I missed a call from the phone number 813-288-5500. I didn't recognize the number and there was no voice mail message left explaining the call. I looked it up and found that it says it is from New York Life Insurance. I don't know if it is a legitimate call or fraud. I have a cell phone that is on the do not call list. I don't know if I should call the number back of just ignore it.

FYI, it is New York LIfe Insurance who happens to underwrite AARP life insurance, so if you've applied for life insurance/completed the enrollment form, they need to contact you for additional information to complete the underwriting process. They are not telemarketing anything.

If you call that number back it says that it's New York Life and you have to enter numbers to speak to the person you want to. Strange that it doesn't give you the operator or receptionist number! I wouldn't answer the phone because I didn't recognize the number. I'm glad I looked it up.

My husband also received a call from this number on his cellphone. The caller claimed to be from AARP.
FYI - I called AARP and they said that this is not one of their telephone numbers - they have toll free 800 numbers and it will show their logo when calling. I will be applying this number to the "No Call List".

Just heard back from my Financial Advisor. There appears to be NO connection to the legitimate New York Life. All communication on my account is accounted for, and does not include a call from this number.
All sources point to fraudulent.

I just got a call too. No voice mail. Emailed my financial planner (through whom I have a New York Life account) to see if there's any legitimate reason they'd be attempting to contact me. No word yet.
Call received Friday 5/7/2010 at 2:10pm.

Received call on my cell phone number which is of course on the do not call list and should never be solicited regardless, as cell phone are off limits. Furthermore we do not give this number out to anyone who does not know us ever as we do have a land line. Very strange how this number got out or was randomly generated for sale call purposes. No message was left
