Just recieved a call from a women saying her name was Jessica Baab and that my capital one debit card was compimised and wanted to give me a new one, I asked her for her phone number then called my bank and they said they have no such number at Capital One...scam scam scam avoided....Caller: Capital One ???
LuLu 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
This is a SCAM....just got off the phone with the REAL Capital One!!!
allison 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
This is a legit number. It's Capital One. (Not just collections.) They left a voicemail saying it was not a sales call. I called the number on the back of my credit card, and they said the reason for the call was that they're lowering my credit limit.
VJ 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
This is a CapitolOne phone number. They will harass you for monies you do not owe, just because someone tapped into your card number. Even if you ask them what are the charges for they will tell you a number and it is your problem to get your money back even if it is charged to credit. While I was in Iraq they kept paying out monies I never authiorized. I would tell them where I was and I did not authorize the charge, there reply we can't put the money back in we already paid it ... I would have to contact the merchant and see if they would give back my money... well of course the merchant didn't care if it was authorized or not they already had their money that I did not authorize. Then when you stop your check going to them they still keep paying and now they want to collect from me. FDIC says there is nothing they can do about their banking practices. I could understand if it had been debited to the account, but no it was put on the credit and they paid it so Capitol One doesn't care who they get the money from that they paid out without the account holders approval.

Yup I think it is a scam. I just got the call 2 minutes ago and called it back and I got the "this is a non working Capital one #" and to call another #. This is a big scam. how can some one call you and when you call back it says its a non working number.

Just received two back-to-back hangups from this number at my office. I don't answer after hours. "they" left no message.
MissNJ 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
I do not understand why someone from Capital One would call and leave a message to call back and say that it's in regards to a "Business Matter" Funny thing is I do not have a business nor do I owe anybody or anyone money. This Lady is out of her mind. Be careful everybody. Do Not give any info out that is not related to what you currently are dealing with.
Hal 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
The voice message said it was Capital One - "this is just a courtesy call, so there's no need for you to call back unless you have questions about this courtesy call." Um, thanks.

Just got off the phone with Capitol One. It is a scam.
Dave 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
Interesting...this phone number was just trying to call my cell phone within a minute after I had called Capital One to dispute a charge on my card (using the legitimate Capital One number from their website, 800-955-7070). I never answer my cell phone unless I recognize the number. They left no message. Now I'm wondering if someone has somehow mirrored the Capital One call center.

I just received a voicemail from this number. The voicemail said that there was suspicious activity on my account (gave the last four digits too) and said to call back at 800 239 7054. The thing is, I haven't received my Capital One card yet. Unless it was stolen en route, how could there be suspicious activity if I haven't received or activated the card? I'm thinking it's a scam, and that scares me. Might cancel my card right when I receive it.

I just got a call from this number at my job. I don't have a Capital One credit card and she didn't ask for me. Said she had a report of a fraud with one of our customers and wanted to know if she could confirm the address'! I told her not without something in writing. The woman said "ok" and hung up! I work at a bank and that's pretty scary they're trying to 'scam' info!

Addum: When calling the number, I get a bogus message saying "You have reached a non-working number for Capital One"
AJ 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
This one has called twice, once this morning and once last week (looking at my log). Both times they left a message asking me to please call them back. Its the second suspicious phone call I've gotten today.
scpck 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
804-968-2000 Me too. Same number. Woman wanted to leave a message for someone who hasn't lived here in over 20 years. She got VERY rude. I told her not to call back. It sounds more like fraud than fraud prevention to me.
Ann 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
Got a similar call today from someone claiming to be from Capital One. The voicemail said to call them back at a different 800 number, and that it was not a solicitation. Problem is, they left the message for some name I've never even heard of. Asked me to call back 18002397054. DO NOT call this number back - It is NOT an actual Capital One number!!!! This is a fraud attempt!!! If you are ever in doubt, call the number listed on the back of your actual credit card! They can transfer you to all the right departments.
Joe 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
Capitial One Fraud department advised me that the credit card database from a merchant I purchased something before was stolen/hacked into and they needed to close my account and send me a new card. They also wanted to confirm the most recent transactions.

Kendra 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
Got a call from this # as well - Wanted my SS# which I did not give. They wouldn't tell me why they were calling.
frustrated 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown

Ryan Crozier 2011-06-06 20:59:15 Unknown
This was a call from their Fraud Department. They were confirming some recent big charges.
This is a great site!

Just got a phone call from them a couple minutes ago. They said they were from capital one, and they have some new procedure. They said I applied for a credit card (which i did) but the address i applied with does not match the address they had on the account. At the end though, they asked me to verify the name of my mother. That was fishy.

I 've received a call from this # 804-968-2000 this morning, Monday, March 10, 2008 at 11:55AM, and the gentleman asked for a weird name and I that him that there's no such person here and that it's cellphone number. After he's hung up, I've googled the 800# and found many links to it, and one of them led me to this site. I just bought the LG Chocolate cellphone on 29 February 2008, I don't how those telemarkers could have gotten my number.

Same call from Cap One today, Call Center from India and the return call number was unintelligble.

Rcd Call supposedly from Capital One Customer Value Team regarding new login procedures and access ID for my accounts. Stated they could only give access codes over the phone and they would not be mailed.
