This call informed me to forward an affidavit  number to my lawyer concerning a Civil Investigation within 24  to 48 hours in Florida.  They gave me phone number  (803-656-0787) in South Carolina (Columbia, Rock Hill) to call.

I ignored the call because if were truly an affidavit, it would have come legally at my address because number one they should have my address, and number two they must present an affidavit copy to you prior to court proceedings.  Besides, I've never even dealt with anyone or anything in South Carolina. What a scam!

This number has called me numerous times on my cell phone as well as on my Mom's house phone. They are using a last name that I had changed over 7 years ago. Telling me about a restraining order and that I need to go to court and contact my attorney. When I called back the first time they put me on hold. I hung up and researched the number. Found out it was fake. Just a scam and the company they said they were is actually located in Massachusetts, not SC....Scam. I just wish I knew how to get them to stop calling me!

A man answered and could not provide any information about the bank he said that I owned. When I said he was probably in Nigeria trying to scam money he laughed and hung up the phone.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

They have called multiple times with a scary message about a civil lawsuit pending. We spoke with someone and they informed us that we owe money and were fraudulent from a credit card from several years ago. I credit card that we have never had! We have never recived anything in writing from these people only repeated phone calls. They somehow even got and contacted my father in law as well. The scary part was that they had my husbands information. it is a scam, I think to scare people into paying $.They told my husband that if we didn't pay, we would be served, he said that to go ahead and serve us, they hung up

I received the same message and I called them back and they said I had owed a on a credit card from 7 years ago and I could either set up payments or be served with papers for a lawsuit.  I had my lawyer call them back and they were very elusive. When my lawyer said that it was against the law to threaten a lawsuit as a creditor he could barely speak and she also told them that the statue of limitations to collect a debt is over.  Then they have bothering my family looking for me.  My next call is to the attorney general in NY.

Sigh of relief.  This number called my ex-husbands parents whom I haven't spoke with in years, and my ex and I have been divorced for 12 years.  This number left the same exact message that all of the above had.  After calling the number, I pushed "3" and waited on hold for 1/2 hour.  Thank God I got online to track the number and find out this is a scam.  I was truly terrified!!! This is a crime and these people should be prosecuted.  I wish I could put a restraining order on them!

Got the same call. Called the number got some info. Turns out they are trying to collect on a Visa card I never had in 2007. The card was supposedly opened under my maiden name. They said they had a copy of my license and signature that was used to open the card. The info just wasn't adding up since I was married in 2003 and my license would have had my married name on it in 2007. I called back the next day to get an address to send a Debt Validation Letter to. The lady hung up on me. So I called back. I got into an argument with the guy and he eventually ask if I was going to pay. I told him no and that's when he told me they would see me in court and not to call back.

I received a call from this number telling me the same thing, call within 24-48 hours, call an attorney.
When I finally talked to someone, they told me who it was I owed the money to. I told her I have a statement saying the bill was paid off in 2011, which it was!!!
At this point she started yelling at me and told me good luck in court and hung up on me.
This is such a scam!!! These people need to go to jail!!!

Yeah this number is totally a SCAM! I received a call on both my husbands cell phone and mine asking for me by my maiden name. I received the exact same message as the others on this page. The funny thing is I supposedly opened a MasterCard in my maiden name 4 years after being married and it defaulted 4 years ago. I have NEVER seen it on my credit report or received anything regarding it. Plus I literally have ZERO credit cards and I get my credit report every month. They hang up quick when you mention that your lawyer is there with you and the that the call is being recorded on your end, or when you mention that you have reported them to the authorities. They also don't like it when you insist on them giving you their name (they hang up on you). I have reported this number as well as ALL details to the FBI, PA Attorney General and the SC Attorney General since that is where the number 803-656-0787 is based out of. These people are looking to put fear in you DON'T let them fight back!!!!

My husband received a call from this number as well, 1-803-656-0787....I began researching because of course they stated that he owed money for a credit card that he knew nothing about.  When he asked questions about things to confirm the debt they could not answer and therefore, we told them that we would go on to court with it and of course they stated good luck and terminated the call with us and they would send us the documents to come to court. I came across these postings and read what you guys stated about the number and I called back I actually got the lady that we had previously spoken with and when I informed her with what was online and they should not be calling people with this foolishness she got upset and just unprofessional and told me to have a nice day Mrs Martin and hung up the phone and I was really nice about the call back I did not curse or nor was I rude....her name was Ashley Simpson...!

I'm changing my number and closing my bank account just as a precaution. These people are disgusting for using peoples fear as a motive to get cash.

My husband received a call from these people. I called them back from a blocked number and told them I was from the State Attorney General's Office Investigating a case, they didn't want to talk to me, they hung up. I tried again and the same thing happened. I filed a claim with my attorney generals office and the FBI.

It is a scam! They just want your money. Don't send it.
