Got a call today 7/25/13 with person saying same thing, sounded official giving name and ID number  even gave me a date that he supposedly spoke with the person from our company.  The twist was the person had signed up for the "service" in 2011. 2011/2012 was free but there was a charge for 2013. Needed someone to "authorize" the bill.

Exact same thing happened to me today, 6/25/2013. This is outrageous.  They wouldn't give me a fax number, wouldn't allow me to cancel the account unless the $600 is paid and wouldn't give me an account #, and ...

Receptionist received a call from PATRICK at  "Business Yellow Pages" and they said that Mr. X from our company called to cancel the advertising listing and that she would need to call today to cancel the ad.  When she called the number (800-970-3483) they asked if she was able to pay invoices, she said no and was told to have that person call back.  She was told there was a $600. fee to cancel.  In the meantime, Patrick calls back and was very insistent that our receptionist must authorize the cancellation or else the ad will run and we will be responsible for payment.  I got on the phone and told Patrick that the person authorized to handle advertisig was not in and if I could have the number, I would have her call.  He said that he gave the number to the receptionist and when I tried to get the number again, he hung up.  I contact Mr. X in our company and he said he did not call to cancel any advertising.  100% sure this is a scam.
