Debt Collector
Got phone call with No Caller ID. Left threatening message to serve summons to a person with my same first name. If I had questions to call back Arbitration Dept. At 855-219-4669. Person stumbled over message like they were reading it from a card. I'm pretty sure it is illegal to leave such a threatening message on the wrong persons phone message! This reaks of scam or illegal debt collector!

I received this exact same message. Word for word. However, I heard the name as Matthew Cline. This is utter bulls**t. One, I don't have any outstanding debts that I'm not paying off. Two, they have not tried to contact me a first time. Three, the message was so generic and obviously a ploy to get me to call and confirm my identity and give out other information to the caller.

You'll have to act on your own.  This is just a forum.  A call blocker is your best bet.

Report them to local police and local attorney general

See: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors

They call again, tell 'em that (1) you've reported them and (2) they can go to hell!  Say it very loudly.  Then hang up.

so I get a call on tuesday while with my mother having lunch saying they contacted me in February about outstanding debt and was following up since I have never got back to them educated requested proof of debt never received he then apologized and asked if i had email to receive information said sure gave him my email address and he said please hold while he puts a stay on account to avoid further collections till after I review then this man gets on the phone and starts threatening me and calling me a deadbeat I told him you do what you want this debt is supposedly from 2007 and this is 2014 you are grasping at straws before your status of limitations run out to collect if this is valid you would have had no problem providing information but if it is you won't give it to me because i have to review and will be outside your statue of limiations

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Received a call from a gentlemen by the name of Evan Perry.  Says he has a summons in my name and if they serve it at my work I will need a security officer or supervisor to witness it.  Summons are served - you don't get advance warning!  The local police department has issued a warning about these types of calls

Today I received the exact same message word for word that you just posted you received.  I called back the number.  Voicemail says his name is Mathew Cryer (sp) from DSI or VSI & Associates.  I didn't give my name but left a number and said I thought this was a phishing expedition or a scam.  It is unnerving for sure.

I only was able to hear 1/2 of the message but it was a recorded message indicating something fraudulent with my social security number and going to court.   I don't think I'll call that number back as automated recorded messages are never important.  Blocking that number...

These people are trying to collect money for a debt I do not owe.  Scary part is they know my personal information, they know my kids names.  This is in my opinion identity theft and something needs to be done about it.

I have filed a complaint with the Los Angeles District Attorney, Better Business Bureau and the FTC.

Received a voicemail from a Matthew Krine (sp?) stating same as author above.  Some baloney about this being his second attempt to contact me regarding an affidavit of complaint against me and if I didn't respond paperwork would be forwarded to my local jurisdiction.  He said to call his office back at 855-219-4669.  I'm not calling.

Received a call with a recorded message from 855-219-4669.  It appears the info is the same as everyone else has said... They're going to sue me but they do not say what for or why. Nor do they mention my name... Strange, huh? How did they know they even reached the correct person??  Amazing, since I don't have any bills at all, other than utilities. LOL!!  What's sad is how many people will actually get upset and will respond to their call.

People who work for companies like this are very sad creatures.... They have my pity... LOL!!

Recieved a voicemail. Said his name was Matthew kline. Called about an Affidavit of complaint regarding my name & Ssn. Stated that the Failure to respond would lead to the forwarding of my documentation to local jurisdiction which would result in service of summons. Didn't say who he was calling on behalf of or in regards to. I guess it's a scam.

Left a voicemail stating a legal matter. Did not say who they were calling for.

Statute of limitations is 3 years in NC. These guys are debt buyers and purchased your original debt for pennies on the dollar. If you pay so much as 0.01 cents you reset the statue of limitations in NC. Be careful people.

I will admit that I did have a debt but I don't feel inclined to pay their agency. I had a SAMs club account in 05 and stopped paying on it in 07. In KY stats is 10 years but I never received paperwork stating I owed. (Granted I did) but the hell with that. I didn't appreciate the threat.

I got the same call from the same number and Matthew Kline. In the message left he threatens with the service of papers but fails to say who exactly he is threatening and does not give the required "this is a call fro a debt collector" notification.  Hmmm think it's done that way say they can say the message was not for the person and therefore you can't fine us under the Fair Debt Collection Act??  Also, maybe Forum_King is Matthew Kline.  It would fit the MO.
