A woman calls and says she is with washington mutual and tells me I need to make a payment on my c.c. right away and asks for my s.s. number and account number. I told her to go ---------. Later the same day she calls back and says she is with providian. This is a scam!

Providian and Washington Mutual are the same company.  WaMu bought out Providian.  But they have started calling under all different kinds of numbers to get ahold of people.

A lady from this number called my fiance's parents house and asked for me! And she didn't identify who she was. I found this to be a little scary since there is no obvious connection between me and his parents. He's not listed on my account and I have never given their number to any credit company. How did they get that number and know to look for me there? Really makes you wonder what they have access to in order to find you.

Send them a certified letter of Cease and Desist, telling them to only send U.S. Mail and stop the callings due to the FTC rules.

Pretty much all credit card companies are evil in some way or another. But WAMU is by for the worst as far as I know.
Of course...the evil can be avoided by avoiding card companies all together, but hindsight is of course 20/20. Me typing this on this board probably will help no one, since you are reading it, you probably fell victim to WAMU. If by chance you stumble across this and do not do business with WAMU...Save yourself now. WAMU does many, MANY horrid things and you can look up all of their scams on Google. The list is HUGE. What they have done to me (and many others) is that when you make a payment on time, they will fumble around with it until it's JUST over the deadline, then raise your percent a MASSIVE amount. Then of course, you need to be punished for paying late (which you did not do) so they take your payment and apply it toward the punishment and your ridiculous percent that it has been raised to...This makes it so not one single dollar goes toward your bill. If you are having trouble paying bills anyway....There will be no way to escape this now. There is no talking to anyone, no fixing the problem, you will pay the rest of your life on a couple grand. I was very fortunate in the fact that I could pay off my WAMU bill in it's entirety...But I even had difficulty doing that. They kept adding little charges even after it was paid off...So I had to keep making payments to try and cover the new made up charges. I "THINK" I have finally got it taken care of. But I still cannot get the account closed, So, it's probably not over yet. I honestly feel terrible about people who get involved in this scam and cannot pay it off like I did. What if you can't just throw money at the problem? They try and ruin as much of your life and take as much from you as they can, that's what. I deal with shady people all day long in my line of work...but I have to say WAMU takes the prize...because they are shady with a huge amount of power.

Just so that everyone is aware...Jorge (who posted earlier) works for WAMU and goes around to all these type of boards posting the same thing. It's BS. WAMU is organized crime because of the stunts they pull to raise your rate. The only difference between them and normal organized crime is that they make billions off of their crime, not thousands....so that makes it all okay.

Every time I am able to answer the phone, I tell them that I am involved in a debt management program, and to get in touch with them. I offer a phone number for them to call, they don't bother taking it. They ask if I can make a payment today over the phone instead (which I won't do anyways; I will not give financial information over an unsecured line)

I'm seriously thinking of just starting out my answer with telling them I'm cutting to the chase; I know my account is overdue, I cannot make payment, I'm working through a debt management program, this is their name, this is their number, get ahold of them and they can answer any questions you'll have. Have a nice day *click*

I need to find a way to get a note entered on my account to contact my debt management company rather than me...

I have just added this number to my cell phone book.  WaMoo now is calling me from 17 different phone numbers in many area codes.  I am unemployee as well, economy took a dump and I can't pay.  So I made a payment arrangement with them.  So now they call even more.  I have received over 500 calls in 2 weeks.

We, too, had a death in the family.  That made us not able to make our payment for this month.  I've told them we have a settlement coming in 30-60 days and that the card will be paid off, but they just keep calling after they say they won't.

I've told them that calling me every 15 minutes for 3 hours in the morning...3 hours in the afternoon and 4 hours at night isn't going to change my situation.  We've had their card for over 5 years and we've NEVER missed a payment and always paid a week before due dates.  Needless to say when we pay this off, we'll be canceling our card.

Yeps I get calls as well . If you really want to screw with them ,pick up the phone , put it on mute and let it sit . They can not use the line because you have not hung up ......They cant hear you = mute button ! So you are tie up wamu lines with out sitting on hold etc. If they want to call me 10 times a day I will pick up the phone ,set it down and go to work and come home and pick it up and hear them saying ,"Sir ,Please release the line " .
It took 3 days of this and NO MORE CALLS !

THAT IS WASHINGTON MUTUAL. I OWE THEM MONEY AND COMMUTE TO THEM THAT BECAUSE OF A DEATH IN THE FAMILY, I CANNOT RESUME PAYMENT UNTIL BEGINNING OF MAY.  THEY CALL EVERY HALF HOUR DESPITE MY ACCEPTING ONE OF THEIR CALLS EACH DAY.  845-558-3271, 800-553-1077, 760-904-5066, 847-221 0024, WAS RECEIVED BEFORE 10:00 AM.

CALL THEM AT 1 800 955 7070 AND WAIT FOR PROMPT NUMBER 3 AND SAY YOU ARE NOT GOING TO MAKE PAYMENT. YOU WILL GET A LIVE OPERATOR.  CALL THEM ANY TIME YOU GET A CALL FROM THEM. JAM THEIR LINES LIKE THEY JAM MY CALLS ALL DAY LONG. THEY CALL FROM OREGON, NEW YORK, FLORIDA, ETC.

I started getting calls from a few unknown numbers after submitting my resume to job postings on Craigslist. I have a suspicion that they were fakes set up to get info from people because I'm getting calls from these unknown numbers at both the numbers I provided on my resume. I was dooped!

Yah it seems really sneaky, they'll call from one number and I tell them to stop, and that area code will stop and they'll start calling from another one.  Getting around the system as usual.  Maybe if our economy wasn't so sucky right now I'd have the cash to pay the dumb thing off.

They call everyday and I tell them the same thing, I AM UNEMPLOYED! Even if I landed a job right now, I wouldn't get my check tomorrow, so why call everyday hour on the hour. It makes no sense.  Yes, it's Washington Mutual.

If you have some cash on hand they are taking 1/2 of money
