four calls from this number in the last two days, (three of them this afternoon).  No messages were left, I hope not answering will discourage them.

CRIMINAL HEALTHCARE TELESCAM CONS.  Part of a flood of calls, of Healthcare TeleScamming cons, starting out of nowhere, targetting seniors.  

This number has been calling me at least 5 times a day everyday. They leave a message in an Indian accent with static that I can't understand. Something about a lawyer or medical stuff.

What options does one have to defend themselves against intrusive callers?

? The Do Not Call list (Federal or State)
Works, but is effective against ONLY "legitimate" telemarketers.  Political callers, surveys and some other callers are exempt.  Scammers ignore the DNC list.

? NoMoRobo
A system offered by some telephone providers, to help automatically block robocalls.  Google "nomorobo" to see if it works with your phone provider.

? Shouting, screaming, swearing at the caller
Nope.  Does not stop calls.  May make you hoarse, and will disturb nearby people.

? Call blocker app, device or service
Could be a good choice (even though the scammers can use fake phone numbers), and some apps are free!

If you cannot use any of the above defenses, then:
? Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service
? Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers!  All that does is verify your phone number!  And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.
? If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scammers" (or similar).  Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.

I want them to STOP CALLING! Called 10 times in a row! No one ever answered!

This company has been calling me all day, last call  was about 2 minutes ago. I hear non English in the background and said Hey do you speak English, a guy with a thick accent  asked for a person and quite honestly I could not understand what he said just know it was not me. So, I get saying what do you want over and over. He's response, and I quote " Go to Hell" My response was hey go there first and it's  good you can come back and call me.  The guy hung up.

Just got a call from this number but I was in the middle of using my phone to take a pic.  I sent them to my voicemail, which is full, so they couldn't leave a message. :P

I received a phone call from this number, but did not pick up since I did not recognize the area code.  I am also on the do not call list.  Where are these folks getting our numbers?  Very irritating.

I received a call from this number and a male with a very strong accent said he was calling from a medical compensation company and wanted to know what surgery I had and something about me hiring an attorney. I have had to hire an attorney due to a surgery. How do they know this information?

The call from 850-364-0641 ... When I answered the ring it took several seconds for someone to come on the line.  I told the person who asked for me by my first name that I did not ask him to call nor did I want him to call my home again.  I hung up.  He immediately called back and demanded that I not hang up on him again.  I listened to his inane spiel about calling people at random concerning their medical benefits.  I interrupted and told him again that I wanted my number removed from their call list and hung up again.  I received several more calls which I answered and immediately hung up on him.  This is definitely harrassment since he was asked from the first call to remove me from their call list and to stop calling me.

This person hung up when I answered the call.  This is a robot call to a number on the do not call registry.

This number, 1-850-364-0641 called me. The number comes in with no company or other ID listed, just the number. When I answered, no one bothered to respond for a least 6 full seconds. Beyond rude. When someone finally bothered, I asked who it was. The person did not identify themselves or the alleged company but asked if they could speak to "Mr." or "Mrs." (insert my last name). I answered, "You may not," and hung up. He called back within one minute. I said not to call the number anymore. He continued on the line, speaking in a very heavy accent, asking who I was (I didn't answer) and babbling something. He did not give a company name. I told him not to call my number ever again and that I was going to report him. I hung up. I then received FOUR MORE CALLS, one after other, from this same number. I did not answer them. It would ring, stop, and they would call again. (All calls were from this number). Very distressing. Very annoying. Very harrassing.

No legitimate company would do this. Also, I am on the "Do Not Call" registry.
