of the person in question.  I don't plan on using this infromation for anything, but I think it's pretty irresponsible for this type of company to be handing out peoples information, especially when they called the wrong people.

Got a call from my neighbor tonight saying someone called and left a message with her for my husband to call them back.  Seriously, how screwed up is it that they can call your neighbor!?  Anyways, I went through all our caller ID numbers and this company has NEVER tried to call us here at home, so they went straight to our neighbors.  That's just wrong on a whole lot of levels. Neighbor said it sounded like she said her name was Ms Selix, but she's also elderly and thought the lady said something about a cat, so it's hard to say.

Being a "real company" doesn't justify breaking the law.  If you break the law, it's a scam.  What else is a scam is that the paid pennies on the dollar to acquire the accounts.

This company UCB called my parents house in NJ to get in contact with me. Fortunately my dad didn't give any information but he was worried that something had happened to me. The woman spoke perfect Spanish and gave the name Pillar. She gave my dad a case number had instructed him to tell me to call them. That when I decided to check them out online first. I was not surprised to find out that it was a scam. I just want them to stop calling my parents.

Received 2 msgs both from 800-925-9043. A woman named; Lynn Williams (bogus I'm sure as all other names given here) was calling looking to relay an urgent msg to my brother regarding "a time sensitive matter". Left ext #: 63813 and a reference #. This is really considered harassment and am sick of these companies get away with this crap!! Why can't anyone step in to monitor the work ethics and practices of these companies? Damn!!! >:[

A Mr. Lawrence Pool called saying he needed to speak with me about a non-profit organization that I had in the past. He said he was from a government agency. He got off the phone quickly when I called him and was short with him and said he was really looking for someone else.

I received a call from United through a different 800 no. A mrs. Eastman wanted me to verify that whether xxxx were the correct last four digits of my social and whether x/x/x was my correct date of birth. When I refused she became angry and said I was involved in a fraud suit. Very strange.

We got a similar call today too!  How do they get our phone numbers!  I don't even know my neighbor that well and certainly not enough to relay a collections message!

I received a call from this number asking for me to get a message TO MY NEIGHBOR!! I thought I'd look it up and found this blog. I don't even know this man who may or may not live in my condo complex, but how bizarre that they would call my home to relay a message to call them. Sounds very shady to me.

Yes, this number seems to be from United Collections Bureau. I've received several calls from a Ms. Abby Quinn (in fact, she called me 3 times within 15 minutes at work) who identifies herself as being with "United Bureau" in the messages. But when you call the number, the receptionist answers "UCB" - and Ms. Quinn identified herself as being form "United Collections Bureau" (finally, the truth!) when I finally answered one of her calls. The first message she left was friendly-sounding enough but her other three messages turned progressively more and more threatening. Then, when I finally spoke to her in person, her true colors came through and she was totally belligerent. In fact, when I asked her to verify the debt that she was calling about in writing (as collection agencies are legally obligated to do under The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act), she REALLY started yelling, threatening to "totally embarrass [me] by serving [me] in front of [my] whole crew! [MY] WHOLE CREW!!!" - and then hung up on me.

This firm seems to have quite a reputation for being horrendous bullies who operate an operation with a fair share of illegal practices. (Go to www.ripoffreport.com and search for United Collections Bureau to read more.)

Oh yeah - they were hired by CITIBANK to collect a comparatively small debt. CITIBANK should be totally ashamed of themselves for using the gangster tactics of such a disreputable firm.

was left a message from a Veronica Smith who says I'm involved in a pending civil suit.  Today she again left me a message about how urgent it was for me or my lawyer to contact her.  This might be someone from collections, but she identifies herself as being from some UNited Bureau
