If you did not release yourself in writing with the apartment complex from the lease before leaving you are definitely responsible for the debt. I understand people often think bc one person stayed behind that this is their responsibility but unless you have it in writing from the original creditor it's you they go after as well as the other person.

Did you sign a release? If so contact the apt complex and let them know to send the collection agency that info to take you off the account. If not then write them a letter and tell them what you can do to resolve the matter. Make sure you cc the apartment complex (their client) so everyone is on the same page.

I  did exactly what you just stated and these people are RUDE!!! The supervisor got on the phone and proceeded to tell me how I wasn't responsable and thats why i have the debt in the first place. That i need to go ask someone to help me pay my bills obviously if i couldn't afford the payment plan. This really rubbed me the wrong way and had i not been at work (i work for a us federal agency) I think i might have gone off on him. Expecially since it's not even my debt in the first place. Which is what i was trying to explain to them. That the apartment ws left to my EX HUSBAND!!! Then when i called back the new lady Terry stated that they don't have customer service there because it ws a debt collections agency. So i guess when you call someone to ask for a payment COMMON COURTESY is noy needed. Very put off!!!

To John:

LOL. How ignorant can you be? I DON'T OWN ANY APT COMPLEXES. I have no idea how you came to that conclusion. You go on a rant about how I got greedy and people not being able to fulfill their LEGAL obligations. Well guess what? In a court of law they DON'T care! If you signed it you pay for it. You can whine about the economic times all you want but at the end of the day it's YOU that is held accountable by a judge if a creditor chooses to sue which most often than not happens nowadays. I have been through it and believe me it's no fun having a judge tell you that it doesn't matter the situation you're in you ARE going to pay no matter what.

To Sarah:

It's NOT being one sided it's called "being responsible" instead of making pathetic excuses. If it wasn't for companies who help recover monies owed we would all pay more. You make vile comments towards me yet you don't even know me personally. How ignorant is that? Your rant is  typical of debtor who only makes excuses for the dumb decisions they made in their lives. I don't follow a script here on theses message boards. I ONLY STATE WAS IS FACT! Don't hate the messenger lady. http://www.creditcards.com/credit-card-news/t ... hp?aid=46bf5df1

I think that you are completely one sided. We are talking about one particular company as far as debt collections and you are ranting about americans being responsible for the loss of jobs. It is called economical downfall and you can thank your president for that. Financial hardships happen with people all of the time and sometimes it is out of their control. You are extremely biased since you have a history as a debt collector. I see all of your responses as supportive for the credit industry. Stop text booking your responses and stop using your old CA script and validate your responses with substance instead of what you were brainwashed to say as a debt collector. You are ignorant and if you dont have anything to say that is helpful to the situations of the people seeking guidance then keep your stupid a** comments to yourself. People understand they "legally owe" a company and that is why they are seeking assistance on the path is less financially damaging. Thank God none of us had your job. Instead of bragging about your work history like this is an interview hide that s*** because it is embarrassing for you to be associated with such vile and inhumane evil beings as those who are trying to collect debt. Go screw yourself idiot.

You grow up, you be accountable. You made the 100% profit on the rent they did pay, and wrote off the rent they didn't pay as a loss and deducted it from your taxes. Despite the fact that you already washed the loss  these people should be forced to pay your king's ransom? Your name is on the contract as well, how about you show a little responsibility and except the consequences of your actions? Not bloody likely I'm guessing. You own two apt. complexes, yet you pursue collections on people who can barely afford a roof and food? Good luck with that, seems to be in direct conflict with the words of an old carpenter, whom you probably pretend to worship every sunday.

@beresponsible- you assume that the people they are harassing or rude too are the debtors. I am not, a friend listed me as an emergency contact, so now this guy calls me, refuses to identify himself, and then berates and belittles me for asking him who he is and why he's calling me. You have a point, most of the time people owe the money. You're wrong however in assuming that the debtor is the only person who is contacted. That said, I'm a landlord, and I've never used a debt collection service. I only rent to people I trust, and only have as many units as I can manage. You got greedy, or probably were all along, put yourself in a situation where someone couldn't fulfill their obligations to you, so you screwed them good. You are right, we all pay, but it is I, who pays for your insolence and greed because I have to pay for all the legislation, all the courts, and everything else that goes into making sure you get the money from someone whom you knew didn't really have it in the first place.

