simply set your default ringtone to silence, there are silent ringtones available, or make one yourself,
then assign all contacts a real ringtone
therefore, if they're not on your list, your phone doesnt ring

Today I received a "35.00" check from the disbursement account of Portfolio Recovery Services - my guess is they expected me to deposit this to collect my bank account information and pay back on a debt from 15 years ago~~~ - um - some people are smarter than you ... PRS!!

My mother-in-law has been getting calls from 786-228-5557 about someone owing them money, she just ignores them and hangs up.  She never gets any bills from this company.

HANGUP FROM PORTFOLIO RECOVERY. I HAVE KEPT A LIST OF ABOUT 15 DIFFERENT #s THAT THIS MONEY CHASER CALLS WITH. THEY ARE FROM DIFFERENT STATES ALSO. MY DAUGHTER ANSWERED ONE DAY AND THEY ASKED A LOT OF QUESTIONS. WRONG NAME, ADDRESS, SS#. SHE SAID SHE DIDN'T KNOW THAT PERSON & THEY CALLED HER A LIAR! THE CALLS NEVER END!

Porfolio Recovery's Associates Chief Executive Officer Steven D. Fredrickson should be prosecuted by the US Attorney for all his Federal Law violations, put in Federal Prison and the government should then stack the  fines and penalties to take all his and his company assets.  He and his company policies are no different than someone who molesters innocent children.

I don't have any debts and I have to be constantly molestered by calls from him where his company policy is such that they never say who they are, who they are looking for, who or what they want, etc.

Send a creftified return receipt letter to 3 bureaus requesting debt validation. I did this and alot was removed because the collectors simply cannot comply with the 30 days they have to respond. After that they have to remove itf rom your report.

You may want to call the AG office again. They may be able to call you but you are under no obligation to pay.

If you have an Android phone, I have been using an app named Call Control. It's $6.99 for the "Pro" version an works excellently for blocking calls. Also, they already have a ton of numbers built in, so if any of those numbers call you they are automatically blocked. There is a "community" that enters any numbers THEY get, so the numbers are then added to the blocking list.

Someone more adept than myself at such things needs to create an iphone / android app that updates this number list and immediately sends calls to the "doo -dee-doo" sound followed by "this number is no longer in service" voice mail.

Any savvy hackers out there?

hey if this portfolio recovery is harrassing you with annoying calls there is an attorney that will sue them and have your debt cleared and you will receive 1000 dollars for harrassment get on it all i can tell you is he is listed in the computer

I do not have a home phone and have a droid X that is my main phone number.  I use an app called Mr. Number and it blocks private and numbers that I tell it to.  Most of the times it does not even ring, it automatically sends them to my voice mail.

It's weird because they are hounding me for a bill that I never had! How do they have my name attached to a bogus bill? They say they are collecting a debt from 1997 on an MCI bill. I never in my life had a bill or service for that matter with MCI! I keep telling them that, but they insist I do. Not sure how to disassociate myself with this!

I looked up their website because they call me on my cell phone at least 8 to 10 times a day from all different parts of the country. Right on their website it says that if you send a cease and desist letter, by law they can't call you anymore. I have one I'm sending to them because first of all, I'm sick of the constant calls all day long, and second of all I'm not using my minutes to talk to some chucklehead that is trying to collect on a debt that is more than 20 years old that I'm pretty sure I paid! Anyway, if you go on their website and go under "Contact Us" there is an address.  As for the people who are talking about adding them to the no call list, I was under the impression the no call list is only for telemarketing and this is a debt collection so the no call list doesn't cover them, but a cease and desist letter will.

I paid my debt, actually not mine, to this CA, 6 years ago, but they still harass me 24/7...They're like roaches.. Can't get rid of them.

Looks like they can't hide who they are anymore.  This number and another called today (I never answer if I don't know who's calling), and it said that they were calling for the first time in a good while.

These people are ruining my life, and I don't owe anyone any past debt.  They've been calling me for about 2 years saying I had a Citibank card debt.

Now what's worse, is even though they haven't reported it to any credit bureau's they have recently run a "Hard Credit Request" from Experian which has lowered my score. (Not alot mind you, but I keep an eye on it all the time).

I filed a dispute and Experian said they are a legitimate credit agency, and claim to have a legitimate debt for me(how I don't know, when they can't even give me any account number)..and said they can't do anything.  That it will fall off in 2 years.  By then, maybe they will run one every few months now, thus eventually destroying my credit score.  

This is so stressfull.........

You do NOT need extra software or apps on an android phone to block these harrassing calls. Just add them as a contact, and check the box that says Send to Voicemail.
Done and done as they will never leave a voicemail.
Phone doesn't even ring. Its great.

They are trying to get me on a debt over 8 years old. They even had the gall to tell me I made a payment 5 years ago. Uhhh, no.... Nice try though!

All you have to do is answer and when they ask for a name you say "who?"....act as though you don't know who they are calling for.  It helps when a person of the opposite gender answers.  They have been harrassing my husband for years.  I finally picked up the home phone, said "Who?" and she asked if I knew him, I said "No" and voila!  No more calls!  He did the same thing with his cell phone.

Good luck everyone but Steve need braces for his kids.  It's a shame they took the pictures down of their staff.  Some of Steve's VP are just absloute MILFS.  Yummy.  Oddly enough their job is to shake down people for money that is only owed to them because they went out and bought a debt.  they call peple over and over harrassing them at every turn making idle threats and making the people they are chasing lives a living hell but turn around and voluteer to the United Way out there to make peoples lives better?  
I bet when they signed up for the United Way they didn't tell them they were really scumbags who makes peoples lives misserable for their own profit.  

BTW....PRAA (Yeah they got a stock symbol) Will send letters out all the time saying you owe money and they wil cut you a deal.  If it's not a registered letter with proof of delivery, ignore it.  If it goes to court,  just say you never got the letters and PRAA can't prove it, just like the debt they say you owe.
I've gone to court once with their lackie 3rd party lawyer they hired and won and yet they are comming after me again.  I say bring it on,  I prefer a straight up court battle where the burden of proof is on the person filing the complaint not the defendant.
I wish PRAA good luck and wish Steve would share his hot wife with me.  She's tasty.

How do they expect to get you to pay your collection fees if they DONT ANSWER their calls!!!!!  This is ridiculous!

I've been getting calls from them too.  I told them not to call so the little game they are playing is we are going to start calling from numbers from different states.  I've recieved calls from Ohio, NC, SC, Fl, NY, NJ, CO, PA, On and on.  I don't think they'll stop till I change my number.

tell them to stop!!!  I got a call twice in one day from two different numbers.... This is ridiculous.  It charges my phone each time they call and also the TEXTING cost me when they send a text and when I have to reply STOP it charges me again!  This is not fair!
