got called today, I'm in the 416 area code in Toronto.

Answered and same here, no one on the other line.

I heard certain automated machines call numbers to check if there's anyone to respond on the other side. Once someone responds, they add them to a list of numbers and send that number to telemarketers.

I haven't found anyway to combat this. Some people claim if you hold a digit on your phone, it supposedly screws with their system.

They called my cell today and did not leave a message.

They called me on my cell in Toronto on Nov 24, 2009 at 5pm and nobody was on the line.

this number also called our home but no message left. its got 290 290 801 821 5981. i am tracing it also why there is 290 290 before it.

Called me today at my home number, which is vbuzzer.com VoIP one.
After reading comments here I've submitted the detailed complaint at the lnnte-dncl website.

Pre-recorded message quality was too poor to understand the company name, but it said that it was Bettie calling from [such and such] limited. Moving services, blah-blah-blah...

Called the Toronto number and requested they remove my home phone number from their calling list.   Also told the woman I had again reported them to CRTC.
416-848-8891 is Toronto number

Called the company spoke to Albert asked politely asked him to remove my number. These are coming to my work number so I can leverage the legal side of he business if they keep up.

BTW He just answered the phone "hello" that's the way to run a business.

Called me on Sunday which is today am on DNCL Canada I love reporting these people

And all of you should also! We can't send a message to these scum bags if we don't collectively send complaints.

It takes 5 minutes...or you can be bothered for months 1 minute at a time ..choice is yours

They can be used for public service reasons by police and fire departments, schools and hospitals. They can also be used for appointment reminders and thank you calls.

called 09/29 when I answered...just space on the other line...I also live in Toronto

They left a message saying they are doing a survey about small business grants.  For more info I was to press "1".  I am poor.  Why would they call me?  The name on the caller I.D. says, "208  208."  I'm sure it's bull.

Called this evening.  I didn't answer.

A company called "Matevis Logistics Ltd." telephoned me in Toronto today - call back number in the recorded message(416-848-8891.  I registered a complaint with Canada's Do Not Call List.

Also on Canadian DNC list. Same recorded message as previous posters. Didn't wait long enough to get the call back number. Anyone want to report it to CRTC?

Called on my cell in Toronto. No body spoke for a while and then a recorded message came on. Same Anna from moving company. But the Caller ID (18018215981) displayed is different than call back number in the recorded message(416-848-8891). I am on Canadian DNC.

Its McTavish moving company who is already being charged with ignoring the do not call list here in Canada.  I know because I'm charging them.  Did the whole affidavit with the CRTC thing in early June.  Now these same butt-pods start up again.  Time to start firebombing I think.

Called me in Toronto as well, with a local number for call back, which doesn't accept calls without your number being sent. Local Toronto number is 416-848-8891, for a company called "Matevis Logistics Ltd.". (aka: "Best Price Movers Ltd." "MacTavish/McTavish (sp?) Logistics Limited")
It was a recorded message offering moving services with two guys starting at $55/hr.
These guys keep changing the name & number of their company.
A few years ago I had hired them to move my apartment, (Poor choice).
They quote 1 price, show up (late), force you to sign the credit card slip IMMEDIATELY before ANY work. They are so slow (billing by the hour). I did most of the moving myself. They then hold 1 or 2 pieces of furniture hostage on the truck unless you pay more. I really should have suspected when they offered, real cheap, a washing machine that was already on the truck. I really should have called the cops. I told them finish the move, then we'll see about a tip. probably about a 30 minute standoff.
Moral of the story: Hire movers that friends/family have used before and recommend!

They call me too. Because I didn't know the long distance #, I didn't say anything - hoping they/the machine would catalog it as an inactive number. After about a minute and a half it just disconnected. (I hope it worked.)

Just for the record my iphone recognized it as a number from Morgan, Utah.

Received a call today at 1:45 pm.  There was only dead air.  I found their website and the Toronto number - I called and left a message asking them to remove me from their list.  I also registered a complaint with the do not call list.

Called me several times(on Do Not Call List). Same scam, Betty from Florida Moving. COde 284 284 1-801-821-5981

They left an automated message "Betty" on our machine, somewhat garbled about moving services.  Strange the display showed 291 291. They never stop calling and they use 2 different phone numbers:  801-821-5981 on the display and 416-848-8891 call back on the voice message.

Stay away from these clowns and will post under both phone numbers to warn others.

I have received 2 calls in the last two weeks.  I've registered a complaint with the CRTC about the unsolicited call.  Message left on voicemail saying "Betty" calling from McTavish Logistics Limited.  Ph: 1-801-821-5981.
