Does anyone have the call-back number they are giving?  That's a start. As well as a list of the numbers they're calling from.
Has anyone had them spell out the name of their company? ... is the "and" the word "and" or is it "&"?
Try asking for the lead attorney's name.
All of this information will help the agencies track them down...if they can get a pattern.
Also, listing very close to exactly what they are telling you.
--The name of the company,
--the "department" name you're given,
--the name of person you are given as the caller
--the phrases they use

If you've just had enough of it, and don't care if they get reported and shut down, then you can try the following.  I used it with a company that was illegally harassing me about a non-existent debt.  These people also refused to give out info beyond the name of the company, a call-back number, and a case number.  They preferred to attempt to intimidate and scare people.

SCENARIOS:
They call, you recognize the # (probably to say "legal documents to deliver")?You answer the phone, they ask for the person (maybe) ?BEFORE THEY HAVE TIME TO SAY ANYTHING ELSE you tell them the information you REQUIRE:
You: What is the
1-Company name,
2-Company address
3-Local telephone number of your company AND
4-Name of company?s CEO/President's name
5-What is your CCA#

Them: "Well, we don't give that out for 'security reasons.'  "
You: "I'm sure you will appreciate that, FOR SECURITY REASONS, until I AM GIVEN THE INFORMATION I REQUIRE, NOTHING you say is of ANY interest to me.  Good bye." and hang up
****

They call, you recognize the #, this one is probably a "call from an attorney's office":
1-Name of Attorney's office
2-Address of Attorney office
3-Local phone number of Attorney office
4-Name of Lead Attorney on the case
5-Bar # and State the Attorney is licensed in.
*************

They call, apparently from a 1-000-000-0000 or PRIVATE number ? this one seems to be the ?Agent ---? to tell you there is a FEDERAL warrant for your arrest UNLESS you pay RIGHT NOW?if you do, then they can pull the warrant.  [Yeah, right.]
The information you REQUIRE:
1-Name, rank, BADGE number
2-Name of Law Enforcement entity they?re with
3-Unit/Department/Division of the Law Enforcement entity they?re with
4-Address and main switchboard number of that entity
5-Name of Head of the Unit/Department/Division they?re calling from
So you can call the person back AFTER verifying ALL the information given, and they can continue the conversation.  (roflol, as you can imagine, they?re not going to give ANY of that info out either ? probably ?for security reasons.?)
*****

***********The history of the company calling me was to say, "We don't give that out for 'security reasons.'  "  [Now, mind you, WHO is 'in love' with the IRS?  But they give out their address!]
You:  [chuckle] "Well, then you will understand why I don't speak to anyone calling my number that won't FULLY AND PROFESSIONALLY identify themselves ... FOR SECURITY REASONS!  Good day!" and hang up!

If they call back, answer the phone with: "Are you ready to provide me with the INFORMATION I REQUIRE?"
If they start saying ANYTHING other than the information YOU REQUIRE, HANG UP.

This may be a situation of "shampoo, rinse, repeat" a few times, until they figure out YOU MEAN BUSINESS AND NO MEANS NO!

I am receiving calls and the same messages stating there were pending 2 fraudulent charges against me in association with my name and social. They said there would be a summons me at employment or residence with a case number. I would like to know what they are talking about when I call back. they hung up. I was told to just blocked their number.  Other people within my area are receiving the same calls, too.
How do I report this harassing phone calls.

I have filed a complaint with the FTC, the Washington state Attorney generals office and the FBI.. I specifically asked them to not call me at work and gave them my cell phone number.  They told me that they would remove my work number from the automated service, they called my cell phone and them call the main line number at my work again.  And left my file number on the voicemail, I hate these people.

If everyone of you who received calls from this place would fill out a complaint on line with the FTC explaining to them what is going on they can be stopped.  I have done this already.  Just need to get a name of a company for them to check on.  They will not give it to me, and they apparently have an unlisted number so their name does not appear.  The lady I talked to at the FTC agreed that they need to be stopped for the collection practices.  The only way this will happen is if we all file complaints.  It is free and our tax dollars pay for this service.  Please take some time to do this.  What these people are doing is wrong and so off the mark from what a collection agency should be doing.  They are making things up and trying to scare people into paying money that they may not owe.

Please do this.  I am only one person complaining.  You can also contact you State Attorney Generals office and file a complaint because you have rights in you state as well.  I have also done this.

Together we can stop the people in their tracks.

(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

I posted a couple of days ago. After they called my numbers, they called my sister, who lives 2000 miles away from me. She freaked out, worried I was going to get in trouble, PAID SOME SORT OF REDUCED BILL VIA HER VISA. She was told this was a payday loan from 2008. I immediately had her call her credit card company and stopped the payment and had a new card issued. I don't know where they get their information, but they have a lot of it. I haven't had a checking account since the late 90's, so there isn't anyway I could get a payday loan. I'm trying to figure out how to get this to go away. It sounds like their M.O. is to keep harassing and embarrassing people until they pay for them to go away. I'm seriously P.O.'d.

They can be "busted" for multiple violations of the FDCPA - giving personal information to people other than the person they are looking for, threatening arrest, refusing to give their company name and address, refusing to mail documentation of the debt to the alleged debtor - that's just for starters.

It is NOT legal to give your information to a third party (secretary).   There are many other phone numbers dealing with this scam and the caller is violating several laws.  Do not give them the time of day!!!  Go back to page 1 of this number and read "Alfalfa's" comments about the law.  That should help - and show it to your boss and receptionist.  This is a scam & they won't give out a phone number!! That's a red flag in itself.

These people have been calling my main line work phone number and leaving voice-mail's and messages with the receptionist.  Telling her my case number and saying that if I do not call them back on that day they are going to come to my work, is that legal to leave my personal information with someone other than myself?  I called them today to tell them to stop calling me, they said I am being sued by a online pay day loan company called 10 dollar pay day.  I asked her the name of the company that she was calling me from and she told me Goldman and Associates and came me a phone number of 206-430-5407 completely different phone number than the one that has been calling me and the one I called.  I asked for their address and she refused to give it to me, she said they they dont give it out due to the amount of threats the company receives.  She wanted me to give her my bank information and make a 50 dollar payment today.  The pay day company has been calling me and harrasing me for months, I have over 100 voicemails from the screaming at me and telling me that only god can help me.  Classy

I suspected this was a scam/spam call, so decided to try to verify the number and found this site :)

"They" (a recording) called me yesterday and today saying that 2 cases had been filed against me in my county--looks like fraudulent activity has been attached to my name and social security number. They needed to make me aware of my legal rights to address my charges prior to them being filed against me and I needed to do so before I received my summons at my place of employment or my home address, and that once I was served, my rights would be forfeited. They gave me a case #, too.

If this was really coming from the county I live in, I would not be told to contact a long distance number!!

I got a call from them yesterday at both the work and cell#'s and then again today.

I used to work as a bill collector (LEGITIMATELY) and know the laws, etc. NOT once did they ID as a collection agency and every time I asked them to tell me what type of business they are and their address, they refused to do so.

I spoke to 2 of these shysters and just tried to flesh them out. They said I owed $370.00 from something in a state that I NEVER EVER lived in. I told them to DO NOT call my cell or work number EVER again-Hopefully they won't-we'll see.
