A message from front door intercom for someone not at this residence. She left a local ph# claiming to be from RevCan. her number 604-619-7581. Left a name, too. Dialled back again and just breathed into intercom. Freaky!
Because of crime in area, we have a policy of not answering if someone is not expected or are home and just don't hear it.

Got this same phishy calls and did not share any info. So I looked up the real CRA number and phoned them (general inquiries line). They looked into my account. No money owing, no issues. Gave them the numbers left by the scammers (800 959-2250 and 866-538-6181) the real CRA agent took some time to look up the numbers and said they were not CRA numbers and that it all sounded suspicious.
My gut feeling tells me these calls are a scam. If they are not a scam, then CRA has only itself to blame for a poorly thought-out system. In this day and age nobody gives out such personal info to random callers or is foolish enough to phone unlisted numbers left by persons unknown. Letters and registered letters as follow up would be less problematic. I will call the CRA again on a real listed number to triple check and ask for any record of any branch of the CRA calling. I doubt the results of this follow up call will be any different from the first.

LOUISE IS A SCAMMER. Note the fear-mongering technique. If you are really worried, look up the REAL CRA number and deal with REAL CRA agents, not mystery callers. Never give these mystery callers your info and never call any of these numbers they leave.

"CRA employee" IS A SCAMMER. He neither works for the CRA, nor is he employed. He is on here to reinforce the scam along with several others.

"SARAH" IS A SCAMMER. "She" is using a scare tactic to reinforce this scam. If you are actually worried, look up the real CRA numbers yourself or visit the nearest real CRA office. Never give your SIN (or any info) to anyone who calls and never call back the scammer phone numbers they give you.
CRA always sends letters (watch out for fakes). By the way these scammers spoof call display so it shows up as GOC and displays a legit number even though they are calling from a different number.

ROLLY IS A SCAMMER who knows perfectly well that they are spoofing the GOC on the call display. They can display Government of Canada and a legitimate phone number on call display even though they are calling from some cockroach infested rented room from God knows where, hoping their families never find out what they REALLY do for a living. Next time you scammers phone me, how about having the call display list it as THE EASTER BUNNY? It would be just as believable.

A real CRA employee would never call for the removal of an RCMP officer. Only a scammer would as part of another sorry-a$$ lie to cover his scam. CRA sends letters (watch out for phony ones). If you're really afraid about back taxes etc, just book an appointment with a real CRA agent at your local tax office.

Ps  Born and raised in Ottawa and have several family members who really do work for CRA.

I got a call from 1800 959-2250/ They were asking to verify my address and SIN. They said theay are from CRA.
I did not provide this info and asked them to send me out in a written form whatever they need to say over the phone.
They gave me this numbr to call them back with SIN available.

I called CRA they said that they would never request my SIN to verify whether it's me or not.

The only time they will requets if you called them to question your income tax etc.

This is legit. I was called and given the number to call them back, which I verified and did call them at 18009592250. I had missed a tax installment payment at the 1st of the month and they were calling to make a new arrangement.  
You don't want these guys knocking at your door, better to get it sorted out and call back!

Yes, I thought it was suspicious too as the caller refused to give me an employee number. I told them that I would call the CRA myself. I looked up the number online, called the CRA directly and they said that there was no reason that they would have called as my account was up-to-date.  This is likely a scam.

If you are unsure, don't give out personal info over the phone. Call back using a number you look up yourself to be certain you are speaking to the correct people.

I just got one of those calls, and they wanted my address and date of birth.  I'm not expecting anything from CRA, I have no outstanding arrears, I have not filed my taxes for this year.  No reason for them to call...in the past, anything from CRA is in a letter.  The head of audit is my next door neighbor - I'll confirm with him.

This is a legitimate number from the CRA. You can call 1-800-OCANADA to verify it. I just had a call and told them I would call them back, I verified the number 1800-959-2257 with OCANADA, and called back and talked with someone who had legitimate information about my small business (HST number was what they asked for). All worked out now.

did you know that you can find false police reports online all the time.

The CRA does require your SIN number to access your information so you do have to give it to them over the phone.

Finally.  If the Canada Revenue Agency calls your house that is because you owe the government money

This number is legitimate.  It is the number for the Canada Revenue Agency.. CRA for short.

If you were to call any government number you will most likely get someone with a strong accent.  Not many people that work for the governement are full english speaking people.

If you do not feel comfortable giving your information to the person that calls you on the phone from that number than just call 1800 o cannada

Thank you for sharing your experience. I've received the same message and ask me to call back with SIN available ( the guy has a very strong accent. I'm glad I'm checking on-line before doing anything).

RCMP should tracking this case to protect people from losing their confidential information.

This is indeed a scan and anyone who says otherwise is part of the scam. Do not be fooled. Do not give out any information by phone. Canada Revenue Agency communicates in writing.

I agree with all the messages about "Scam." Revenue Canada Agency's auditors are now using these number. They create scheme to make it legit and use these numbers to call their victims to collect the payment. They are now chasing after small business people. The propose audit but they don't do audit. They check how much money you have in your bank account. Then they make calculations using fictitious numbers to make it close (less or more) than the amount you have in your bank account. So they want to clean up your bank account. They make all the papers look legit. They give you 90 days to file an appeal. As soon as they send you the paper work that seems legit, they use these numbers to start asking you to pay. When you write to the Appeal Office, they still ask you to pay but will postpone the process for 6 to 9 months. Crap... Revenue Canada officials are now robbing small business people! Their work seem legitimate though. Watch out!
