JUST ANOTHER TELEMARKETER SPAMMER
CWG40 2014-06-21 23:14:21 Telemarketer
Called about 4 PM today. Knew exactly what it was. Lady with Filipino accent telling me about a wonderful snake oil cream that my insurance company will pay for. She asked for my DOB, gave her a false one but since it shows over age 65, she said sorry, only for persons covered by insurance NOT on Medicare. They're smart enough not to try to scam Medicare.
Total insurance scam. It's also being run by US domestic scammers too.
Wanted to record it, but couldn't wire up my Olympic voice recorder in time. Another time, scammers, another time. I'll get them--and I'll put the thing on Youtube.

Good advice BUT you still have to 'suffer' the initial call from EACH new number/scammer first. It IS annoying. And, when someone is suffering from a serious illness and has their very critical rest frequently disturbed, as has happened in our household, its downright infuriating.
Also, I've been blocking about 2-3 numbers DAILY, but EACH day, another crop of completely 'new' numbers calls. We usually get a second call from already blocked numbers - often a week or so later, but, after that, they are on to the next new number. Got a new Call Blocker for Christmas 2013; its already almost half 'full' with numbers.
I WILL start using the FTC link, though. Didn't realize the DNC List doesn't turn over scammers numbers for prosecution (when they reach a certain count), as I thought. Thought it worked for both 'types' of calls.

Got a call from Neighbor. No one said anything. So I left my normal greeting. F

Call came via Call Waiting while I was on another call. I thought I'd blocked this number, but maybe its one digit different from the one I blocked. Anyway, when saw it was an 845 number, I picked up/hung up without answering to stop the call and possible 'confuse' the robodialer as to whether our line is 'live' or not. In looking at Caller ID, I can see it called TWICE IN ONE MINUTE; the first time had "NEIGHBOR" as its caller id, too.
Just NINETY MINUTES ago, we got a call from 458-201-1670 with Caller ID of "ALERT". I let that one go to ans. machine, JUST IN CASE it was a reverse 911 call from our city government/emergency services for a severe weather alert, or in several cases in the past, a 'be on the lookout' for a missing child/handicapped person.
No message was left; I now believe it was SPAM, possibly tied to THIS call; testing whether our long held (36+ yrs) line was still 'live' or not.
800Notes, WHEN are you going to get another category of "SPAMMER/SCAMMER"?; these callers are not even as legit as so-called 'legal' telemarketers. These are CRIMINALS AND THIEVES.

Robo-caller recorded message "a pain relief cream" that is supposedly "covered by health insurance." They have called several times, even though my number is on the Do Not Call list. My caller ID shows the phone number and the word "Neighbor" - ha ha ha ha 3000 miles away!!!

This is a robo call marketing pain meds The caller ID says "Brewster." I hung up and reported on the Do not call site, for what it's worth.

"might be covered by your insurance company" sounds to me like they're surfing for Seniors on Medicare so they can get their info to scam the government with submitting false claims for all kinds of durable medical equipment/DME they'll never supply like back/knee braces, ortho shoes, etc. OR they do send it, but it's not needed, like one of our patients got a hospital bed he didn't need... The scammers fill out a form with all the patient's info including their doctor's name & his/her office number and the doctor's National Provider Identification #/NPI which is easily available on the web thru the NPI Registry; they'll call the office and ask for the fax number, which often the receptionist won't question and gives it out... the form comes and med recs/authorizations clerk puts it on the Dr's desk which might even get signed because the letter will say "your patient Robert Jones has contacted us about these products but we need your signature". OR they'll tell the patient that "your doctor has contacted us that he/she wants you to have xxxxxxx, but we've misplaced his name and phone number and we need this form signed before we send you the xxxxxx. Can you give it to us please?" I hate scammers.....

Another robo telemarketing scheme selling pain meds. Hung up after 10 secs. Funny, that's how the recording started, "don't hang up..."

>> if you call back you usually can get that option and mist often stops the calls from that number <<
NOOOOO!
If you return a telescammer's call, all you do is verify that your phone number is "live"!
That puts you on a hotlist that will receive even more telescam calls, where they hope one of their various "offers" will entice you to send money.

No message but listed as neighbor. Call the number back and get their message to hit 1 and be placed on their do not call list. Annoying to receive but if you call back you usually can get that option and mist often stops the calls from that number

The DNC list does not automatically block calls. Instead, it provides a list of "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.
The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations, charities and companies with preexisting business relationships, but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).
The DNC list is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
Its purpose is to stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.
Here is your reading assignment:
http://www.ftc.gov/news-events/media-resource ... try/enforcement
Remember, the Do Not Call site is a good one to report unwanted calls from LEGITIMATE telemarketers. The DNC list does not cover calls from criminal scammers & spammers. To report those, visit https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
If you receive calls even after reporting them (and waiting a sufficient time), then you should consider using a call blocker app, device or service as your first line of defense. Google "call blocker" to see such things at Amazon or other sites.

It appears that being on the Do Not Call list is getting to be useless since so many junk calls still go through. We also got this # calling us on 06/20/2014.

Same as all the rest; "non-narcotic pain relief cream" that "might" be covered by your insurance company. Press "1" to confirm your address for delivery. Interesting. Probably an OTC analgesic of some sort; like BioFreeze or something similar. Insurance doesn't cover OTC meds like vitamins.
SCAM!

I have a fax machine hooked up to phone line and when I don't know a number, I have the fax machine answer. Has cut down re-calls.
Reality 2014-06-21 01:06:31 Unknown
You HAVE to understand. The Do Not Call list means absolutely NOTHING. The sooner you figure that out, the sooner you can realize you are on your own.
mikef 2014-06-20 23:57:48 Unknown
Neighbor just called. The 'do not call" list is useless. We are in the New Orleans area.

This place calls me every few weeks. Leaves a lengthy message about medical stuff. I keep reporting to nomorobo but these jerks keep changing their phone number. Got 2 calls within 2 hours today from 2 different phone numbers. So annoying.
sooner 2014-06-20 23:11:09 Unknown
Just got that call.Says neighbor. Did not answer. Our number was spoofed several weeks ago by scammers. NEVER answer any call from a number you do not know . My mistake was that I answered a call from the same area code as mine.

Got a call today, didn't answer and they didn't leave a message. CID read Brewster NY
George 2014-06-20 22:19:40 Unknown
The caller id said "neighbor"--I would have to doubt that VERY much as 845 is a New York area code, and we live in Wisconsin, PLUS, none of our neighbors are scammers, such as these callers!
Had Enough 2014-06-20 22:06:47 Unknown
No message left, caller ID displayed: NEIGHBOR. Added them to blocked caller list...
