Not sure what they wanted. "Indian" guys with names like Gary Wilson. Something about how "pnf" files could slow my computer.

Spoofed caller ID. Call back leads to "number is invalid".

got a call from "Health Tach 24-7". same story as others...said my PC was generating errors and they were calling to fix the problem. I called him out and said he was a fraud, so he connected me to his supervisor...basically handed the phone to the guy next to him who claimed to be a supervisor. total crap....

"Steve" called me from Speedy PC, a subdivision of Microsoft. He asks 'Am I the main user of the Microsoft software'? I said 'I have an unlisted number and wish you'd lose it again. But before you do, Mr. Microsoft, please tell your boss to quit effing things up and bring XP back' and hung up.

Boy this guy is dumb. Doesn't know his left click from his right click. As Help Desk people go he was useless. Each time I knocked him off script he was confused. "Which computer is it?" I asked since I was sitting in front of three at the time. "Any one of them." he replied.
I picked the zombie system behind me. At no point did he ask if it was a WIN 7 or WIN XP system. His goal was to get access the "System Event Viewer". This is where Windows keeps a running log of everything it does. Normally Errors and Warnings are accumulated throughout the life of a computer. Most are corrected and the computer goes on with its business. He (and I) were surprised that there was only one error. Well, I did reload the OS about three days ago.
His explanation was that the computer had been downloading dangerous junk files at this time. It wasn't. Someone had tripped over the network cable and pulled it out. Problem fixed - life goes on. During the conversation I dropped MULTIPLE hints that I knew what I was doing. ("reloading operating system", "virus scanning another computer", "wiping a drive", "do you have the IP address or serial number of the effected computer?")
"Are you an IT person?" he finally asked.
"Yes. Can you help me with a boot-sector virus that has infected the laptop?" (This is true and it is a nasty one - Alureon.)
There was a long awkward silence, then he hung up. I managed to milk him for 11 minutes and 34 seconds! Let's go for some records folks!

He wanted to help me locate the problems and install some software to fix the issues. He asked me is that ok. I just received a call. Told me he is calling about the computer I am using now. I knew he was a fraud, so I was playing around. He thought he got me but he didn't know I was recording him. At a point I told him to f*** off and he hanged up quickly

The man on the phone indicated that he was from the IT department of Health Tech. He claimed that there were downloads going to my computer that could impact my Microsoft programs. I advised that he does not work for my company and then he quickly disconnected.
