849-963-4865
Dominican Republic, Dominican Republic

Call from this # (D Republic Call) to home # 2-22-13 9:13 a.m. Didn't answer - no message. Search of another site says: "Spoofed Numbers: Caution, 849-963-4865 is a "spoofed" number, which means that whoever called you "tricked" your caller ID to display an incorrect phone number. Telemarketers do this so you cannot complain, but they failed... you can still file a complaint here to fight back against unethical telemarketers."

Caller ID showed "name not found." Ha. I thought the DNC list was going to take care of these interruptions.

I have gotten about five phone calls from this number over the last three weeks. The last two came on February 12 and 21. Dead air when picked up and no answer other times on the answering machines (i.e. they hang up after the third ring).

I don't pick up unless it is someone I know. These calls are annoying.

There is a way Kathryn. some of the Call blockers on the market will allow you to block indivually or complete area codes. I have a Digitone and block several area codes and prefixes. No calls come through from Jamaica or Dominican Republic. In fact, I have universal blocking and only allow calls within my own area code with some of those individually blocked and a couple of toll free prefixes. Our phone rarely rings now and when It does it is from friends, family or certain allowed others. Not everyone can have the luxury of universal blocking due to their own circumstances, but for me I figure if it is important enough they can send me a letter via Granny usps mail.

Aside from conflating "unregisted individuals" and your junk phone calls, you are assuming that the number on your caller ID is actually indicative of where the caller is calling from. We all know that caller ID numbers can be spoofed for fun and profit to appear as any number a spammer find advantageous. Furthermore, area codes and other dialing codes have been divorced from their areas (and even their countries) for a long time. See, for example, "Area Codes, Now Divorced from their Areas," by Ian Urbina, The New York Times, October 1, 2004, http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/01/nyregion/01code.html?_r=0
last accessed Feb. 27, 2013.

Just to let people know all numbers from area code 849 which is in the Dominican Republic are from telemarketers. I wish there was a way to block anything from this area code rather than each specific number. I get calls from these area codes about medicare, about home security, about a variety of 'services' they want to sell. We are also on the No Call List and we try the 'to remove yourself from this list' options to no avail. Next time anyone from this area code calls I'm going to go to the person 'selling' on the phone and when they answer just blow a whistle into the phone as long and as loud as I can. Maybe that will stop the harassment.

It might be listed to "The Association Of Dominican Scammers".

DON'T call this number back!!! When you dial this number, it may look like a standard U.S. or Canadian number to you, but you are calling an area code assigned to the Dominican Republic. They don't pay any attention to "do not call" lists from this country and a lot of their numbers are pay-per-call lines like the old 900 number sex lines. They can charge you exorbitant rates per minute to dial into these lines, and they don't have to -- and won't -- tell you that's the case until you get your next phone bill.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

The caller told me I was about to loose
my Medical Insurance. It was against
the law, not to report my Diabetic condition.
I was about to loose forever any coverage.
Cooperate now. Order and give a bank
account number.
I hung up.

How can we stop this number 8499634865. They call at least once a day.
| Stringtown 2013-02-22 21:50:28 Unknown |
I get these calls at least twice a day never call back. Only rings 3 times and hangs up. Is there a way to block this number?

02-22-2013 @ 10:16 AM = 849-963-4865, NAME NOT FOUND; When I got home, checked phone and saw where this number had called at time indicated. Wife said she didn't pick it up. When I checked the answering machine, found it was turned off for some reason, so they couldn't have left a message if they wanted to. Search on the internet revealed that AC 849 is in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic. I've received 3-4 calls from this same area (849-963-4853) which were robocalls with a heavily accented woman talkinig about medicare/medicaid supplies, etc. Suspect calls from same company with the phone numbers so close together. Nothing but scammers trying to sell you something you don't want. That, or, as others on this blog have said, they're trying to get you to call back so you can be billed astronomical phone charges. Best thing to do is ignore them. I'd like to stick a double barrel shotgun up their butt's and pull both triggers!!

They woke me up this morning - so I didn't need my alarm clock. I knew they were scammers so I didn't answer.

THIS CALL CAME THROUGH @ 2:20 PM. I PICKED UP THE PHONE, PUT THE CALL ON "SPEAKER" -- I DID NOT SPEAK, SILENCE. THEN HUNG UP. I HAVE A PANASONIC CORDLESS PHONE WHICH HAS THE CAPABILTY OF ***BLOCKING*** THIS NUMBER. SO, IF THEY CALL AGAIN - MY PHONE WILL RING 1X ONLY, AND THEY ARE BLOCKED!!! THIS PHONE IS A GOD-SEND :)

Pressed "1" as instructed and got a salesman, I told it very emphatically to remove my *@#*!^$# number, and what I think about his company calls, plus that I was on the so-called useless "no call list". Hung up on me. Jerk. Calls to this number only gets a busy signal. A similar type call, from205 440 1003, only gets a "no longer in service" recording. Probably won't do any good, but why not go to your congressmen's web site and email the numbers and complaint to them? Of course, they may be too busy spending our money to help. Maybe if they got a few hundred such emails they would do something. I mean have one of their "aides" do something.

Digitone.com is a good call blocker, however, it will only block up to 100 numbers. The Pro Call Blocker (Google it), can block up to 1500 numbers and about half the price of the Digitone One. I have both and they work very well.

Rang 3 times and hung up. Registered to block unwanted numbers so why are they calling?
| CjA 2013-02-22 17:16:32 Unknown |
Rang 3 times then hung up. Got number from the Caller ID and looked up area code - Dominican Republic. The DNC list is a joke - with all the junk calls we get, we need a phone that will block more than 30 numbers.

I've had a Digitone Call Blocker for over 5 months and I love it! The calls keep rolling in, I push the BLOCK Button twice, call is blocked the next time they call.....A great product!
