They have changed their attack, now they state they are with computer services and your windows is sending error reports, so they need to fish through your computer to find a virus, right!

I just received a call from this number from a foreign-sounding Linda with "Wyndham Professionals."  She had my full name, and then before she got to the nature of the call, she tried to get me to provide my last 4 of my social security number and/or my address.  I refused to provide either, and demanded she tell me why she called.  She refused, so I hung up on her.  I have no idea if its the same scam other are reporting, but friendly reminder - no company you currently do business with would ever ask you to do that. Only scammers try to get you to provide your own information, so that they can complete their database on you.

Got a call from Darrell Hill from Merchant Services.  Call came in from (800) 345-6243.  I was given (855) 270-7283 x7003 as his number.  Was told I could fax my statement to Lisa Knight at (949) 313-0987 for her to review our account for overages charged in Oct, Nov, Dec and Jan.  Said the rates would go up April 1st by 50 points.

He said that one customer that thought he had no problem went ahead and sent a statement to Lisa and she found he'd been overcharged $700.  Darrell commiserated that people that work like "us" cannot afford to throw away $700 just like that.

Notice the techniques used.
1. An association of respectability: "Merchant Services"
2. An illusion of good intentions: Willing to give out his phone number and extension
3. Common ground: "Working folks like us"
4. Peer pressure: Another business owner did it

There are no free lunches, folks.  Never give out your information to people you do not know.  Research, research, research prospective business contacts that you did not initiate.

Deceptive marketing.  Same as everyone else, a call from generic "merchant services", which immediately sends up a red flag.  VM said to call him back at 855-270-7283.

Received a call from "Katie with Merchant Services" looking for my boss.

As with other cases, she said she wanted to speak to him about rate increases with our payment processing. She left a callback # and extension.

This is the second time in a week that she's called.

The number that was left in my Caller ID was 212-419-9441. The name reads "Laurel Ridge As"

When I Googled that #, I found out (through a forum about Jack Jones, singer?) that the number is connected to:

Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel, 59 West 44th Street, Phone: 212-419-9441

Hiya, Bob.

This is Skip Olsen.  First of all, we actually do not charge for a rate review.  Secondly, Visa and Mastercard do raise their rates twice a year - once on April and again in October (once for each...).  Although it has been the policy of some billing companies to absorb these costs as a courtesy to their clients, many have stopped this practice due to the economy.

They are required by law to notify you in writing if they do discontinue this practice.  Many times, however, they either hide the message somewhere in the monthly statement, send out the notification under the quise of junk mail (so many people throw it out without looking at it), or just blatantly do not notify merchants at all. This is what I tried to discuss with you.

A large percentage of the time the client is with our representative at the time of the viewing of their statement.  Unless you see our rep furiously scribbling proprietary information down as he/she tries to carry on a conversation, I'd say you are grossly mistaken.

While I don't mind at all that you did not return my call I do take exception to your groundless claim that Merchant Services, Inc. would steal private information.  Merchant Services, Inc. would not be listed in Inc. 5000, neither would we have received awards year after year from the Better Business Bureau.  Neither would I associate my name - let alone my efforts - to an entity made up of theives.

The fact that your claim is purely speculative and has no basis in fact whatsoever, I wonder if you have the personal integrity to withdraw your fantasy post?  I won't speculate.  After all, it would be in bad taste to bear false witness against you - having never had the privilege of speaking to you...

Skip Olsen aslo called my business. He is with MS and I did fax over my statement. I simply but black marker over my account number (not that they can do anything with the number anyway, its on every reciept we print out and give to customers).. I was able to save 30% on my processing. I am thankful for the call informing us of the increase. Obviously my current provder did'nt call to let me know or send me any warning..
THANK YOU MERCHANT SERVICES

yeah there is a website... www.merchantsvcs.com.
I currently work for this company, and we are a great company to work for.
We service the merchant not the banks.
I personally have helped merchant save over 250,000 in the 2 yrs I've been here.

I received a call from some woman identifying herself as "Jackie with Merchant Services" calling to speak to the person in charge of the Visa/Master Card account regarding a rate increase that may have recently been applied to the account.  She left the extension as 7774; however, when she was leaving the extension number, she got mixed up and didn't seem clear as to the extension number.  She then repeated it clearly as 7774.

I believe that this is a scam, possibly identity thieves trying to get credit card information.  I did not call back.

I also just received a call from this company who identified themselves as "Merchant Services".  I dialed the number they left on the message, pressed 1 then asked to speak with a supervisor or manager.  I spoke with Jeff Lewis and asked to be placed on a do not call list...hopefully this will work!

Merchant Services Inc, a primary processor:
no web site given so that we can check on them.
alessandro york asked us to call 855 270 7283 x7985, bet 7-345 to make an appt to go over our overcharges - of debits charged as credit cards. Make a 10 mon appt with isabel corona, the local district manager.
Their benefit: customer retention. But they service banks, and not us directly.
Scam or benefit?

Same message for me what crap. the phone number on our caller Id was 636-534-2807 I called it back to try to get a valid company name and it rings one time then goes silent. I then tried to call back the number they gave me to call to get the company name but it gave me a fax tone.  We wrote complaints with the attorney general, the BBB, and on several of these complain sites as well. I would love to find a way to shut these people down.

Visa and Mastercard routinely change their rates in April and October each year, so yes, they know when the rates are increasing.

These people are vermin.

Received a call today from a Joy Martini with Merchant Services.  She wanted to talk to my supervisor about an increase in the month of October.  Funny thing is, our merchant services provider has a name other than "Merchant Services" and the number calling was a local number not the toll free number it should be.  When our provider really does call us, it shows their company name on the caller ID with their proper toll-free number and they identify themselves as being from the proper company.

Anyway, she wanted my supervisor to call back on "toll free" 855-270-7283 ext 7432.  Since when is 855 a toll free number?  She wanted to know my supervisor's name too.  Really?  If they were our real provider, they'd have that in our files.

Got a message on our answering machine from Mary from Merchant Services regarding our Visa/Master Card fees/rate increases asking me to call her back at 855-270-7283 x 7992.

Thanks to all who posted ahead of me - I will not be calling her back!  Would love to call and give them a piece of my mind, but realize they would probably just start calling me daily or some junk like that.
