First off, let me say that this company is now called (or also called) American Law Group. I will include their current information at the bottom for reference. Now for the good stuff. Because this "law firm" is operating in California it is subject to the California Rules of Professional Conduct. Feel free to look through here and see if they have violated one of these rules:

http://rules.calbar.ca.gov/Rules/RulesofProfessionalConduct.aspx

If they have then file a complaint here:

http://www.calbar.ca.gov/Attorneys/LawyerRegulation/FilingaComplaint.aspx

Here's another little cool tidbit of info. If they contact you in your state then they may be subject to the rules of professional conduct for the bar in your state as well and under most, if not all states, if you violate the rules of professional conduct in another state then you have also violated the rules in your own licensing state! So you can be subject to discipline in both states and likely will be. Nice huh? Keep in mind that any misconduct by an attorney or THE STAFF of an attorney subjects the attorney to possible discipline. They are required to manage their staff to the same standard that they are held so they are vicariously liable for their staff's actions.

Also, if you feel that this company has violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by doing things like threatening a law suit when they have not intention of suing you, you may be able to sue them and recover for example $1000 for violating certain rules.

http://www.ftc.gov/enforcement/rules/rulemaki ... ctices-act-text

A couple notes about contact with collection agencies:

1. Ask for the last payment activity on the account. You will need this for assessing whether or not the statute of limitations has run on your debt. (meaning they cant take you to court)

2. Do not admit you owe the debt whether or not you do and whether or not you plan on paying it off. If you admit to the debt and the statute of limitations has not yet run, it will start the clock over as will ANY payment of ANY amount.

3. The statute of limitations in most states is NOT 7 years. It is 6 in many states. It is as low as 3 in some and as many as 10 in a few. If the statute of limitations has run they can still ask you to pay the debt but they cant sue you anymore, however, there are exceptions to this rule. http://www.bankrate.com/finance/credit-cards/ ... ld-debts-1.aspx

4. Do not promise them any money or verify that you will pay them if the Statute of Limitations has run because they can then come after you for the amount you just promised and the time starts over again! Tricky and stupid I know.

5. Keep your calm on the phone. You have rights. Know them and be confident in them. It doesn't matter what they "think" the rule is or what they think is right. The law is the law and it is that way to protect you (mostly). You don't need to win the argument on the phone. That does you no good.

6. You are better off just talking to them by mail as it is easier to protect your rights that way so make sure to get their address. If they refuse, take note of that.

7. They may try to trick you when you assert your rights by saying something like "so you are refusing to pay then." Even when you said no such thing. Don't get mad and say "yeah Im not paying." You just gave them more ammo to use against you and it may even start the clock over in your state. Tricky muthasuckas huh!?

8. Send a request for a chain of ownership for the account along with a ledger of fees and balances as well as any other available validation for the debt. Figure out what the underlying debt is and what has been tacked on top. Remember, the original company no longer cares about this account and the current collector likely doesn't have any contact with the original creditor. Often, original creditors will even scrub their databases of old debts meaning that they don't have any of the information available to verify the debt. Most collection companies don't obtain all of that information along with the file, just the basic info and the rights to collect on it. Also, if they don't respond within a certain statutory time period, you can get the debt erased from your credit report.

9. If you plan on paying the debt, low ball them. What can it hurt. They bought the account for literally pennies on the dollar so anything they get above that is gravy for them. They aren't likely to take you to court unless you have assets worth doing it for. Also, why would they spend a few hundred dollars on filing a case that they might not be able to collect on even with a judgment. It makes no financial sense. They still may do it anyway so beware but it is far less likely then they would like you to think.

10. Don't take anything personally. That is a popular method by which to get you to pay a debt. Guilt. And if they can't get you to pay, the collectors are ok with at least making you feel bad. They are just people and they have to tell themselves that they are wearing the white hat and that you are a bad guy else they could not do their job day after day. Think about it. Not paying your debts does not you a loser make. People have all kinds of valid reasons not to pay a debt and as many invalid reasons but do not let anyone make you feel bad about your financial situation. They don't know you. They don't know what kind of a person you are so be strong in your rights and make them work for anything they get from you. Corporations have abused people for a hundred years. Don't become another statistic by getting caught up in the machine.

(855) 201-5514 is contacting every number associated with  me.  I just  called the number  to be removed  (blocked my number *67), and they informed me that it was about someone else that  I have not talked to in about 7 years. They had said that I was associated with this person. They stated they have documents ready to go  and were going to send them to my home. I told the person I was talking to that when they arrive I was going to decline the papers. Because the person they are for dose not live here.

