844 numbers are just like any other toll-free number, e.g. 866, 855, etc.

I called them back.  It is the Environmental Defense Fund, wanting a donation. You have the option to remove your number by pressing a couple of buttons on your phone.  Problem solved.

We received a call at 8:30 p.m. from this unknown caller,844-860-6659, do know who they are and
could care less, because they don't leave a message.  Annoying callers who call after 7:30.  Find
out who they are and make them stop with these darn phone calls.  Not appreciated at all.

1st time for this B.S! THIS was at 8:49 PM CT on 3/13/14. WHY are these $cammers allowed to call? I do NOT want to be bothered when we're watching Pawn Stars! $CRAM!!!

Have received several calls from this number and just let it ring.  Only roof2 to the times.  

Got a call from the #, on my land line, in the afternoon. My phone is blocked by Panasonic, BUT it rings once and is so ANNOYING!!! I don't care what they are collecting for, lose my number...

It is an auto-dialer, but it's for the Environmental Defense Fund, and they solicit donations for their cause.  They use their donations quite well, little administrative overhead.  You can call them back and ask to remove your number from their list, if you want.

Pretty sophisticated auto-dialer solicitation.  8:55AM I answered the call.  What sounded like a live voice asked, "Is Wayne there?"  I asked, "Who?"  The voice responded in the exact same tone, inflection, tempo, everything, "Is Wayne there?"  I remained silent and the voice repeated EXACTLY "Is Wayne there?"  I said, "Are you a recording?"  It started to say "Is Wayne there?"  but stopped in mid sentence and said, "I sometimes use my computer to assist me in pronouncing names, let me try that now.  It then switched to the typical run-on, mechanical voice of computer-speak to say, "IZWAYNEDAVISTHETHIRDTHERE..."  I started to respond, but the original voice cut me off to again say, "Is Wayne there?".  I replied, "No Wayne here."  The voice said, "Sorry." and hung up.  

I just received a call from this number, Wednesday, ~9:45 AM.  I rejected the call.
Researched the "844" area code.  Was informed, there is no charge for the caller.
But THE PERSON RECEIVING THE CALL IS CHARGED.

Called again yesterday - blocked again.

Called this AM. It is a computer call. When asked if it could say by repeating in these exact words "I am not a comp-pu-tor" it couldn't do it and decided to hang up. I'll be blocking this phone number from now on.

By the way, can't stand the trolls listed above saying that this is legit... if it was why not use real people? The EDF donates only 3% of it's fund raising activities. The rest is salaries and perks to it's employees (mostly management).

It is the environmental defense fund - they are legitimate - you can call back and it gives you the option to remove your number from their call list. I hate getting calls like this, but do support them so not too upset - just called back and remove my number.

This is a telemarketer from edf.org calling for a donation. I'm unsure how they've gotten my number bc I've never donated or heard of them. You can listen the message and have your number added to their "do not call" list.

I don't have an answering machine but received 2 calls today on the caller ID.  I just called it and it's a non-profit that I wish I could donate to.  It was a recording and there is an option to remove your name from their call list if you want to.  Maybe we've all signed petitions for this group; I know I have.

Called and after a small delay asked if "Jordan" was there. Call then automatically hung up.

Called at 9:17AM left no message.  Caller ID says "NAME NOT FOUND".

Got a call from this number said hello the person hung up about 30 sec later with out saying a word

They called my cell around 1 PM and I let it ring to see how long they'd persist, it rang a long time. I did not recognize the number so did not pick up. Of course they left no message which leads me to believe it's not someone I know or want to know.

I received a call from this number at 10:30 this morning mountain time. I answered and a male voice said hello and then never spoke another word, but didn't immediately hang up either. I hung up after about 30 seconds of not getting another response.
