Caller claimed to be from Century Link (my carrier) with a discount rate and wanted to verify my information. Scary - he already knew so much on me. I got suspicious then we got disconnected. I called Century Link regarding this and they said it was a scam. They also said that the scammers try to get you to say "yes" which is recorded. Also, Century Link put a block on my account so it could not be changed - just to be safe.

Calling me twice a day now saying they're Verizon. Will not take me off their list - been asking at least a month. I have arrangement with Verizon that they will not ever call so I know it's not Verizon. Had a rather heated conversation with them yesterday - and yep, they called again this morning.

This number also called my employer's office stating that Frontier Communications was having a Customer Appreciation Year and they'd lower our long distance rates and cut a surcharge of some sort. They tried sending me through 3 different "verification" calls, (1st one sounding like he just handed the phone to some other guy) all the while using an extremely thick Indian accent. When I questioned them, they got very rude and told me to just use yes or no answers. They said I'd get a confirmation number and call back phone number in the end after I verified all the info. I asked why Frontier wouldn't just give me the "discount" on the invoices, why I had to do all this verification. He stated that it was to make sure it was going to the right account. He said over and over that they were with Frontier, they were not a third party, there would be no additional charges, just a reduction on future bills. I knew something was not right and just said "No Thank you". Then he got very angry with me started yelling at me over the phone when I finally hung up on him. Then he called back 7 times through out the day. He has already called one time today as well. DON'T GO FOR THIS SCAM!!!!

Called my employers company and did basically the same thing but this time they threatened to report me to the cops or as "Shannon " said the " higher authority " after she said that her manager took the phone tried to talk to him but he then hung up on me.

Called today and said they need to verify my long distance with Century Link.  There was a lot of background noise and I could barely understand the person due to a heavy accent.   I hung up and called Century Link directly and was informed that it is a 3rd party long distance company.  They get you to verify your basic information and charge you through your current phone company.  As suggested by the customer service rep with Century Link, I placed at 3rd party payment blocker on my account.  It was free to add and worth the peace of mind.

Got a call from 815-942-8467 today. Indian guy stating he is from AT&T tells me our long distance is going to go down he gave me totally different numbers for what we currently pay so I knew something was messed up. I asked him if he could fax something over to show the new charges. He said we should have gotten a letter saying our rates would change. I haven't seen any letter and had actually talked to AT&T last week about our internet and the woman I spoke to said our rates were not going to change until next year. I was "transferred" to the verification manager (by "transferred" I mean it sounded like his buddy just walked up to his desk to grab the phone) He then started to ask me questions and told me to answer yes to all of the questions. I again asked about our rates and he gave me some nonsense about taxes that's why they were different. He then asked me if I was authorized to makes changes to our account and I said if he couldn't fax or email me proof of what changes would be made I wasn't going to authorize anything. He just said o.k. and hung up on me after that. Not sure what they actually wanted but I'm sure it wasn't good!

Just a correction -- I mistakenly said the phone number was in the Seattle area. It's in the Chicago area.

Thanks. And I'll add that it would be worth a call to your phone service carrier to alert them to NOT switch your service under any circumstances without your express permission.

Received a call just now from a man with a thick Indian accent saying he was with Century Link, calling to tell me my business rates are going down to $10/month and down to $.09/min per call.

I have a flat rate residential service so I knew this was a scam. I told him repeatedly that I could not understand him over the din of background noise.

I found this site and scam confirmation when I looked up the phone number. Seems based in the Seattle area.

I have been receiving these same phone calls and finally decided to look up the # and luckily found these post. I was pretty uncomfortable with the call. His name was Brian Wls his Emp. ID# is 5670 and the call back # he gave me is 1-800-443-8440 and I called it back, of course the call wouldn't go through. I hung up and he called back. I told him I'm not interested, I don't have time for his call and please take us off their list and hung up again. I also tried calling the # that shows up  on the ID when he called 1-815-942-8467 and it says that # has been disconnecting. They are cloning that # some how.

4 days in a row, the same MO from this place, today finally came up on caller ID.  

They were all from "My Phone company, Verizon" - Each day i asked to be put on "do not call" so yesterday i called verizon directly and got us put on "do not call" and "do not solicit" list.  I also spoke with a fraud lady.  She said it was a scam, too.  Luckily i got blocks put on our account so outside carriers cannot make changes.  

So today, i decided to have fun.  I started asking him where he was, he said he was in my state, pennsylvania, then told me he was in philadelphia.  I asked him how he got to work today, he told me again how we were saving on our long distance.  I told him we have free long distance and this was a scam.  I asked him again how he got to work, then he gave me an address- his apparent home address- which ended up looking like a warehouse. He would not tell me how he got to work.  He gave me his call back number, employee number.  I hope they call tomorrow, but I was careful to only say "ok i understand" but i guess that can get cut up to try to bone us.

Calls the office at which I work several times a week. Typically claims to be from CenturyLink, but occasionally reports to be from "your local phone company". Claims that the company has lowered our long-distance rate in half and is simply calling to verify this with us. After confirming that I am an employee here, I am transferred to a "verification manager", who asks if am a "decision-maker" for the account and strongly pressures me to answer yes. If they realize that you're suspicious or ask for a call-back number, they will hang up on you. They are spoofing this number, and what they're doing is almost certainly both fraudulent and illegal.

2nd day I have gotten this call. I have gotten these before & by simply saying yes, they changed my long distant carrier. The 1st call I got I just hung up. The second call I got today, I told him he wasn't calling from my long distant carrier & not to call me again. Then I just listened. He started yelling at me saying I am from you carrier, do you understand. I just sat on the phone & listened, he was really upset, just kept yelling & finally hung up. hahahaha

Phone call from India trying to tell me it was from Century Link to let me know that my long distance rates were dropping.  She was trying to record the conversation asking me questions that anybody would reply with a "yes", like if I wanted to save money or if my phone company was Century Link.  I know that they make a scam isolating  your response and putting it together with the questions that best fit their needs. Be careful with your "yes", "ok", "of course", they are all recorded and may be use later in their benefit.

Called our company (that does have service with the REAL ATT) with the same bs stating a discounted rate. i told them to email me the numbers or speak with our ATT rep, they would not. I hung up and i am still getting calls from them.

Got same call today but "because you are a good customer of CenturyLink." I operate a small business but have a management company that handles all our utilities so I alerted them to watch for an unauthorized switch. btw, could barely understand the caller (Indian but said his name Marvin LOL) and there were big pauses in the connection.

I received a call from this number and have a friend that lives in Morris Illinois.  I thought it might be him and tried calling within one half hour.  I was told this was number had been disconnected.  Sounds like someone hi-jacking phone numbers to get around the Do Not Call list.

Caller identified himself as "Jason from your local phone company". Jason had a distinct Indian accent.  Jason also didn't know what my local phone company was named; clearly a scam.  I hung up.

get this call on different times sometimes 3 a day have blocked number
seem they have some how fooled the caller id i get a lot of calls telemarketing now that show as cell phone calls on caller id i assume they
have to give that information to actual phone company why do they allow it the dont protect there customers from this our phone are supposedly blocked but if id says cellular phone it goes through it actually says wireless caller how can that be there name or do all throw away phones or burn phones show up that way
