I believe these people are fishing for live numbers to sell on to marketing firms...
They have called me everyday for the past two months, I answer and the line goes dead.
It is rather annoying and after reading all the comments I too will be blocking the number!

Oh here we go again. This is a new number and similar to one that rings me four times a day from New York. I am in the UK and have no idea why this caller keeps phoning and then puts the receiver down.

just had this number call me missed it but noticed the new york tag and i dont even know anyone in the us so set my phone to automatically reject the number if they try to call back

They get your number in data lists - usually from when you've signed up or bought something online and not ticked the 3rd party refusal box.
Keep an eye out for it, it's illegal to pass on contact details if specify you don't want them to.

This number just called to conduct a 'general household survey' all well and good but at 8:40 in the evening - back when I was a dreaded telemarketer you couldn't call past 8pm.

I TPS registered my phone this week so hopefully these calls will soon be history!

2 calls from almost identical numbers, first one I answered but ended call after I heard an overseas accent, second call I didn't answer and because I've an iPhone, have blocked both numbers. Way too many of this type of intrusive unsolicited calling going on lately........

Who ever this is, they keep calling me on my mobile and asking for a Mr Malik, several times I have answered and told them they have the wrong number. The man I spoke to was extremely rude, said that I had got it wrong and that he wanted to ask me a few questions anyway! This is a waste of my time whilst I am at work!

I have had 4 calls from this number (USA  number),  finally answered  4th call and he was asked if I had just purchased a factory, what on earth is going on? I asked him where he got my details and this information, he hang up!

Glad I looked at this site about this number. Had 4 calls in succession from this number but don't know anyone in New York and my phone was on silent. Thanks everyone, I am now going to block this number.

Called me today. Said she was from a company doing household research on behalf of UK brands and companies. I asked for the name of the company several times and she just said 'Don't worry I'm not trying to sell you anything, just ask a few questions.'
She wanted me to confirm my post code, email, phone number and so on. Said my details had been passed to her from companies such as BT, British Gas or electoral rolls.... I didn't confirm any of my information as she couldn't tell me what it was for, who she was or the company name... Dodgy.

I have had numerous calls from the two numbers latest one two mins ago, answered one or two but they just put the phone down!

I got 2 calls from this number today, I told them both times that I did not want to talk to them & told them not to call again. I have now blocked the number. They tell me they are not selling anything & that they just want to ask me a few household questions. Asia accent.
