Some guy (Jay Dawson) called from the FTC to say that I had 3 allegations against me and I needed to settle this by giving him $685 to settle out of court.  I gave him a fake debit card number. :-)  SCAMMER

Just got a call from this # AT WORK - had my address, last 4 of my social, email and obviously my work number (just changed my home # recently).  Said I fraudulently took a payday loan out for $3,000 in Jan of this year and they are offering to take care of it before filing charges.  Oh, did I mention he was an agent of the FTC and barely spoke English?  This just happened to a friend of mine but they threatened to send the cops to her work if she didn't pay over the phone.  I told them to send the court papers to my house since they have my address.  Like I don't have enough problems, I have to deal with scammers!

Everyone's experiences with Officer Jake Dawson sounds all to familiar.  Just dealt with this guy today.  Guess what?  The FTC does not perform consumer debt collections nor would they arrest you for a debt.

SCAM< SCAM< SCAM-I have gotten at least 20 calls from 850.910.8076 from a Mr. James Nelson (heavy Indian accent) saying he was from the Federal Trade Commission/Federal Credit Commission. He stated that there have been numerous complaints against my SS # and bank account neither of which he could give me when questioned. I haven?t had a checking account/bank account in 5+ years. He continued stating that I had written several fraudulent checks and that I was under investigation and that he was sending "Agents" to my place of employment(asked me to verify the address) to arrest me for my pending debt and that I would be immediately sentenced to 5 months in jail. I began to laugh and explained that I would be waiting for his "Agents" as you can not be jailed for consumer debt. He called me a hard headed ignorant b*tch (I think that's what he said lol) and told me that if I did not pay him $700 by the end of the day I would be in jail by tomorrow morning. To prove my point that I knew this was a scam I asked if he would accept an ATC debit in the amount of $700 from my checking account and he exclaimed YES. I started hysterically laughing and told him I thought that's why this call was originated as there were "CHECKS" being written fraudulently on my checking account associated with my SS#. He was speechless after a brief pause said "You think this is a game I wish you luck if you choose not to pay. Needless to say I am still waiting on his "AGENTS" and my jail sentence he was able to impose on me at the time of our conversation. Ridiculous how far these people will go in attempts to steal people?s money. I am amazed that some people fall for this non-sense. My advice is to Google the number of the ?COMPANY? trying to collect as well as the laws pertaining to your state of residence regarding debt repayment/collection practices. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!

FCC is a licensing agency and directed me to FTC. "Officer Jake Dawson from the Federal Trade Commission" threatened and used vile language to intimidate me about 3 loans I committed fraud on (none of which I have ever taken out) and stated police were on their way to arrest me. I called the FTC, they tried to pawn me off on consumer trade, but they directed me to FTC because no actual loans were ever taken out and she took report. Did not want my evidence of voicemail misrepresenting themselves and honestly could of care less...so we shall see what happens.

This same Number called me and I couldn't understand the voicemail but what I did get is that they called from the lawyers office about money on loans and told me to call back, I did and it was busy.   Last Friday I got a call from many different calls from a lot of different numbers 20+.  A girl from my work and I work on a pt floor in a hospital, called me and told me an Officer John Walker with the Federal Trade Commission wanted to talk to me, she wanted her to give him my phone number, and then wanted her to relay the message to me.  She did say that they guy did not sound like an American it sounded like he was from India.   So I called the phone number 850-910-8076 and a guy who had an India accent answered and wanted the number that was called and then transferred me back to the John Walker who was not American.  This guy gave me is last 4 of my social security number, and told me I had a complaint against me on my "social security number", and then the phone dropped.  I got on my computer and looked up the number on google and you should of seen how many people who almost got scammed like me.   After the phone call dropped he called my work 4 more times and me about 6 on my cell phone.  And the last one I was actually talking to the FBI, and had them on speaker and put him on speaker.  And the agent said this is the FBI and I suggest that you stop calling this number.    Well they have not called my work or my cell phone again, but then I get this phone number calling me.   When do they stop.....   Next time I am going to answer the phone and tell them that FBI is tracking this number.  So be carefull these people are trying everything they can to get people social security number   And I was also told by the FBI that the number is from Florida and the Federal Trade Commision (which I also contacted and reported it) is in Washington DC.

