Automated - says it's regarding the activation of my Old Navy Credit Card - I DON'T HAVE an Old Navy Card!
| rob 2011-06-06 21:00:24 Unknown |
Purportedly Banana Republic to tell me to activate a credit card they sent. I don't recall receiving one recently, but I'll double-check. The recorded message refers to another number (866) 460-4458.

Beware!

A robocall to activate some piece of crap credit card I never applied to receive. It is obviously a scam and the operator should be shut down.

Got a call from this number tonight... same thing, wanted me to verify my new Banana Republic Visa card (that I didn't apply for) but I listened to the whole message and there was two numbers given... 866-450-4458 to activate a card, and 866-450-2330 to report if you did not request a new card.
I did some research and 866-450-2330 is a valid GE Money USA Credit Card customer service number for Banana Republic VISA cards, I called it and report the call and they too asked for my SSN but I wouldn't give it to them and they looked up by phone number I recieved the call on, the name did not match so they logged a Do Not Call on my number.

Got an automated call from this number today asking me to activate my Banana Republic Visa Card. I've never applied for a card with Banana Republic, ever. I also sent an inquiry email to Banana Republic's customer service department, to an address I found on the company's website. The whole call smells of fraud and identity theft, especially now that we're headed into the peak holiday season. I think I'll also lodge a complaint with the FTC and BBB, at the very least, either of them can find out who the owner of the 847# is.

Yea, I also applied for a GAP card and got a call a couple of days after receiving and not activating it. I think it is a legit number, but if you haven't applied for a card you may be in trouble already anyway :P
They also would verify the last 4 of your social, dob and full name if you activate a card, they have to verify somehow that you are actually the right person calling.

I got a call from this number tonight. The machine picked up, and the message left was to call back the 866 number to activate a Walmart Discover card. I called to make sure there was not a card recently opened in my name and when I said this to the lady, she only asked for my phone number and name. I told her the phone number, and my name and she asked what my spouses name was. I told her and she said the card was opened in his name. However, my husband never opened an account with walmart. So - I told her this and she said something about doing a three way conference call - I told her I would talk to my husband. After reading these posts I am thinking it was a scam. I know not to give any other information, so I won't even call them back. I hate scammers!!!

Just received a call from this number and I immediatly looked it up here. I called it back and it was an automated message saying I needed to activate my GE card. What's that suppose to be?!? Then the message apologized if they had called me in error!?! I think it's a scam number...I mean shouldn't they know who they are calling before hand?!

got a call this evening from that number. Odd thing is, I did recently apply for a banana republic card and just got it in the mail a couple of days ago. The activation phone number that was included with the card is 866-450-4458. So, I'm pretty convinced that it's a legit number, though if you haven't applied for a banana republic/gap card, it looks like someone may have already stolen your identity - worth looking into

Sorry to spam; in doing a little research I found this number: 866-450-4458 seems to be the call-back number they give for you to call in so you can provide them with everything they need to steal your identity. (Sorry for the double post).

Got a call from this number today with an automated message claiming to be for the activation of "my new Bananna Republic VISA card!"; which I of course never applied to. All I'd have to do is call this lovely 866 number to activate it. Since it smacked of a scam; I hung up and did not call the number (I've gotten e-mails from rich African princes that sounded more legit that this did).
However, in looking this up, I've read other people's accounts of these scammers calling 4-5 times a day until you call them back. I don't know what options are open to combat this kind of harassment, but hopefully I can think of some.
