Salvation Army calling asking for donations. This is the 3rd call in 3 months. I understand non-profit organizations can call my cell phone but each call costs me....I have prepaid minutes. I despise telemarketing.

The number that was left on my phone 800 958 7835 answers Salvation Army. Their offices are closed.
Why are they calling? Donations of clothes etc. or money?.
I am with the other replies why are they stooping this low as to do telemarketing? I would never donate to anyone over the phone. How do you know who is legit and who are scammers? Shame on the Salvation Army.

Recorded pitch from Salvation Army for donation of cars, boats, etc.

Oh come on! Why would the Salvation Army call with this request? If it really was them, wouldn't they display their caller ID? This is someone else with an agenda of their own.

I just called the Salvation Army at 1-800-958-7825, went through the phone tree and got a live person who said she would formard our phone number to remove us from the robocalls. Hopefully it will work.

Never NEVER again will I donate to Salvation Army. Besides being homophobic and discriminatory, they are robo calling me after I have told them numerous times to stop calling me. Screw them!
Jay MK 2013-08-16 05:00:34 Unknown
This is solid and helpful advice. I use 800notes to see if others have had a call and if so, I block the number forever. By the way, don't blame Salvation Army - they probably don't even know the slimy caller is using Salvation Army's name.
Walt 2013-06-08 21:43:02 Unknown
Whoever called didn't leave a message. Sure hope it isn't the Salvation Army. If it is, I must examine if I would continuing donating to the Salvation Army since I am opposed to ANY form of telemarketing whether commercial or non-profit.

It does not violate the DNC list since only callers trying to sell goods or services are covered by the DNC list. It also may not violate the robo call rule if a live agent answers when the called party picks up. Showing incorrect Caller ID may be the only violation here and that may depend if that is how the data was actually sent of if your local phone company does not display the data correctly. I receive calls from my local Medical Center that come up as Unknown Out of Area because the local phone company misinterprets the data being sent.
John 2013-06-03 16:47:59 Unknown
Really? These things are easy to deal with? You enjoy being interrupted all the time with stupid phone calls?

800-958-7825...They didn't say who they were...When I answered I used what was on the CID "Toll Free" Saying, "It's your dime", and they hung up on me. If it is the Salvation Army...they are stooping to the lowest level of live, lower than slime in a gutter, "Telemarketing". Shame on them. I thought they were better than that

Just called left robo message about a donation event at a local market this afternoon. Unfortunate they can't see way clear to identify themselves in advance. I might have answered this call, since name shows as unavailable didn't answer. And notification is too little, too late.

We are on the DNC list, and the call violates both the list and the robo call prohibition. Suspect this is a business the Salvation Army has farmed out solicitations. Then again, it could be done in name of the SA, for identity theft. Caller id said TOLL FREE CALLE, so it may be fraud. Be careful giving any information over the telephone.

Caller ID said "Toll Free Caller". There was a recorded message from the Salvation Army.
To file complaints go to:
For fun, here is a site to get recorded phone messages to download to your computer, and then play when a telemarketer calls. For example, the message will tell them that their phone has been disconnected, or that they will be charged $1.50 for tracing a call, or that your phone automatically rejects anonymous calls.

Just found 4 calls with no message for this phone number on my call log while I was at the gym. That's four calls in 35 minutes! Don't know if they were robocalls. If charities are using robocalls, I want them to be INCLUDED among those entities that must follow the DNC list rules. Call/write the FTC or FCC. NO ROBOCALLS from politicians, charities, scammers, fraudsters, criminals, INDIA, or UFOS either.

I don't know what phone number is calling me but I'm getting weekly robocalls from the Salvation Army. How do I get them to stop? Who do I complain to? I called the local SA office but it was closed. I left a message but doubt that they will get back to me.
Worthy Organization 2012-04-18 17:10:39 Unknown
Really? You'd waste their fuel (time is donated by volunteers/those in recovery)?
Seems a bit harsh... cut 'em some slack -- they are willing to come to your door to collect items you don't want or need anymore. Saves YOU gas...
FYI, charities (and political organizations) are exempt from compliance with the National Do Not Call Registry, so you do indeed need to ask them directly.
Had Enough 2012-04-07 23:06:00 Non-profit Organization
Have received multiple calls from the Salvation Army in recent weeks, and when I don't pick up the phone, a recorded message is left on my machine telling me how to arrange for pick up of donated items.
I have call blocking, but AT&T has a recording that says the number is in correct when I attempt to add the number to my blocked call list. So I called the Salvation Army and asked to have my number removed from their automated dialing list. The person on their end said it would be taken care of. We'll see....
In the meanwhile, here is my suggestion, and what I plan to do if I get any additonal calls from them. I am going to place a pick up order every time I get a call from them. There will be nothing for them to pick up. Let them waste their time and fuel, and we'll see if that gets them to mend their ways!

