11:06 am got a call on July 1, 2008 from NYNEX from 845-426-7094.  They hung up and left no message.

Think about it. NYNEX was bought out in 1997 by Verizon (then Bell Atlantic.) I think this is a scam from a debt collector of a phisher. They cannot legally use the name "Verizon" on the caller ID. It is easier to falsify NYNEX by spelling the last name as "Y N E X" and the first name as "N" so it reads like NYNEX even with the comma (N, Y N E X).

I also received three calls today from 845-426-7094 and caller ID showed N,Y N E X.  This is b***s*** if verizon is doing this.

I have gotten three calls so far today from 845-426-7094. I thought it's interesting that the calls start today.  Yesterday I called verizon and downgraded my service to just basic which cost about $15.00 a month in addition I added call forwarding to my plan, that is another $4.00 a month.  There is a charge of 9 cents for each call forwarded.  I thought it was strange suddenly I'm getting a call and there is nobody on the line the caller ID indicate NYNEX.  I called it, there is no answer.  Isn't a pretty good racket for the provider especially if this automated robot makes 11 of these fake calls a day--- that amount to a cool 30 bucks on top of the dial tone and the forwarding charge.

I hope you see my point.  I will check with verizon and fill you guys in.

I just held on without saying anything. After about a minute, a recorded female voice comes on that sounded very much like the real Verizon recorded voice. It said that it was important that I call an 800# which I neglected to write down unfortunately for important information. It said that at the prompt I should push 6. This seems really like a debt collection agency trying to get info using the ANI of the 800# system. Have also received calls with the following numbers 845-577-5699 845-426-7072  845-426-7086  845-426-7689  845-426-7081 and of course 845-426-7094  These are very clever scams.