Office Jake Dawson called me. I know this is a scam. He said I took out a loan back in June and that I need to start paying it back and gave me a crazy amount of how much I have to pay. He said this case could go to court. I know this is fake, I never took out a loan, I told him I thought it was scam and he hasn't been bothering me.

A supervisor at my place of employment received a call from an Officer Barney Ross saying that an employee needs to immediately call him back at this number.  He was difficult to understand - it sounded like he said he was from the Bureau of Family Investigation.  He said he would create a scene at our place of employment if we didn't immediately call him back.  The employee in question indicated he had been scammed by this number in the past.

I also got this call from a "John Walker" with an accent, and NOT an American one, from 805-910-8076. I did apply for a payday loan a month ago online, which I will never do again because I was redirected to many websites, apparently to give my number out to many "loan companies". If I had only known what I know now. I got so many calls from MANY different numbers that lasted about a month. At first I got calls every 5 minutes, all day, from 8am til 8pm. I never answered any of the calls, but after awhile they started leaving voicemails. I never called any of them back and now today I got the same call as the rest of you, that I need an attorney and that "John Walker"  was calling from the Federal Trade Commission regarding a problem with my social security number and payday loans. "JW" said I would be arrested if I did not call back. I went to my cell phone carrier's website and had the number blocked. Wish me luck and good luck to all of you who got this call. I just hope no one falls for this ridiculous scam.

Exactly!!!!!!!!! Like seriously, what government agency answers the phone directly and then 'transfers' your call to another person who is actually the same person? Sounds like this guy was calling me from an elevator. By the way, his name was John walker as well.

I actually received a call like this on October 18, 2013 from a man with an Indian accent who claimed his name was "John Walker" and he was posing as an Officer for the Federal Trade Commission. I first asked him where he was located. He told me that he was on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C. (go figure). I then asked the man how is it possible that he was calling me from D.C. when his phone number came up with a Florida area code (crickets, crickets.....). He proceeded to threaten me with going to jail for unpaid payday loans that totaled up to $15K, which is not true because I have no payday loans because payday loans are illegal in Atlanta, which is where I live. I told him that someone tried to write a $89.00 check from my student account which I don't even have checks for that account and I asked if he was the mastermind behind the $29.00 overdraft fees that my bank charged me because of some scam? I also told him that my credit sucks to begin with so whoever has 'stolen' my identity should share how they were able to get a loan because I could use one. This made him even more angry, so he continued to threaten me with a jail sentence of 5 months, which led me to question his "Indian accent" that clashes with his "American name." He then became furious and told me that I should expect the police to arrive at my house in 30 minutes to take me to jail. I LMAO'ed loudly in his ear and said, "let me get this straight, you are giving me a jail sentence over the phone without even going before a judge, and on top of that, you want to arrest me without a warrant and you are telling me that the police will be at home in 30 minutes with an arrest warrant to throw me in jail for 5 months....." #crickets!!!!! I told him that I will call the police on him and have him arrested for posing as a federal officer. LOL!!!!! I never even allowed him to explain to me why he was even calling. My husband tells me I should have let him finish talking to get more details, but why even entertain foolishness such as this? Don't be a sucker and fall for anything like this in America. We Americans know and understand the law very well. No one in American history has been arrested over the phone, no one has been sentenced to jail without going before a judge, and if the police want to find us, they know exactly where to find us and they don't give you a time frame as to when they will arrive at your house to arrest you....#smh!!! Note to scammers: get educated on the American government before you try to pose as such!!!!!!!!

Not only did this guy call me at home using the name Officer John Walker, Badge number 954CRM9, he called my place of employment and hung up when the receptionist put him on hold. He couldn't tell me what the FTC was (I am a History teacher so I asked) and then he spoke to me telling me the same thing about a payday loan which I do not have. Then he had the nerve to tell me not to interrupt him while he was talking and I proceeded to tell him I was on this site reading about his scam...surprise, surprise. And everyone who answers the phone at this number or leaves me messages has an Indian accent. Not trying to be nonPC but is everyone at the FTC of Indian descent? P.S. NO government agency answers the phone directly when you call.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.