I have a life lady. Your lack of responsibilty and attitude affects all of us because in the end everyone pays more for the dead beats who refuse to pay.

This is about READING what you signed. If you don't want to be held accountable then DON'T sign contracts. I recently signed on with a cellphone carrier for their wireless internet service. I am NOT happy with it because it truly isn't reliable but guess what? I know I'm subject to the term fee if I choose not to use their service anymore.

I am also aware of all the other charges I will be RESPONSIBLE for if I break the agreement. Why? Because the rep who signed me on went over the ENTIRE contract step by step so there is NO excuse of what I am going to pay. If I don't pay it then I know my account eventually is going to be with a collection agency.

It's that simple. You pay what you legally owe. Stop the whining because a lot of you act like victims when you're not. No wonder this country is in the mess it's in because people like yourselves all they do is complain and take no responsibility for the stupid decisions you CHOOSE to make.

I laugh at Americans when they whine about there are no jobs in this country. That's because we DON'T produce anything to create jobs with. Everything is outsourced to another 3rd world country where they pay slave wages. It's our own fault for allowing it to happen. We were being warned for a long time but because we are a selfish people who don't listen and now look. An economy im crises.

We are so consumed with passing the blame to someone or something else that we don't look at ourselves in the mirror first.

It's time Americans grow up and be held accountable.

I didnt recieve a call from Steve Dell, but instead someone else recieved a call from him before I did. I only found out about this joker until after I got his number. Now, "Be Responsible" is partially right, 95% of the people complaining owe the money end of story, they just dont want to pay it. I'm the same way. I owe the money but am not willing to pay the full amount. But the key here is how much HW is willing to be cooperative and it doesnt seem like very. I suggest if they keep calling and bugging us, lets just keep calling them and bugging them until we get our way. They have our number and we have theirs. tell all your friends, hell get the TEA PARTY to call them, there good at causing a ruckos, maybe we can get them to back off.

Look, I know alot of people here including myself might not be "fond" of collection agencies but there are some out there who you can't take lightly. Hunter Warfield deals with apartment and funeral home debt as well as commercial businesses. They are legally hired by the very same companies you did business with (I.E.: Apartment complexes you lived in, funeral home or the business you once or still own)and they DON'T buy the debt for pennies on the dollar. You need to find out what's going on by either checking your credit report or calling them. Word of advice: DON'T START OUT WITH AN ATTITUDE. Alot of you complain about this company and make accusations of rudeness and other claims but the truth is 9 times out of 10 it's the consumer (debtor)who is the cause of the problems like rudeness, yelling, screaming or cursing. EVERYTHING is recorded and monitored there which the reps tell you upfront. It's called the "Mini Miranda". I guarantee you if I had the chance to listen to some of your calls it would reveal the truth that YOU are the cause for the problems of resolving the debt most of the time. Any rep who curses at you would be fired on the spot. When you leave an apartment many times people don't get receipts or the correct documents to make sure they don't owe anything upon vacating the apt (I didn't). This type of debt is NOT like a credit card where it gets sold off to different agencies. It stays at Hunter Warfield until it gets paid either voluntarily by you or involuntarily (i.e.:lawsuit, judgement etc). You won't be able to rent another place or buy anything unless this property debt is resolved. Remember there are two sides to every story and all we are hearing is one side until now. I have been inside the offices of HW to pay a bill and it's a classy place. You would never think it's a collection agency and believe me I have seen some hole in the wall collection places. I use to work for a couple of them. HW looks more like a law office. My suggestion is to do your research, work out the issue with the company and move on. STOP whining because like I stated before most of the time it's the debtor who makes the problem.

Collections- Tampa Bay - This number is connected w/ 888-878-2654 which is off the hook until "Steve Gotti" or whatever his current alias is needs to call out, generally he calls from this line first. Cool website... If I don't recognize the number and caller, I don't answer. Don't speak to them or acknowledge your identity. Rude and pushy bunch when they start getting pay phone calls everyday. Give "Steve" a call at 813-283-4860 when you happen to pass a pay phone! Not from a line connected to you though....it keeps him from bugging others when he has to field our calls.

Hunter Warwick is a collection agency that uses intimidation as its way of getting paid.  Very aggressive. If they call you at work invoke the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and report them to your state attorney general.
