2. Next I got the exact same questionnaire from them about information car and seller :
------------
Hi,

Thank you for your email and for letting me know that it is still available for sale. I am a private buyer and I am very interested in buying it for my personal use.

However, prior to any financial commitment I would like you to answer the following questions about the unit i.e...

i) Are you the first owner ?
ii) What is the present conditions ?
iii) What is your main reason for selling it ?
iv) What is your rock bottom price/final selling price ?
v) Which other listing agency or websites have you posted the ads with more information and more pictures ?
vi) Where is the present location of the unit for pre-purchase inspection exercise so as to make sure the unit is sold as is and as in description and photos on website!
vii) What is your contact cell phone number where I can easily reach you to talk to for further correspondence ?

Kindly reply me back here at your earliest convenience, I always check my emails periodically and on a regular basis and will return your messages ASAP.

3. After I sent him a response with details but not being too specific at the same time. He sends me the following email (again same as what folks have mentioned above). Here it goes :
----------------
hank you for your immediate reply and for the information forwarded.

Meanwhile, after comparing prices locally and elsewhere form other private seller... your stated selling price is fine and okay because it is below market value. However, I would still like you to consider a price reduction of $500 from your stated selling price 'please bear in mind that I will be responsible for the pre-purchase appraisal/inspection expenses and survey as well as the pickup and shipping expenses for proper transportation to my choice of destination. Therefore, kindly let me know ASAP if the $500 price reduction offer is acceptable by you so that I can be able to contact and instruct my bank to pay you a Non-Refundable Earnest Down Payment of $700 via a Certified Check for the RIGHT OF FIRST PURCHASE & REFUSAL.

More importantly, bear in mind that the Non-Refundable $700 will serve as a Good-Faith Deposit towards the purchase and as a standby commitment to purchase so that you can be able to 'HOLD' the unit for me in the meantime for a week time-frame pending the execution of a pre-purchase appraisal/inspection exercise and survey which will be conducted this week by a private appraisal/inspection agent in due course of requirement ASAP.

Please email me back ASAP or better still call me on my cell phone number indicated below for further discussion and negotiation, and if I am not there, please leave a message and I will get back to you later ASAP.

Waiting to hear from you ASAP.

Thanks

Seems a dead end as far as any hope is concerned. Beware of the tell-tale scam signs in here.

Hi Kathy,

Yes, I just received the same message from FLORAQUIZ@AOL.com after I posted my car at cars.com.  Their phone number was (412)324-2763.  In their text, they asked questions (price, condition of car, etc) to answers already posted with my vehicle.

I also received another text from (202)670-9184 at 4:30 a.m. letting me know that they wanted to buy my car at full price.  They asked if I had a paypal account.  I Googled them and it turns out that they too are scammers.  They supposedly arrange for an "agent" to come out to look at your car and to transport it, but first, they want the seller to wire them $600 for agent/transportation fees.  These scammers are something else... they are scum.

here is another scam number 5737231625. Text message within minutes of listing three cars for sale.  The test was very vague asking about my "car"  reply to floraquiz@aol.com.  The questions were short but the answers were listed in the ad already.  I replied (not Happy I did) with "All that info is online. Do not try scam"

I am curious if anyone has received further than calls or texts?  What exactly is the scam?

So, I am thinking he goes by Bryan Fair now.  bryanfair00@gmail.com Here are the emails I received and the original number that I got a text from was 214-888-9309.   It didn't seem right, but I wonder what info he is trying to get or is just messing with people.

Thank you for your email and for letting me know that it is still available for sale. I am a private buyer and I am very interested in buying it for my personal use.

However, prior to any financial commitment I would like you to answer the following questions about the unit i.e...Car

i) Are you the first owner ? no.  I am the third, but I know from the records that it was well maintained before I got it and after I received it.  It was purchased as a Porsche Certified vehicle two years ago from Houston, TX.

ii) What is the present conditions ? It is in very good condition for a five year old vehicle.   It has never been in a wreck and I keep it very clean and detail it often.

iii) What is your main reason for selling it ? Porsche has closed all of their dealerships within a three hour radius of where I live, so getting it maintained it nearly impossible with my work schedule.

iv) What is your rock bottom price/final selling price ? 21,500 is a fair selling price for both parties

v) Which other listing agency or websites have you posted the ads with more information and more pictures ? only cars.com, but I am getting ready to post it on other sites.

vi) Where is the present location of the unit for pre-purchase inspection exercise so as to make sure the unit is sold as is and as in description and photos on website! I am located centrally in WV, but can drive it to an agreed upon location for inspection.

vii) What is your contact cell phone number where I can easily reach you to talk to for further correspondence ?  you originally texted my cell, 304-663-9970

Kindly reply me back here at your earliest convenience, I always check my emails periodically and on a regular basis and will return your messages ASAP.

Hello, My name is Josh and I'm interested to learn more about this unit you've listed and advertised for sale i.e your CAR Is it still available for sale? Please respond at your earliest convenience because I would like to make an offer now. My email

The text dropped after the email or I would gladly post it.  Apparently Cars.com is eaten up with scammers.

To protect yourself and your sanity, I use a fake number from www.pinger.com. I never give out my real number until I'm sure the person is legit, with pinger you can read the texts, see who called and google it first before you respond.   Then block them permanently if they are con artists

I'm selling a car and also got an inquiry by Eric Marth. Same number, too. He wanted the address of where the car was located and a phone number. NEVER GIVE THAT INFO. OUT!

Always arrange to meet in person for a transaction like selling a car and meet in public place...if you're worried, choose a place that has cameras in the parking lot. Never accept PayPal as payment (google "PayPal scams"). Also, always arrange to get payment at a bank, and insist on actually seeing the cashier's check prepared by the teller. Scammers also know how to forge cashier's checks, so meeting at the bank and seeing it prepared is the only way to know that the cashier's check is legitimate.

Just received a text and  email yesterday and today 6/28/13 from the same 817 number, calling himself Eric Marsh, with the same exact email about "the unit", which in this case is my Acura TL that I am selling on cars.com and craig's list. Thanks for reporting the scam as a result of my googling his name. Said he would send me a non-refundable $1000 certified check for me to hold the car for review and inspection, which I found suspicious.. I googled him because I received another scam from Alexander Jones and thought it might be related as a follow-up scam. Don't know exactly what the scam is or how it plays out. Does anyone know? How do we know who is a legitimate buyer? His email was ericmarth00@gmail.com

SCAMMER.  I just listed a car on Cars.com.   When I sell something (like on Craig's list) I usually jumble my contact number by using a series of words and numbers with spaces so the automatic program can not detect the number.  This works great but on Cars.com I figured I wanted my telephone number (mobile) and I received the same message in three text messages from the above number.   It is a a scam.  If a person is truly serious, they would call you or at the least email you with contact information and reference the particular vehicle vs. the "unit".   I will admit they are getting more and more clever.  Just a shame this exists on trustworthy sites like cars.com.
