I received a text from this number, who knew my first name, and saying that we hadn't spoken in a while, but no name was provided. When I replied asking who it was, they responded "Lol if u want to know who this is u got to add me on Y! msger. my id is ettakaz587" I texted asked a friend of mine (with whom I have many friends in common and is well-connected) to see if she recognized the number but she didn't.

If you search that number, this has happened before, sometimes providing a different Y! messenger id. Conversely, if you look up ettakaz587, you'll find that this scam has also occured with a different phone number (425-321-2368).

Just received a text message:

hey (my name) you there? Have not heard from you in a while.

I looked up the 815 area code and I don't know anyone from Chicago, so I'm glad I checked here before responding. Luckily, this was sent to my Google Voice number so I can easily report and block it. I use this number for banks, retailers, contests, etc. for this exact reason. Too bad it's actually necessary.
