If you did not get a Debt Validation letter in snailmail, you were probably contacted by a scammer.
You may have been subjected to something like scam #25, as described at

Collections company. They wanted me to settle for 90% of what I owed on the spot. Did not have the money. Asked them to work a plan out. Got them to drop to 25 bucks a month. 50 bucks the first month, 25 after. They need 3 ref of phone, address and names to find u if you dissapear. They can not tell the ref about your business other then how to go about reaching u. They took my cc# and any info on outstanding bills like, water, cell phone and so on. Its kinda to document a hardship case. Don't give them your full ss# cause the line is recorded. Tell them that u would be happy to verify in other ways.

Received a call from this number (603) 285-6463. Then leaves a voice mail with a different number. 855-282-5983. Just said his name was Scott and that I should call him back?!!! Never said what's it about????? What the heck? Idk who's Scott????

Called my mother saying he was a friend trying to get in touch with me before Christmas. They haven't called yet but my mother was upset that she'd given out my personal info to someone who was lying to her. He said his name was Tony Lorenza.
