It's Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas about my new insurance plan/deductible/cost effective usage, possible up-selling.(No Thanks).  Additionally gathering info about past illnesses, time missed from work, prescriptions, chronic illnesses, operations, planned operations, height & weight, race/ethnicity. They wanted permission to access my medical info stored in various insurance databases supposedly only for the past 2 years. NO thanks even though it's revocable in writing.

It is RSA Medical, who provide underwriting services to BC/BS TX as explained by Michelle in a prior post.  I called them back just so they would take me off the call list.  Took less than a minute.  Told them I already understood the plan and that we had the same plan before -- just switched to the ACA Exchange version of the plan.  They said that was all the info they needed, thanked me, wished me a nice evening and hung up.  (I assume that since we had our insurance though BCBS before, they have all the medical info they want on file already.)

Got a call and an e-mail from these same people. Didn't pick up the call, but the e-mail basically said I MUST call them so that they can explain my benefits to me. I know how to read, so I looked over the benefits when I signed up. Waste of time. BCBS needs to ditch 'em.

Call is from RSA Medical - working on behalf of Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance - to get your new Medical plan started!
They give you a Reference Number so they can pull up your file when confirming your new Healthcare coverage.
I guess this would be classified as an Informational Call...

I called BlueCross BlueShield directly to ask why these people were called so frequently. They told me they are contracted by BCBS to ask the questions in order to help BCBS predict how much you will cost them. BCBS said you are not required to answer any of their questions. You are not required to select a PCP if you have a PPO. You will receive your card and your plan will begin without talking to these people. I have not answered one of their calls. I have my card. I have all the paperwork that states my new plan will kick in April 1st.

It's a number from a third party underwriter attached to blue cross blue shield of Texas. I called out of curiosity, but when she started asking me info I told her I would deal directly with my insurance company, who, btw already sent me my insurance ID cards, etc.

Absolutely correct, and thank you for posting.  I believe they are attempting to do some risk analysis, as the insurance company has no idea of the past medical history of those who signed up through the Exchange.  By the way, if those reading this are one of the many who waited for an hour plus to get information from BCBS  after enrolling, its payback time.....Simply don't respond.

It is RSA Medical calling on behalf of BCBS insurance. RSA has contracts with other insurance providers. They gave a summary of my medical plan. Then started asking personal medical questions. When I asked then who they really are they said RSA. After that, they also said answering the questions were optional.

The company is actually RSA Medical (grim reviews online), who has a contract with BlueCross BlueShield. Their business is underwriting. That is pretty much a thing of the past with the new Affordable Healthcare Act. I returned their call out of curiosity. They start by basically telling you a summary of your benefits. If you understand the summary given by BCBS, this is a waste of your time. Then, they go into asking personal health questions. I did not answer these. YOU do not have to answer these. They claim it's to see if there are special programs for which you qualify that will save you money. I have a hunch it's really just a ploy to get more detailed info so the insurance company can get of what you might cost them. Your benefits are defined. It doesn't matter what your health issues are. IMO, answering these is also a waste of your time. Don't let them scare you by telling you that you must choose a PCP. If your plan is a PPO, this is not true. You can choose any doctor you want each time you go. You save more by choosing in-network physicians.

This was BlueCross BlueShield of Texas calling to confirm my information and go over my policy to explain my coverage and answer any questions I may have. They also ask additional health related questions like height, weight, tobacco use, alcohol consumption, what medications you're taking and just general questions like that. It's about a ten minute phone call unless you have a lot of questions and after that you're good to go.

I recently signed up for health insurance within the new healthcare marketplace. It was Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas calling to give me information about choosing a primary health physician (PHP). The person also asked me general health questions, height, weight, tobacco use, prescription drug use etc. She reminded me that I will not start health coverage or receive a membership card until I choose a PHP. She gave me the customer service advocate number 855-834-9107 (Open Mon-Friday 8am-5pm Central Time, not sure if its the Texas only number).

They are Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.  I just got off the phone with them regarding my insurance.  While talking to them I plugged the number into the web and found this page.  If you don't want to answer, that's up to you.  They didn't do any harm to me, just verified some things for my medical insurance.

This phone # is associated with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas.  I have my insurance with them and they called me from this number to verify info on my insurance plan.  If you have applied for insurance you need to pick up this call, or call them back, in order to complete your insurance coverage and keep it in force.

They have called for two days in a row now, leaving voicemails to call them at "my earliest convenience" and gave me a reference number. Who the hell are these people? They WOKE ME UP. That's not "my earliest convenience". It's a surefire way to piss me off!

The red flag was that there is no company attached to the number, just a bunch of comments and complaints. Do not answer. Do not respond.