Yes folks its a collection agency running games trying to get your hard earned money. They are misrepresenting themselves which is a violation of FDCPA laws. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself and hire an attorney. There is no such thing as debtor's prison. I did some research. The National Law Group is actually a debt collection agency St. Amant and Associates located in Temecula, Ca. I will be having them served shortly and filing a complaint with the Attorney General of Texas.

Breading??  Really??  I'm getting calls regarding my loser ex.  They are harassing me and my family members for debts my loser ex cannot pay.  I've been away from that situation for 14 years and never have been in debt or had an unpaid bill.  Watch what you say, because you don't know everyone's situations.

They keep calling me and my family members regarding my ex-husband (14 years now) and wanting to get in touch with him.  if they can track me down with a NEW name (and two different states later) and track all my family members down, why on earth can they not track him down.  I don't understand.  I'm really starting to get aggravated!  Does anyone know if there is a way to get our names off of this "call list"?

Calls to my cell from 760 270 9633-shows as Escondido CA.  Identify themselves as National Law Group and leave a callback  at 855 201 5514 with a reference to a case # and request to call back even if call is in error. If this was an actual legal firm, there would be something in the mail- sounds like a scam to me.

I have been called several times by this group. I have informed them that they have the wrong number. They are looking for an individual whom I don't know. Perhaps this person had this number prior to me but it is now my number and no matter how many times I have told this law firm to stop calling and they continue to call.
They indicate they need a file number to stop the calls and when provided they still call. One  women had the audacity to ask me to provide a number for the guy they were looking for. After telling her several times I don't know who she is referencing,  she then indicated I would be contacted until I was able to provide the information. Really, I don't know who you are taking about therefore it is difficult to give you what I don't know.

I have NO knowledge of the property they are referencing. This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!

No, these are bad debts that have already been written off by the original creditor, they've also written off the debts as business losses on their taxes. Then, they sell the bad debts for pennies on the dollars and these bottom feeders who have bought them, hound you endlessly for anything they can get.

This is a legitimate collection agency, they just go about things in a disrespectful sort of way.  Most of the debts they are trying to collect are years old and less then $100.  These callers are paid based on how many calls they make each day on each collection and make a small percentage based on the few that respond and do pay.  Unfortunately the internet allows them to track down numbers and information based on social media, etc. I worked for them for about 2 days.  That was about all I could handle.

These people called my childrens school trying to get a hold of me, at first they told the principal that I had applied for a job, then went into the q&a. Trying to find out what time my children are there, how often I volunteer, what my home address is etc.  Talk about being humiliated when I show up to drop off my kids and I get a note from the principal about this.  It is plain stupid.  The person they are trying to reach, is not even me.

Just to help anyone here searching for answers to this problem, you don't owe them a thing unless they have sent you a letter (and better yet a certified letter!) in the mail. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT send them a penny until you have physical proof (remember that letter they were supposed to send?) in your hands stating that you actually owe a debt. These people will still try to collect on debts that have already been paid in a weak attempt to garner more cash from unsuspecting persons. They will also try to collect on debts that are past their statute of limitations. If your debt is already past its statute (say about 7-10 years TOPS on most debts out there) if you pay even a single penny on it, it reopens the debt and legally they can collect on it! <--- this is their goal, to get you to pay on the debt again so they can LEGALLY begin the collection process. To do this they have to be sneaky. I have learned all of this from experience, I have successfully paid all of my debts including some that were past their statute of limitation, however I still continue to receive phone calls from scumbags like this trying to collect again on debts I have already paid in full. Don't let them intimidate you or con you out of your money, end every request from them with this statement: "If I owe a debt, I will wait for your certified letter in the mail." Don't give them anything otherwise, not even names, phone numbers or courtesy unless you're feeling generous. They have access to a lot of information about you, your family, your friends and will use that information to intimidate and embarrass you into paying them. You are welcome to tell those who ask about the phone call: "Its a horrible scam, you should look them up on the internet and you'll see for yourself."

I believe in paying back what you owe, I encourage you to do so, however you can also request 1 free credit report from the 3 credit bureaus here in the United States which gives you all the information about your debts and WHO you actually owe them too. With this information you can send payment to the actual owner's of your debt and receive proof from them that its been paid off. If you do need to send this proof to a debt collector to show them its paid off, do it by Certified Mail ONLY! don't give them any wiggle room to say you didn't show proof!

Good luck to you all and here's hoping they all perish in some awful accident! =D

National Law Group is harassing me with phone calls about a tenant I rent a house to asking me to pass on messages. I have asked them to quit calling me and they refuse my request and say they cannot. Ted Knight from NLG (if that's his real name) says to Ref: "case # 2400633". I believe they are contacting me unlawfully and are playing very dirty. They know where my tenant lives and it is their responsibility to contact their person of interest and not intimidate or pressure me into doing their work for them.
I reported them to the Ca Attorney General.