Two calls within 15 minutes. REALLY?!!?!?!?!?!?!??!?! This is going to get reported to someone.
Bobby 2012-02-16 01:56:14 Unknown
I'm amazed at the number of people who do no know charities are exempt from the Do Not Call list. They can call all they want. Surely most everyone has caller id. If you don't recognize the number, don't answer.
Fedup 2012-02-09 14:45:11 Unknown
Received a call from this number at 8:19 p.m last night and did not answer. The DNCR does not work and it's a big waste to "report" the calls. Basically if the DNCR were working, this site wouldn't exist. Try contacting your local television news station and get them to research the DNCR failure and robo calling technology. The phone companies need to be fined heavily for providing this service of robo calling. If the media were to broadcast the negatives about the DNCR, I'm sure that legislation would quickly amend the DNCR and plug up the holes that allow marketeers and scammers to get away using robo calling. Politicians want to look good folks!

Also from the "Salvation Army"....Curious, I called the real Salvation Army. They do not use or allow this type of call....Another scam....

woohoo FRAN! Tell it like it is! Didn't even know they made phones with Call Blocking - but will be buying one right away! Thanks for the best info. I've seen from anyone so far. ps: I had no idea I could do that on my cell phone to stop a telemarketer from ringing through. You can bet i"ll be using that trick right away. thanks again Fran!

Look, I happen to love the Salvation Army and what they do for people, but........
The first thing everyone needs to get throught their heads is that the DoNotCall, doesNOTwork! After all these years of getting the same calls over & over again and eveyone saying "but I'm on the DNC list" and sending in complaints to DNC, but yet NOTHING ever happens, try the steps below.
At least TRY to stop the calls yourself. Here are easy 1,2,3 steps to take.
1) Buy a Home phone with Call BLOCKING functions and use it. Maybe as these types of phones start flying off the shelves in record numbers and the phone manufacturers see the demand for them, they'll make even more of them and give the ability to Block even more numbers in them.
2) Call your local Phone Company & see if they have a Call Blocking service. If so, sign up for it!
3) On Cell Phones, put the number into your Contacts under SCAM or whatever, and then SET the Ringtone to NO RING or SILENT!
Ta da! They won't ever be able to ring through and bother you again. If you see them in your Cell phone List and you didn't even know they had called, CONGRATULATIONS!! You have now fixed it yourself!
Do NOT ever call them back, even if it seems like an innocent Recording that says 'this is a non-working number' or whatever.
Do NOT bother telling them to put you on their 'Don't call list'. Guess what? They don't really have one! And seeing they're calling ILLEGALLY in the first place, don't waste your breath.
Do NOT talk to them at ALL, just HANG UP!
BLOCK them, and go on with your life.
If you're worried that it could be a Legitimate company trying to contact you, then wouldn't you think they'd have your Address and you'd have gotten a letter from them??
P.S. NEVER call back a number listed on a questionable letter, either! ALWAYS look it up yourself and be sure you're calling the REAL company, not just any old number given to you in a letter!!!!!!! And don't contact the email address they give you, either!!!
It's a Felony to send anything through the U.S. mail that's bogus, but by the time you've called the number that they listed, or logged onto a website they gave you, and given them all your personal info. to supposedly 'verify that it's really You', - they've already stolen your Identity and your Bank account money, etc.!! By the time you figure it out, your wallet is emptied, and you can complain to the Feds all you want..... but by then your Identity and money is long GONE!

I received a robo-call originating from the Salvation Army with this number (my caller ID identified this number as being from "800 Service".) Since this call was the second robo-call from them in only two weeks time I immediately called back this time around and requested that the representative add my number to their internal do-not-call list. She didn't seem too thrilled but said she would forward my request to her supervisor.
