They just called my office and tried to verify my employment.
Since I happen to work in the human resources industry, I know this to be a fact:
There are only two legal reasons to verify somebody's employment and that is if they are
A) Applying for another job
B) Applying for a loan or some type of financial assistance
In either case, the verifying entity MUST have written authorization from the person they are calling to verify information on.
I have not applied for any jobs. I have not applied for any loans or financial assistance. I have not authorized this company to verify any information on me as this is the first time I have ever even heard of them. They are breaking the law on three fronts.
Four, if you count the violations on the Fair Debt Collection act that Carmen Jacobs (the name of the individual that called my office today) just committed. My co-worker originally answered the phone and Carmen quoted her with my full social security number. First of all, I don't know how she got it...but it's illegal for her to just give that information out willy nilly.
Then, as Carmen was making my co-worker (who also knew that Carmen was making an illegal request), my co-worker transferred the call to me.
Carmen didn't know that she was speaking with the person she was illegally trying to get information on. When I asked her why she was trying to obtain this information, she said that she verifies information for financial institutions such as banks and insurance companies and that "Mr. (my name) has applied for a loan in a large sum of money that requires verification of financial information."
Carmen told a bold faced lie. I have not applied for any loans, let alone a large one. At that point, I kindly advised Carmen that we do not provide employment verification over the phone and asked her not to call my office again.
I promptly contacted Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office in Chicago, IL for this reason:
Verifacts, Inc. is located at 204 1st Avenue in Sterling, IL with a zip code of 61081. They fall under this Attorney General's jurisdiction.
The person that I spoke with there stated that Verifacts, Inc. is certainly in the wrong here and encouraged me to file a complaint with her office. And then...to both of our surprise...she looked the company up and found that there have been NO COMPLAINTS filed against these people!
Listen up! If these people are contacting you, or contacting people to get information about you (ESPECIALLY EMPLOYMENT AND FINANCIAL INFORMATION) they are BREAKING THE LAW AND VIOLATING YOUR RIGHTS!
I have filed a complaint with the appropriate Attorney General's office. PLEASE do the same and let's help each other protect our rights and our privacy!
Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office can be reached at (312) 814-3000

They won't allow you to verify anything, so return the tacktic in return. You won't provide any information so i will return the favor.

THEY ARE A SKIP TRACEING COMPANY THAT GET
PAID BY CREDITORS TO FIND PEOPLE WHO HAVE DISAPPEARED AND ARE NOT PAYING DEBT.
THEY LOCATE PEOPLE VIA THE INTERNET AND CALL THE LAST KNOWN NUMBER AND IF THEYFIND AND VERIFY YOU ARE WHO THEY ARE LOOKIING FOR, THEY SELL THE INFO TO THE CREDITORS, SO THE CREDITORS CAN CHASE YOU DOWN.

There is no reason for a collection agency to call me, or for anyone to call me to verify my address. I've been receiving calls from this number for a couple of days now to my cell phone and I don't appreciate that. I'm also on the do not call list.

I got a call from this number a couple times. I never answer because I know it's a telemarketer and I'm on the DNC List. My caller ID says it's Verifacts.

this is a collection agency. I have been getting calls from them for three weeks now and it isn't even ME they want. I have tried to get through to the automated calling system but no luck. I finally got the number for a real person and they assured me that no one would call me again. Less than 5 hours later another call came in. I have now filed a complaint with my state.

Just got a call from Varifacts trying to varify my personal information for an undisclosed company. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION!!!! I had no idea who it was that I was talking to, or no way to varify that they were who they said they were. They wanted my birthdate and last four ssn. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! Not to mention that he couldn't even tell me what company he was calling in referance to because I wouldn't varify my personal information. I just moved into a new office and haven't even given my work number to my husband but somehow, Varifacts got it, and furthermore, the information they wanted varified was completely WRONG. Even after Googling them I couldn't tell if they were legit.
Be careful who you talk to, identity theft is on the rise.
VARIFACTS: You might want to rethink or reteach your approach in regards to customer service to your employees and teach them to not act like scam artists. I might have responded a little better if it wasn't so SUSPECIOUS.

This number has started calling me recently. I have no clue why they are calling. I'm current with all of my bills. I handle student loans directly with the loan company. My information is already up to date with those companies. Verifacts always calls when I'm not able to answer and they never leave a message. I also don't pick up for numbers I don't recognize, especially if they don't leave a message.

Probably has to do with student loans. VERIFAX .. they verify contact info for credit cards, banks, student loans, etc. ... i'll get to them when i feel like it .. can't get blood out of a turnip anyway. They are out of Somonauk, IL and have been nixed by my allowances plan .. so they will get a message on my phone that the user is no longer accepting incoming calls from this number ... if you have a student loan that falls under the TGSLC (or any other state) it's best to contact them directly and have them work with you on the interest and stuff when you are ready to start paying .. you can accomplish this by working with your local CCCS (Consumer Credit Counseling Service) .. I have found those guys in every community and they are a free service funded by tax-payers. Use it and get the most out of your tax dollars.
Sincerely,

Verifacts is a company which works for collections agencies as an intermediary to "verify" information about a debtor, such as employment. So they will call an employer where often a collector, often a "bottom feeder" type trying to leverage a "beyond statute of limitations" debt, may not be allowed to by law. Let's put these out of business with better legislation, so they cannot be a "workaround" for scumbag thugs.

Called our office repeatedly trying to reach an employee. They would not leave a message simply wanted to try again. The lady was polite but the calls are annoying none the less.
